The short answer: if the person making your product videos is a marketer, not an editor, and turns out four or five a month from photos and short clips, Animoto is the gentler tool: Basic, $9 a month billed annually or $19 on monthly billing, removes the watermark and exports 1080p, and Professional, $19 a month billed annually, adds 4K, a voice-over and 1M+ Getty Images photos and videos (Animoto pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). If someone on the team edits every day and wants keyframes, motion tracking and AI generation in one app, CapCut gives more editor for the money; its yearly tab listed Pro at USD 179.99 with 1,200 AI credits a month, all prices labelled as a reference until sign-in (CapCut pricing). Choose Animoto if your job is tidy product and promo videos without learning a timeline. Choose CapCut if your job is daily social editing with generation on tap.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Check before you open either:

  1. A year of each entry plan. For example, Animoto Basic billed annually is 12 x $9 = $108 and Professional 12 x $19 = $228, against USD 179.99 for CapCut Pro yearly, using the Animoto and CapCut pricing pages. CapCut Pro lands between Animoto's two single-user plans.
  2. Who will do the editing. Animoto describes itself for people whose main job is not video, working by drag and drop (Animoto). CapCut's tool list runs to keyframe animation, motion tracking and a green screen editor (CapCut). Match the tool to the person, not to the brief.
  3. The pictures you have. A folder of product photos and phone clips suits either. A brief that needs licensed lifestyle footage points to Animoto Professional's Getty library; a brief that needs footage nobody shot points to CapCut's generators.
  4. The clock you will read. Minutes per finished video for the last three, so the free test has a number to beat.

The differences worth paying for

Guardrails, or a blank timeline

Animoto keeps the edit inside a template: drop in photos, clips, text styles and licensed music, and drag graphics and effects into place (Animoto). CapCut hands over the timeline itself, with trimming, keyframes and effects for anyone who wants control (CapCut). Guardrails make the occasional editor faster. They also stop the daily editor from doing what the feed asks for.

Footage you license, or footage you generate

Animoto's Professional plan includes Getty Images stock, 1M+ photos and videos, and Professional Plus 100M+ (Animoto pricing). CapCut's Pro plan prices generated video by the second, Seedance 2.5 from $0.12 a second in the first month, out of 1,200 monthly credits (CapCut pricing). Licensed stock has a known look and a known licence. Generated footage fills the gap no stock clip covers, and every second of it is metered.

Desk, or pocket

Animoto works in the browser (Animoto pricing). CapCut runs as CapCut Desktop, CapCut Online, CapCut Pad and CapCut Mobile (CapCut). A social lead who films and posts from a phone at an event will not wait to get back to a laptop.

Per year, billed annually

Animoto: Basic $108, Professional $228 and Professional Plus $468 for 3 users, which is twelve times the per-month figures of $9, $19 and $39; on monthly billing the three plans are $19, $29 and $79 (Animoto pricing). CapCut's yearly tab: Pro USD 179.99, Ultra USD 900 with 8,645 credits a month, Teams USD 107.5 per seat; on its monthly tab, Pro USD 19.99, Ultra USD 79 and Teams USD 12.49 a seat (CapCut pricing). Checked on 26 October 2026; CapCut says final prices and taxes show after sign-in.

A template found for the story, by agent

CapCut x Codex, CapCut's official plugin for the ChatGPT desktop app on PC, can narrow CapCut's template library to the ones that fit a story you describe, apply the chosen template to a draft, and swap in your own media before you refine the tracks in CapCut (CapCut x Codex). Describe the video in plain terms, "a 20-second launch teaser for a ceramic mug, calm, square", upload eight product photos, and ask for three template options with your photos placed in each.

The human check: the person who owns the brand picks one of the three, then opens it in the CapCut editor and confirms that the fonts and colours were swapped to the brand's, that every clip and caption in it is yours to publish, and that nothing from the template's sample content survived. CapCut's page itself advises choosing what fits rather than accepting every suggestion. Animoto's AI drafts inside its own app from a description and photos; there, the scene-by-scene breakdown before Generate is the point to check.

The welcome bonus points at the meter

CapCut's sign-up offer is 200 credits to try Seedance video creation (CapCut pricing). The gift is aimed at the part of the product billed by the second, not at the editor most marketers came for. Spend the free credits on one clip you would otherwise have had to shoot, and judge the editor on the work you do every week.

The free test, one brief in each

Animoto Free makes unlimited videos with its watermark at 720p, and downloading starts on Basic (sharing article). CapCut Free covers basic editing and its free templates (CapCut pricing). Give the person who will make the videos the same eight photos and the same 20-second script in both, and note two things: the minutes it took, and which result they would post without asking anyone for help.

Choose Animoto if

  • Your job is product, promo and announcement videos made by someone who does not edit for a living.
  • Licensed Getty stock and a template that keeps everything on brand matter more than fine control.
  • The videos are made at a desk, a handful a month.

Choose CapCut if

  • Your job is short social video, edited daily, often from a phone.
  • You want keyframes, motion tracking and generated clips in the same app.
  • One editor's yearly plan matters more than a guided template.

The Animoto entry covers its plans. CapCut has no entry; capcut.com is its own reference. For CapCut against a transcript editor, see Descript vs CapCut.
