The short answer: a two-person team that already makes its posts and decks in Canva can make its video ads there too: Pro is US$18 a month, or US$144 a year, for one person, with a timeline editor, one-click captions and 141M+ premium photos, videos and audio (Canva pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Animoto earns a separate line when video ads built from product photos and short clips are the main job and each one needs a hosted play page with a button and view analytics: Professional is $29 a month on monthly billing, or $19 a month billed annually, with 4K export and 1M+ Getty Images photos and videos (Animoto pricing). Choose Animoto if your job is photo-led video ads you measure on their own page. Choose Canva if your job is every format the brand produces, with video as one of them.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Price it the way your team works:

  1. Seats, not plans. For example, two people on Canva Business pay 2 x US$250 = US$500 a year, while Animoto Professional Plus covers 3 users for $39 a month billed annually, 12 x $39 = $468 a year, per the Canva and Animoto pricing pages. Canva's FAQ says a Pro account is for one person only, so a pair starts at Business.
  2. The brand kit you keep today. If logo, colours and fonts already live in a Canva Brand Kit, every video made there inherits them. Animoto keeps its own Saved Brands, one on Professional and ten on Professional Plus (Animoto pricing), which is a second copy to keep in step.
  3. What the ads are made of. Product photos and phone clips suit Animoto's drag-and-drop templates (Animoto). Longer footage that needs trimming and layering suits Canva's multi-layered timeline (Canva video editor).
  4. Where the click is counted. Decide now whether the measure is clicks from the video's own page or clicks in the ad platform, and keep last month's figure beside it.

What decides it

A video tool with a brand, or a brand system with video

Animoto exists for people whose main job is not video: upload photos and short clips, or record the screen, then drop them into a template (Animoto). Canva exists for every design a team makes: video is one of its 1,000+ design types, made in the same account where the team's Brand Kits already live (Canva pricing). If video is one format among ten, splitting it off into a second tool splits the brand with it.

Two people on one project

Animoto's team workspace arrives with Professional Plus, and its help centre says only one team member can edit a given project at a time (collaboration article). Canva puts collaboration and team admin tools in Business, with approvals on its Brand Kits (Canva pricing). Animoto expects people to take turns; on Canva, the shared workspace is what Business is for.

What happens after export

Animoto gives each video a customisable landing page from Basic, and Professional adds video analytics (Animoto pricing) and a clickable button on the play page that sends viewers to a URL you choose (call-to-action guide). Canva exports the file and, on Pro, schedules social posts (Canva pricing). If the video needs a home of its own with a click to count, that is Animoto's ground.

The prices, as listed

Animoto on monthly billing: Basic $19, Professional $29, Professional Plus $79; billed annually: $9, $19 and $39 a month, the page saying the annual Professional Plus saves $480 a year (Animoto pricing). Canva: Pro US$18 a month or US$144 a year for one person; Business US$25 a month or US$250 a year per person, with tax excluded (Canva pricing). Both checked on 26 October 2026.

A product page turned into a draft ad

Animoto's AI Video Creator has two doors on the Projects page (AI Video Creator guide). Generate from URL takes a web page and the kind of video you want and builds a draft from its images and copy. Create with AI takes a description and your photos, uploaded or sent from a phone by QR code, and shows a scene-by-scene breakdown you can edit before you press Generate Video.

Use the second door for an ad: describe the offer, add six product photos, and stop at the breakdown. The human check happens there, before anything is generated: someone reads each scene's text against the product page and the offer terms, cuts any claim the page does not make, and only then generates. Canva's equivalent inside its editor is Magic Video, which assembles your clips from a short prompt (Canva video editor); for Canva driven by an outside agent, see FlexClip vs Canva.

The add-on on the first line

The first line on Canva's pricing page advertises AI Pass, an add-on only a Pro or Business subscriber can buy (Canva pricing). The page opens by selling the purchase after the one you came to make. Buy the plan first, and the add-on only once Pro's allowance has run out in an ordinary month of video ads.

Free versions, same brief

Animoto Free makes unlimited videos at 720p with its watermark, without downloads (Animoto pricing, sharing article). Canva Free includes the editor, 1.6M+ templates and up to 20 AI uses (Canva pricing). Build next week's ad in both from the same six photos and the same headline, and show the two previews to the person who approves ads. The one they would run is the answer; the price follows from it.

Choose by the job

  • Choose Animoto if your job is video ads and short promos from product photos and clips, each with a hosted page and a button whose clicks you track.
  • Choose Canva if your job is the brand's whole design output, posts, decks, ads and video, made by a team that shares one set of Brand Kits.
