The short answer: if your company already pays for Google Workspace, Gmail is not the free option; it is the one you have already bought, and on an eligible plan it brings Gemini, which summarises threads, drafts replies, adds labels and proposes meeting times (Gemini in Gmail). Superhuman Mail sits on top of that same Gmail account and adds a faster client: Starter costs $25 a member a month billed annually, $300 a year, or $30 monthly, and Business, with Auto Drafts and the MCP server, $33 or $40 (Mail plans, checked on 26 October 2026). Pay for Superhuman when email is the job rather than part of it: founders, partnership leads, anyone whose day is follow-ups.

Before you add a second bill:

  1. What it adds to the Workspace invoice. For example, four marketing leads on Superhuman Starter cost 4 x $300 = $1,200 a year, and on Business 4 x $396 = $1,584, on top of what Google already charges (annual plan). One person trying Starter for a month on monthly billing costs $30.
  2. What your Gmail already includes. Gmail offers Smart Reply, Smart Compose and Nudges, which remind you to respond or follow up. Google's plan table lists Gemini in Gmail on each Workspace business plan (Workspace pricing); on a personal account, Help me write works only in the US (Help me write).
  3. Who waits on you, and for how long. List your ten most important senders, agency, CFO, two partners, and note for one week how many hours each waited for a reply. Repeat in week four of whatever you choose.

What separates them

Gemini works on your mail; Superhuman changes how you move through it

Gemini in Gmail is an assistant in a side panel: you ask, it summarises, drafts, searches or organises (help). Superhuman Mail is a different way of reading: Split Inbox sorts mail before you see it, Snippets type the replies you send every week, read statuses show who opened what, and keyboard shortcuts move you through it (Mail page). If the problem is too many words, Gemini addresses it. If the problem is too many threads, Superhuman does.

Who starts the draft

Help me write drafts when you ask, and it pulls details from your other emails and Drive files; a Sources button shows which ones it used (Help me write). Superhuman's Auto Drafts write replies and follow-ups in your voice without being asked, but only on Business (plans). The difference between Starter and Business, $8 a month per member on annual billing, buys exactly that change of initiative.

Prices, checked on 26 October 2026

Superhuman Mail, per member a month: Starter $25 billed annually or $30 monthly, Business $33 or $40, Enterprise on request, up to 25 seats on Starter and Business (Mail plans). The suite's Business plan costs the same $33 and adds Grammarly, Docs and Go (suite plans). A personal Gmail account costs nothing and comes with 15 GB of storage (Gmail). Google's Workspace pricing page offers a 14-day trial and 16% off with a one-year commitment, but did not display its plan prices when read on 26 October 2026, so check your own invoice for the figure.

One agent step: answer the agency, with sources

The agency has sent a thirty-message thread about launch assets. In Gmail, click Ask Gemini, ask for a summary of the open decisions, then compose a reply with Help me write: "Confirm the Friday deadline and list the two assets still missing" (Gemini in Gmail, Help me write). The human check: click Sources, open the emails and files Gemini drew on, and correct any date it took from an older message before you send. On Superhuman Business, Auto Drafts prepares the same reply unasked, and you edit it in Mail; drafts made through its MCP server appear in Mail but not in Gmail (MCP article).

Superhuman's plan page loads with annual billing selected, and a first-time annual sign-up is charged the whole year at once, $300 a seat on Starter (plans, annual plan). That toggle collects twelve months before you have lived with the client for one; the help centre will refund the remainder if you leave, at the price of losing Mail that day. Switch the toggle to Monthly for the first month.

The free week first

Spend one week in Gmail as it is: let Nudges run, use Gemini on the long threads if your plan has it, and keep the ten-sender log. If every important sender got a reply within a working day, Gmail is doing the job and a second subscription adds speed you will not feel. If replies still slipped, spend $30 on one month of Superhuman Starter and keep the same log.

Choose Superhuman if your job is

  • Clearing a heavy inbox every day, by keyboard, with mail split by sender and type.
  • Following up on deals and partners, with reminders and read statuses on every thread.
  • Sharing threads with colleagues who comment in place, from $25 a member billed annually (plans).

Choose Gmail on its own if your job is

  • Handling a manageable inbox that mostly needs summaries and a first draft.
  • Keeping email, Chat, Meet and Calendar in one Google window at no extra cost.
  • Testing AI drafting before buying anything, through Gemini on your Workspace plan.

FAQ

Does Superhuman replace my Gmail account?

No. Superhuman Mail is built for teams that use Gmail or Outlook and works on top of that account (Mail page), so your Google subscription continues and Superhuman is billed separately.

Is Gemini in Gmail included in Google Workspace?

Google's plan table lists Gemini in Gmail on each business plan, and the side panel needs an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan (Workspace pricing, Gemini in Gmail).

Will drafts move between Superhuman and Gmail?

Not all of them. Superhuman's MCP article says drafts created through its server appear in Mail, and drafts made in Gmail or Outlook do not yet appear in Mail, nor the other way round (MCP article).
