Brand24 vs Meltwater: Online Mentions or Press Coverage

The short answer: if the coverage your leadership asks about appears online, Brand24 answers it on a card: the Team plan follows 7 keywords and up to 10,000 mentions a month, refreshed hourly, for $349 on monthly billing or $299 a month billed annually (Brand24 pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Meltwater is worth its quote when a communications team also needs newspapers, TV and radio, and someone to pitch: it lists 400,000+ print titles, broadcast across all 210 US media markets and 800,000+ journalist and media contacts, prices every tier through sales, and puts most contracts on annual terms with a 12-month minimum (media monitoring, media database, pricing FAQ).
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
The two are sold to different desks. Brand24 is a listening tool a marketing lead can switch on in an afternoon. Meltwater is a media intelligence suite for PR teams, where monitoring sits beside media relations, influencer marketing and AI visibility tracking, and the second one also sells the outreach.
Questions to answer before the demo:
- What a year of the cheaper option costs. For example, Brand24 Team billed annually comes to 12 x $299 = $3,588, and Business, the first plan with podcasts, to 12 x $599 = $7,188, on the Brand24 pricing page. Take the first figure to Meltwater's demo and ask what seven keywords cost there over twelve months.
- Where last quarter's coverage appeared. List the ten pieces of coverage your leadership asked about and mark each as online article, social post, podcast, print or broadcast. Brand24's plan table lists social networks, news, blogs, reviews and newsletters, with podcasts from Business, and has no print or broadcast row (Brand24 pricing). If three of the ten ran in print or on air, the tool that cannot see them is the wrong one.
- What should change after a month. Pick two numbers: mentions that needed a reply or a pitch, and the hours between a mention appearing and someone acting on it. Take both now, so the month afterwards has a baseline.
Side by side, each line sourced

What decides it
The medium your coverage appears in
Brand24 reads the open web and social networks, adding LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok from Team, reviews and newsletters from Pro, and podcasts from Business at $699 a month on monthly billing (Brand24 pricing). Meltwater adds what a website cannot hold: print, TV and radio, and on the social side full access to Reddit's firehose (social media monitoring). For a software scale-up whose press is all online, those media sit unused. For a consumer brand whose chief executive reads the trade press on paper, they are the brief.
Watching coverage, or creating it
Meltwater's media database has no Brand24 equivalent: 800,000+ journalists and media contacts, checked by 90+ research analysts alongside AI crawlers, with alerts when a journalist changes outlet or beat (media database). Press distribution sits in the same platform. Brand24 tells you which site wrote about you; finding the reporter and writing the pitch stays with you.
How you buy, and how you leave
Brand24's price list is public, so a marketing lead can decide alone and stop after a month. Meltwater's FAQ lists what moves its quote, from sources, regions and data volume to users, integrations and contract terms, and warns that complex setups can carry a one-time onboarding charge (pricing FAQ). Plan for a procurement conversation and a year's term.
What each costs
| Brand24 plan | What it adds | Monthly billing | Billed annually, per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Individual | 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions a month, updates every 12 hours | $249 | $199 |
| Team | 7 keywords, 10,000 mentions, hourly, unlimited users | $349 | $299 |
| Pro | 12 keywords, 40,000 mentions, real time, reviews, MCP | $499 | $399 |
| Business | 25 keywords, 100,000 mentions, podcasts | $699 | $599 |
| Enterprise | Custom mention limit | From $1,499 | From $1,499 |
USD, from the Brand24 pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026. API access is an additional $149 on Pro and Business.
Meltwater publishes no figures. Its pricing page, read the same day, shows Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency tiers, each behind a Contact Sales button. Ask the representative to put the users, the media types and the notice period in writing.
One AI step: a news list an assistant drafts and a person checks
Brand24's MCP server connects ChatGPT, Claude or another client to live project data after an OAuth sign-in, and its MCP article offers "List news sites that write about YOUR_PROJECT_NAME" as a sample prompt. Run it monthly for your brand and each rival. The assistant returns the outlets; a person opens every article, confirms it is about you and not a namesake, and notes the byline before anyone drafts a pitch, because a list of outlets is not yet a list of journalists. Meltwater's AI page describes its own MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT, signed in with a Meltwater account.

Choose Brand24 if
- Your job is knowing within hours what is said online about your brand and two rivals, and replying.
- A published monthly price has to fit a marketing budget without a procurement round.
- Your coverage lives on websites, social networks and newsletters, not in print or on air.
Choose Meltwater if
- Your job is press relations: finding journalists, pitching them and reporting what follows.
- Print, TV, radio or podcasts carry coverage your leadership reads.
- The budget allows an annual contract agreed through sales.
Start with the sheet, then the trial
The coverage sheet from the list above costs nothing and settles most of this. Then start Brand24's trial: 14 days on Pro features, 10 keywords and up to 30,000 mentions refreshed every 24 hours, no card (trial article). Meltwater's free step is the demo; bring the ten items and ask to see each one found.
Meltwater's FAQ presents its twelve-month minimum as the time needed to set benchmarks and measure impact. It is also a year of fees agreed before the first monthly report shows whether the print and broadcast coverage you paid to see turns up, so ask for the sheet's ten items during the demo, not after signature.
If the sheet shows coverage nobody pitched and mentions nobody answered, the gap is a press function nobody owns rather than a missing tool, and holding that seat for a set period is the interim CMO work I sell.
FAQ
Does Meltwater publish its prices?
No. Its pricing page shows four tiers behind Contact Sales buttons, and its FAQ says every quote is tailored to modules, regions, data volume, users and contract terms.
Can Brand24 monitor print newspapers or television?
Its plan comparison lists social networks, news sites, blogs, reviews, newsletters and, from Business, podcasts. Print and broadcast do not appear on the pricing page.
Which one can I try without speaking to sales?
Brand24, with a 14-day trial and no card. Meltwater's FAQ says it offers no self-serve trial and arranges a guided demo instead.
