The short answer: a pixel that misses purchases is a tracking problem. Whether the ads caused the purchases is a different one. For an ecommerce store whose sales close in a Shopify checkout, Causality Engine is the pick for the second. It reads 12 months or more of the GA4 history you already have, for €99 once (pricing, checked on 27 October 2026), and the first finding is free at app.causalityengine.ai/start. Hyros sells ad tracking to ecommerce, SaaS, call-based and info-product businesses. It is strongest where the hard part is following one buyer through webinars, booked calls and long paths to payment, then feeding those sales back to Meta and Google. If that is your business, Hyros does a job Causality Engine does not.

Disclosure: I founded Causality Engine and own it, and this page recommends it. Every claim about it links to Causality Engine's own pages.

Your Meta pixel reports fewer purchases than the store booked, and the fix on offer is a better tracker. That is the promise on Hyros's e-commerce page: catch the orders the ad pixels miss, repeat purchases included, and send them back so the platforms target better. A better ledger is worth having. It still answers a different question from whether the ads caused the sales written in it.

Three things to settle before the setup call:

  1. The cost of waiting. Fixing the tracking before deciding anything is a sensible instinct. Hyros's Shopify install guide says it can import sales up to 365 days old, but without their source, because tracking was not active yet. For example, take €15,000 a month of ad spend. The 90 days a new tracker needs to fill one quarter of sourced data is €15,000 x 3 = €45,000 of budget. That budget gets set on the numbers you already doubt.
  2. The funnel you run. Hyros's home page sorts its customers into SaaS, e-commerce, B2B calls and info or education. If buyers book a call after a webinar, its call and lead tracking fits. If they pay in a Shopify checkout, GA4 has been recording the path all along.
  3. The call you would make today. Write down the channel you would cut today, and by how much. After either tool, see whether the evidence moves that call. Causality Engine adds a data-health score from 0 to 100 per channel, and under 90 it advises moving budget in steps (how it works).

The two differences that decide it

A fuller ledger is still a ledger

Hyros's e-commerce page describes its swarm pixel attributing every sale, repeat purchase and reorder to an ad. The data goes back to Meta and Google so their algorithms learn from it. That sharpens the platforms' own bidding, which is real value. It still credits each sale to a touch. A sale that would have happened without the ad gets the ad's name on it just the same.

Causality Engine asks the counterfactual instead: what would sales have been without this channel? Its causal attribution page estimates that from the converting paths already in GA4. It rebuilds last-click from the same file so the two sit side by side, and splits Direct back to the channels that sent those buyers. Where the data is thin, it says so: a channel under 1% of credit on both methods is called too small to act on.

History you have, or history you start collecting

A tracker learns from the day it goes in. Hyros's guide is plain about it: imported sales help with lifetime value, and their source stays unknown. Causality Engine works on GA4's record of the paths. Last quarter's spend is readable the day you export it, with no developer and nothing on the storefront (home page).

Where Hyros is the right tool

Booked calls, high-ticket closes, courses and software trials are among the funnels its home page is built around. Its pricing page includes a set-up team and an AI analyst on the one plan. The Hyros MCP on its home page lets Claude answer questions such as which ads to cut on lifetime value, and offers to apply the change. The human check: approve nothing until the cut ad's spend is tested against a region or period you hold back.

What it costs, checked on 27 October 2026

Hyros publishes no figure. Its pricing page describes one plan with everything included, sized to the revenue it tracks and quoted on a 15-minute set-up call. It comes with a guarantee that your ads grow or you do not pay. Its terms allow refund requests in writing within 90 days of the first charge.

Causality Engine's pricing page lists €99 for one read and €299 a month for Pro, billed monthly, excluding VAT. The read's refund runs 30 days from payment and needs no reason, and you keep the analysis, per section 3.2 of its terms.

Read the renewal before the guarantee

Hyros sizes its price to the revenue it tracks for you. So the more of your sales it attributes, the larger the base its own quote sits on. Section 7.2 of its terms renews an order for a term as long as the first, unless you cancel at least 30 days before it ends. Put that date in the calendar on the day you sign.

Causality Engine's own comparison with Hyros comes from the company I own, so read it as a vendor's case. It recommends keeping Hyros where it already runs and adding a read on top.

Choose Causality Engine if your job is

  • Deciding which ad channels earn their budget on a store that sells through a Shopify or other GA4-tracked checkout.
  • Reading last quarter's spend now, instead of waiting for a new tracker to fill a quarter.
  • A causal check before you sign a contract that renews itself.

Choose Hyros if your job is

  • Following buyers through webinars, calls and long sales cycles to the payment, including phone sales.
  • Sending more complete conversion data back to Meta and Google for their bidding.
  • Tracking repeat purchases and lifetime value by ad, with a set-up team doing the install.

The free version, then the paid one

You can look at your own paths today without buying anything. In GA4, open Advertising, then Attribution paths, where Google's attribution help points, and download the report as a CSV. Drop that file on the start page. The first finding is free and worked out in your browser. The checkup page describes it: how many days buyers who saw two or more channels took to convert.

When you want the verdict per channel, Causality Engine, which I founded, sells the full read for €99 at app.causalityengine.ai/start, refundable within 30 days. How it works lays out the method and its assumptions. Pro, at €299 a month, adds automated GA4 ingestion and budget alerts when a channel's performance shifts.

FAQ

Is Causality Engine a Hyros alternative?

For an ecommerce store asking which channels caused sales, yes. For call tracking, long funnels or feeding conversions back to ad platforms, no. Causality Engine sends nothing to the platforms and installs nothing.

Can I import my old sales into Hyros?

Yes, but without their source. Its Shopify guide says sales up to 365 days old can be imported for lifetime value, and their source will not show, since tracking was not active then.

Does Causality Engine work if I already run Hyros?

Yes. It reads a GA4 export, so Hyros's script stays in place. The home page calls it a layer, not a migration. The condition is that GA4 runs on the store.
