Brand24 vs Brandwatch: Live Mentions or a Research Archive

The short answer: to hear this week what people say about your brand and two competitors, Brand24 is enough: its Team plan follows 7 keywords and collects up to 10,000 mentions a month, refreshed hourly, for unlimited users, at $349 a month on monthly billing (checked on 26 October 2026 on the Brand24 pricing page). If the question is how a category's conversation moved over five years, Brand24 is the wrong shape: a new project starts with the last 30 days, while Brandwatch Consumer Research searches more than 1.4 trillion posts going back to 2008 and is priced through a demo (Consumer Research page).

Brandwatch changes the question you can ask. Brand24 is a monitor: you name keywords, it collects public mentions from that day forward, scores their sentiment and alerts you when volume jumps. Brandwatch's Consumer Research is a research archive with AI on top, built for analysts who segment audiences, train their own classifiers and upload company data to read beside public posts. One is bought on a card in an afternoon; the other through a sales conversation, as part of a suite now sold together with Cision.
Before you sign anything:
- Turn your keywords into a monthly mention count. For example, a brand name, a product and one competitor producing 120, 60 and 40 mentions a day add up to (120 + 60 + 40) x 30 = 6,600 a month: inside Team's 10,000, over Individual's 2,000. Brand24's pricing FAQ charges overage fees on mentions past the plan limit.
- Reread last quarter's questions from your board or leadership. If any needed data older than a month, such as how sentiment moved around last year's launch, Brand24 cannot answer it without a custom arrangement. If you hold survey answers or reviews you want read beside public posts, Brandwatch's Data Upload API is built for that.
- Sample relevance before trusting a total. Read 50 collected mentions for each keyword and count how many are about you. A keyword where half are noise needs excluded words before its volume means anything.

Depth, speed, ownership
How far back
Brand24's history article is plain about its design: projects start with a sample of the last 30 days, it compares itself to a wide fishing net rather than an excavator, and it offers a custom solution when history is urgent. Brandwatch's Consumer Research leads with the opposite promise, an archive back to 2008. A brand preparing a launch should start its Brand24 project weeks before launch day, because the baseline cannot be fetched afterwards.
What you can see before buying
Brand24 publishes every plan's keyword count, mention allowance, update speed and price, and lets you buy monthly or ask to switch to annual after the trial. Brandwatch's plans page describes Consumer Intelligence, Social Media Management and Influencer Marketing and ends in a demo form. That is normal for enterprise research tools; it means price can only be compared after a sales call.
Whose data
Brandwatch's developer APIs let a team upload unstructured data from any source and analyse it with Brandwatch's algorithms beside public conversations, then export or stream results into its own systems. Brand24 integrates with Slack and Microsoft Teams for alerts and reports in PDF, Excel and PowerPoint. If research is a function in your company, with analysts and a data warehouse, that difference decides it.
Prices
Brand24, read on 26 October 2026 from its pricing page, per month on monthly billing, then billed annually: Individual $249 or $199 (3 keywords, 2,000 mentions, 1 user); Team $349 or $299 (7 keywords, 10,000 mentions); Pro $499 or $399 (12 keywords, 40,000 mentions); Business $699 or $599 (25 keywords, 100,000 mentions); Enterprise from $1,499 billed annually.
Brandwatch publishes no prices. Its plans page, read the same day, offers a free demo for each solution; ask for the quote to state the number of users, the history included and any limits on query volume.
An AI step: a weekly summary that a person verifies
Brand24's MCP article connects ChatGPT, Claude or another client to live project data after an OAuth sign-in, for subscribers. Each Monday, ask it what happened in your brand project last week and which sources and authors drove the biggest change. The assistant writes the summary. A person opens the top ten mentions behind each claim in Brand24 before the summary goes to anyone, and before any reply or statement is drafted from it. The article itself suggests asking the AI to draft a crisis response from current sentiment; that draft is where the human check matters most.
Brandwatch's Iris does the summarising inside the product. Its guide to Iris Conversation Insights in Listen says it sends the 240 highest-impact mentions to a third-party generative AI, returns summaries in English, and recommends using it with manual review of mention snippets; administrators can switch third-party AI features off.
Start with what is free
Before either tool, run a week of free monitoring: a Google Alerts entry for each keyword plus the native search on the two networks where your customers talk. If the week produces a handful of mentions, a paid tool would mostly count silence. If it produces more than you can read, start Brand24's trial, which needs no card.
Brand24's trial runs Pro's features with up to 10 keywords, against Team's 7, so a trial built on all ten keywords leaves three to delete, or the $499 Pro plan to keep, on day 15 (trial article). Build the trial on the keyword count you will pay for. For Brandwatch, the free step is the demo: bring the three questions from the list above and ask to see each one answered on your own category.
Choose Brand24 if
- Your job is knowing within hours when your brand or a competitor is discussed, and reacting.
- The budget is a published monthly price, and the history you need starts now.
- You want an assistant reading your mention data through an MCP connection.
Choose Brandwatch if
- Your job is research: years of category conversation, audience segments and your own data analysed together.
- Analysts will train classifiers and feed results into company systems through APIs.
- The budget allows an enterprise contract agreed after a demo.
For the Brand24 setup itself, How to Use Brand24 walks through projects, filters and alerts.
