The short answer: under $7,500 a month of affiliate revenue, Rewardful's Starter at $49 costs half of Tolt's entry plan at $99; between $15,000 and $20,000, the order flips, and Tolt's Growth at $99 undercuts Rewardful's $149 tier (monthly billing, checked on 26 October 2026 on the Rewardful pricing schedule and Tolt pricing). The second line on the bill decides the rest: Tolt pays every affiliate for you for a 2% processing fee, while Rewardful hands you a payout file to pay yourself unless you switch on Managed Payouts at 3%. Choose Rewardful to keep payouts in your own hands on a small programme. Choose Tolt when tax forms and transfers to dozens of partners are the work you want gone.

Run the bill both ways:
- Plan plus payout fee, at your numbers. For example, $12,000 of affiliate revenue at a 20% commission means $2,400 owed. Rewardful Growth is $99, plus $0 if you pay from a PayPal or Wise file, or 0.03 x 2,400 = $72 with Managed Payouts (pricing). Tolt Growth is $99 plus 0.02 x 2,400 = $48 (pricing).
- The billing system you run today. Both read Stripe and Paddle; Tolt adds Chargebee and accepts anything else through webhooks or its API, per its pricing FAQ (Tolt pricing, Rewardful features).
- Hours spent paying partners now. Time last month's payout run, including tax forms. That figure is what Tolt's fee buys back; if it was twenty minutes, the fee buys little.
- The signal after month one. Commissions reversed for refunds and self-referrals, as a share of commissions earned. Both tools reverse refunded commissions; a rising share means the terms or the partners need a second look.

Monthly billing in USD, checked on 26 October 2026, from the Rewardful pricing schedule and the Tolt pricing page. Both give twelve months for the price of ten on yearly billing; Rewardful states a 0% transaction fee, and Tolt's comparison page says neither takes a share of revenue. Rewardful moves an account up in the next billing cycle once it passes a limit; Tolt says it helps you move to the next plan and tracking never stops.
What else sits in each plan
Who sends the money
Rewardful leaves the money with you by default. It calculates what each affiliate is owed and, when commissions fall due, gives you a file for PayPal or Wise mass payouts; Managed Payouts, optional on every plan, take a 3% processing fee and need an ACH-capable bank account (what is Managed Payouts). Tolt pays partners itself on every plan: you settle one invoice per payout cycle, and it sends each eligible partner money by PayPal, Wise, local bank transfer or wire for 2% (pricing FAQ).
Tax paperwork and seats
Tolt collects W-9 and W-8 forms before a partner's first payout and files 1099s on every plan, with five programmes, groups, seats and commission flows on Growth (pricing). Rewardful's Starter has one campaign and two team members; Growth opens unlimited campaigns and seats, and tax details are collected when affiliates onboard to Managed Payouts (merchant FAQ).
Fraud checks
Rewardful lists self-referral detection and a brand-bidding control on every plan (pricing schedule). Tolt's Radar holds self-referrals, duplicate IPs and paid-ad clicks for review before payday, but only from Pro at $199 (pricing). On Tolt Growth, catching those before payment is a manual check.
The fee inside the default
Tolt routes every payout through itself on every plan, so its income rises with your commission bill as well as with your tier: in the example above, $48 a month that Rewardful's default, a payout file you send yourself, does not charge. That is a fair trade if paying partners eats your Fridays, and an avoidable cost if it takes twenty minutes. Price the fee against item 3 of the list before treating Tolt's plan price as the whole cost.
An agent that approves commissions, with a gate
Tolt documents an MCP server on every plan: add https://mcp.tolt.com/ to Claude or ChatGPT and sign in, with no API key (Tolt MCP). It answers from live data and acts: approving or rejecting commissions, inviting partners, moving them between groups and scheduling reports to Slack or email. One of its example requests is approving every pending commission from partners in a VIP group. The gate: in Claude, Tolt's FAQ says you set each tool to run on its own, need your approval, or stay off. Set approval on, have the agent first list the pending commissions with each customer's payment date and refund status, and let a person approve only after checking that the refund window has passed. Rewardful documents no MCP server; its developer docs offer a REST API and webhooks instead.
Choose Rewardful if your job is
- Running a programme under $7,500 a month of affiliate revenue for $49, or between $20,000 and $30,000 for $149 (pricing schedule).
- Paying affiliates from your own PayPal or Wise account, with no percentage on top.
- Blocking brand bidding and self-referrals from the first plan.
Choose Tolt if your job is
- Paying many partners across countries, with tax forms and 1099s handled, for 2% of payouts (pricing).
- Billing through Chargebee, or running affiliates and an in-app referral programme side by side.
- Asking an AI assistant to approve, invite and report from the chat, behind an approval setting.
Background on Rewardful is in its glossary entry, and creator promo codes on Stripe are set up step by step in how to use Rewardful.
Free before paid
Both start free for 14 days, and Tolt's trial needs no card (pricing). Before either, take last quarter's affiliate revenue and commissions per month, find your row in the band table, and time one payout run. Those three numbers settle most of this decision on paper. If you still doubt it, Tolt's pricing FAQ offers a full refund when asked within 30 days.
FAQ
Can I move from Rewardful to Tolt without new links?
Tolt says it imports affiliates, referral links, clicks, customers, commissions and coupons, and that affiliates keep their links and sign in with a magic link (pricing). That is the vendor's claim; test one affiliate's link after the move.
Does Tolt stop commissions when a customer cancels?
Yes. Its FAQ says commission stops when the billing platform reports a cancellation, and a refunded payment's commission is taken back from the affiliate (pricing FAQ). Rewardful also adjusts commissions on refunds, downgrades and cancellations (pricing).
Does the MCP server cost extra on Tolt?
No. Tolt's MCP FAQ says it comes with every plan, and connecting signs your AI app in to your Tolt account, so there is no API key to copy. Rewardful has no equivalent to compare it with.
