Wisepops vs OptiMonk: A Strategist or an Agent You Brief

The short answer: consider OptiMonk if you will build the popups yourself with an AI agent: it is free to 10,000 pageviews a month, and a store at 90,000 pays Growth from $69 a month billed yearly, $828 a year (OptiMonk pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Consider Wisepops if you want a strategist to run the programme: the managed plan starts at $499 a month on its homepage and at $599 on its pricing page, and a Shopify store can buy the platform without the strategist for $299 a month up to 500,000 pageviews (Wisepops homepage, pricing page, Shopify App Store). This is not a pair people search for; Wisepops is the nearest documented alternative to OptiMonk, so the question is who does the work.

Three sums before the demo or the free plan:
- A year at your traffic. OptiMonk bills every page load by band; Wisepops' Shopify plan is one price up to 500,000 pageviews (OptiMonk pricing, Shopify App Store). For example, at 90,000 pageviews a month OptiMonk Growth is $828 a year against $2,990 for Wisepops on Shopify, both billed yearly, a gap of $2,990 minus $828 = $2,162; at 400,000, OptiMonk Premium starts at $2,148, and the gap shrinks to $842.
- The email platform you keep. Wisepops pushes every lead into Klaviyo and expects you to keep it for email and flows (pricing page); OptiMonk sends signups to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend or HubSpot (OptiMonk integrations). Neither asks you to move your list.
- A reading against people who saw nothing. Wisepops offers a holdout from day one, read after three months; OptiMonk adds a Control (no popup) variant (Wisepops homepage, OptiMonk variants guide). The holdout, step by step, is in the popup list-growth test; decide its size before the first campaign goes live.
Who each one is for
Wisepops calls itself a hybrid by design: a platform plus a strategist who audits your traffic, designs the campaigns and runs monthly business reviews, with first campaigns live in week two or three (Wisepops homepage). It suits an ecommerce, lead generation or education team with traffic and no conversion specialist in house.
OptiMonk sells the opposite arrangement: an agent you brief in a sentence designs, writes and builds the popup, in its app or from Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor through an MCP server, with every feature on every plan (OptiMonk pricing). It suits a store whose marketer would rather describe a campaign than hire someone to run it.
What you are paying for
| Wisepops | OptiMonk | |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs the campaigns | A strategist on the high-touch plan; you, on the Shopify plan (homepage) | You, through an AI agent (pricing) |
| Formats | Popups, quizzes, onsite feed, embeds, bars, web push (homepage) | Popups built by the agent, plus a visual editor (homepage) |
| What the bill follows | Monthly pageviews (homepage) | Every page load, popup or not (pricing) |
| Free route | A 7-day traffic audit, yours to keep, and a 14-day trial after the demo (demo page) or on Shopify (listing) | Free plan to 10,000 pageviews, with no end date (pricing) |
| Tests | Control group or variant, closed automatically at significance (homepage) | A/B variants and a no-popup control (variants guide) |
| Data out | REST API and Zapier (features) | API and MCP server (pricing) |
Where they part
Who does the work
The price gap is mostly a person. On the high-touch plan, Wisepops' team builds the first campaigns from its audit and reviews the numbers monthly; the Shopify self-serve plan is the same platform without the audit, strategist or reviews (Wisepops homepage). OptiMonk replaces the designer with an agent and leaves the strategy with you. A team that already has an owner for conversion gets more from the second.
The reach beyond the popup
Wisepops runs six formats behind one script, including a feed visitors open from your header and web push for those who have left, plus AI product recommendations and cart recovery on Shopify (Wisepops features). OptiMonk sells a popup agent. If your plan needs the feed or web push, that settles it before price does.
Prices on 26 October 2026
| Monthly pageviews | OptiMonk, billed yearly | Wisepops |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 10,000 | Free | Shopify plan at $299 a month; no smaller plan listed |
| 100,000 | Growth, from $69 a month, $828 a year | Shopify plan, $299 a month or $2,990 a year |
| 500,000 | Premium, from $179 a month, $2,148 a year | Shopify plan as above; managed plan from $499 or $599 a month |
| Over 1,000,000 | Master, quoted | Managed plan, quoted by pageviews |
OptiMonk prices are in US dollars excluding VAT and rise within each band: monthly billing starts at $29, $99 and $249, yearly billing is paid upfront and saves 25%, and refunds run 14 days from the first payment (OptiMonk pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Wisepops' Shopify plan is billed in US dollars every 30 days after a 14-day trial (Shopify App Store, checked on 26 October 2026); the homepage FAQ starts the managed plan at $499 a month with two months free on annual plans, while the FAQ on the pricing page, which now opens as a demo booking page, says plans start at $599 a month for sites up to 1M pageviews, quoted in dollars or euros (Wisepops homepage, pricing page, both checked on 26 October 2026). Settle the figure in the order form before the audit starts.
The agent step: rebuild a campaign you already run
Moving between the two, OptiMonk's agent can start from a picture: its AI assistants page lists, among its sample prompts, handing it a screenshot of a popup and asking for a rebuild in the store's brand colours, which ends in a draft inside OptiMonk (AI assistants). Before any switch, pull your contacts and campaign data out of Wisepops through its REST API or Zapier, so nothing is lost when the subscription ends (Wisepops features).
The human check: the person who owns the offer compares the draft with the live campaign, the discount code against the store, the consent sentence word for word, the trigger and the audience, and only then publishes it. OptiMonk's pricing page lists publishing among what the MCP connection can do (OptiMonk pricing), so when Claude asks for permissions, grant building and editing and keep the switch for a person.
The agent being on every plan is real, and it is also how OptiMonk grows an account. Each build draws on a monthly allowance of AI credits, 1,000 on Free and 3,000 to 6,000 on Essential, and the pricing FAQ's answer to running short is to move up a plan or ask for a Master quote (OptiMonk pricing). A team that rebuilds every campaign by chat pays for that habit in tiers. The FAQ defines credits as what the agent uses when it creates things for you, so brief it once per campaign and make small fixes by hand in the visual editor.
Choose Wisepops if
- Your job is a full onsite programme, run with a strategist, across popups, the feed, embeds and web push.
- You sell on Shopify and want all six formats for one price up to 500,000 pageviews (Wisepops homepage, Shopify App Store).
Choose OptiMonk if
- Your job is building store popups yourself, fast, with an agent you brief from the chat you already use.
- Your traffic fits the free plan, or a band whose yearly price sits well under Wisepops' (OptiMonk pricing).
If the gap is an owner, not a tool
Wisepops' case rests on the platform and the strategist working together. Sometimes the missing piece is wider than onsite campaigns: nobody owns conversion across the site, the email programme and the paid traffic that feeds both. That is a gap in the team rather than in the tooling, and an interim CMO, which is work I sell, holds that seat until a permanent hire does.
FAQ
Can either bill in euros?
Wisepops quotes its managed plans in US dollars or euros depending on your market (pricing page); OptiMonk lists its prices in US dollars, excluding VAT (OptiMonk pricing).
Does OptiMonk's free plan run out?
No. The pricing FAQ says the Free plan does not expire and needs no card, covers 10,000 pageviews a month, and is the trial (OptiMonk pricing).
Can the Wisepops audit be kept without buying?
Yes. The demo page says the audit, built on seven days of your real visitors, is yours to keep whether or not you choose Wisepops (demo page).
