The short answer: if one person edits on one Windows or Mac computer and wants the project files on that machine, Movavi Video Editor is the cheaper year, but only on its business licence: $94.95 for a 1-year subscription on Movavi's business page, because its licence agreement bars personal and trial versions from commercial use (Movavi for business, licence agreement, checked on 26 October 2026). If two or three people share drafts by link and want licensed stock and a hosted page for each video, Animoto fits better: Professional Plus covers 3 users for $39 a month billed annually, with 100M+ Getty Images photos and videos (Animoto pricing). Choose Movavi if your job is solo editing of your own footage on a desktop. Choose Animoto if your job is template videos a small team builds and shares in the browser.

Red flags for a team buying desktop software:

  1. The licence on the first price you see. For example, Movavi's store shows a personal Video Editor year at $54.95, its business page $94.95, so marketing use costs 94.95 - 54.95 = $40 more a year (store, business page). Against that, Animoto Basic billed annually is 12 x $9 = $108 (Animoto pricing).
  2. The machine it has to run on. Movavi lists Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor and 4 GB of RAM for the Windows editor (Video Editor page). An office of locked-down laptops turns installation into an IT ticket.
  3. Who else needs the draft. Animoto keeps projects in a shared team workspace on Professional Plus and collects time-stamped comments on drafts (collaboration article, pricing). A desktop project travels as files.
  4. The refund rules. Movavi refunds within 14 days for technical problems support cannot fix, duplicate orders or activation failures, and not for missing features (refund policy). Test before you buy.

Read on 26 October 2026 from Animoto pricing, Animoto's reseller article, the Movavi store, Movavi for business, the Movavi Video Editor page and the Movavi licence agreement.

Where the two differ

Shared links, or files on a disk

Animoto lives in the browser: upload photos and clips, edit in a template, and share a link or a play page (Animoto). Movavi is software you install, version 27.2.0 on the day this page was checked, with a timeline, blade tool, colour correction, chroma key and stabilisation (Video Editor page). Files on one machine suit one editor with large footage. Links suit a team that reviews.

Which licence a marketing team needs

Movavi's general licence agreement describes a business licence as the one for internal corporate and commercial purposes, including the creation of advertising or marketing materials, and says versions for private use and trial versions may not be used commercially, with a narrow exception for monetised YouTube videos (licence agreement). Animoto ties commercial rights to the plan instead: Professional Plus is the tier for selling videos to businesses that use them to earn money (reseller article).

Where the AI sits

Movavi's AI works on footage you already have: one-click automatic subtitles in almost any language, silence removal with an adjustable threshold, and cropping that follows the speaker or product when you turn a horizontal clip vertical (Video Editor page). Animoto's AI writes the first draft from a description and photos (AI Video Creator guide). Editing recorded demos favours the first. Starting from nothing but photos favours the second.

Prices, licence by licence

Movavi's business page, checked on 26 October 2026: Video Editor at $94.95 for a 1-year subscription, shown against $136.95; Video Suite, which adds a converter and screen recorder, at $169.95 per licence per year, $161.45 for 5 to 9 licences and $152.96 for 10 to 24 (Movavi for business). The consumer store lists the personal Video Editor at $19.95 for a month (store). Animoto: Basic $19, Professional $29 and Professional Plus $79 a month on monthly billing, or $9, $19 and $39 a month billed annually (Animoto pricing).

Subtitles and a vertical cut from a recorded demo

Record a three-minute product demo, open it in Movavi Video Editor, and run three of its AI tools in order (Video Editor page). Silence removal cuts the pauses, with the pause length and volume threshold yours to set. Automatic subtitles turn the speech into captions in the language you choose. Auto-tracked cropping then makes a vertical copy that keeps the speaker or the product centred.

The human check is three passes on the result: someone reads every subtitle against the product's real names and numbers, watches the vertical copy for the moments when a menu or a price slides out of frame, and listens for a cut that took the half second where a sentence turned. Animoto's AI step sits earlier, at the scene list it shows before a draft is generated (AI Video Creator guide).

The price on the store page

Movavi's store lists the Video Editor at $19.95 for a month on the page most buyers reach first, while its licence agreement keeps personal and trial versions out of commercial work (store, licence agreement). The lower figure is the one a marketing team cannot use. Start from the business page and the business price, so the budget matches the licence.

Try both before any purchase

Movavi offers a free download whose limits vary by build: a watermark on exported clips, a 60-second video limit or half the audio length, and some features off at export (Video Editor page). Animoto Free makes unlimited 720p videos with its watermark (Animoto pricing). Use the trial only to test, since the licence agreement excludes trial versions from commercial use: cut last month's demo in Movavi, build a 20-second promo from product photos in Animoto, and note which tool each kind of job wanted.

Who should pick which

  • Choose Movavi if your job is editing your own recordings, demos and interviews on one desktop, by one person, with AI subtitles and cropping on the timeline, under a business licence.
  • Choose Animoto if your job is short template videos from photos and clips that a small team builds, reviews by link and publishes with a page of their own.

Animoto's plans are in its glossary entry. Movavi has no entry; movavi.com is its own reference. How to use Animoto walks through one product ad from photos to three shapes.

FAQ

Is there a Mac version of Movavi Video Editor?

Yes. Movavi's business page links a Mac version and its product page lists Mac OS among the system requirements (Movavi for business, Video Editor page).

Can a team buy Movavi in bulk?

Yes. The business page separates a retail plan for 1 to 4 licences from a bulk plan for 5 or more, lowers the Video Suite price per licence as the count rises, and sends larger orders to sales (Movavi for business).

Can I upload my own fonts to Animoto?

On Professional Plus, which lists font uploads alongside 10 saved brands and 25 saved templates (Animoto pricing).
