Decktopus vs Gamma: One Presenter or a Deck Pipeline

The short answer: you are right to compare credits rather than plan names, because both tools meter AI and they meter it differently. Decktopus charges 5 credits for each slide it generates, and Pro's 750 a month cost $9.99 a month billed yearly (Decktopus credits, Decktopus pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Gamma gives 1,000 credits a month on Plus and lets unused plan credits roll over up to twice that (Gamma credits). Choose Decktopus if your job is one person building and rehearsing each deck. Choose Gamma if your job is decks produced by a workflow or an agent, every month, for many clients.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Credits first, then features:

  1. One 20-slide deck in each currency. For example, Decktopus charges 20 x 5 = 100 credits to generate it, so Pro's 750 cover 7 such decks a month (credits article). Gamma's API prices text at 1 to 3 credits per card, so the same deck costs 20 to 60 credits before images, which add 2 to 15 credits each on a standard model (access and pricing).
  2. What already feeds your decks. If the inputs are a brief in your head, Decktopus starts from a topic or an uploaded file (pricing page). If they sit in a sheet, a Google Drive folder or a form, Gamma connects to Zapier, Make and n8n through its API (connectors article) and imports Drive files once Drive is connected (import article).
  3. Cost per deck, measured. Every Gamma API job returns the credits it deducted (access and pricing); Decktopus keeps a credit history in its Subscription Panel (credits article). Log credits and editing minutes for your first ten decks on either tool.

From the Decktopus credits article, carry-over article, pricing page and MCP guide, and Gamma's credits article, plans article and developer pricing, read on 26 October 2026.

The split that matters

One presenter, or a pipeline

Decktopus is designed around a person: a topic in, a deck out, then Loop to rehearse it with simulated audience questions (pricing page). Gamma is designed to be called: an API, a hosted MCP server, and automation nodes, with workspace templates the generator follows (connectors article). An agency sending twenty monthly client decks needs the second. A consultant pitching on Thursday needs the first.

Practice, or publishing

What Decktopus adds after the slides is preparation for the room. What Gamma adds is distribution: decks that also become documents and webpages, custom domains from Pro, and engagement analytics from Pro up (plans article).

Prices, checked on 26 October 2026

Decktopus Pro is $24.99 a month billed monthly, $19.99 a month billed quarterly ($59.97) or $9.99 a month billed yearly ($119.88); Business is $44.99, $39.99 or $19.99 a month per seat (Decktopus pricing). Gamma's pricing page showed a bot check to automated readers that day, so its Plus and Pro prices could not be read; the help centre gives Business at $40 per member a month billed annually (Gamma Business) and says annual plans carry a 28% discount on the monthly rate.

A monthly client deck, run by n8n

Gamma's help centre lists n8n, Zapier and Make as automation platforms that call the Gamma API, and notes a difference that shapes the design: n8n can also edit an existing gamma, while Zapier and Make can only create (connectors article). A monthly client report fits n8n. The trigger is the client's row in your reporting sheet being marked final. An HTTP Request node sends the row's figures to Gamma's generation endpoint with the client's workspace template, the workflow polls the job until it reports completed, and the new gamma's link goes to the account manager's task list (template guide). Corrections that follow can run through n8n's Edit operation.

Nothing goes to the client from the workflow. The account manager opens the gamma, checks every number against the sheet, corrects wording in the editor, and sends the link only then. Requests made with an API key draw on the key owner's credits (access and pricing), so give the workflow its own account rather than a person's. Decktopus has no such API on the pages read; its agent route is the MCP connector covered in Decktopus vs Beautiful.ai.

The setting Gamma recommends

Gamma's developer documentation calls auto-recharge the safest way to prevent failed generations and marks it as recommended (access and pricing). For a workflow nobody watches at night, that default turns a loop that misfires into purchased credits instead of an error. Leave auto-recharge off until the workflow has run cleanly for a full month, and let an empty balance stop it.

Free first, then the pipeline

Both have a free door. Gamma's Free plan starts with 400 credits, and API keys work on Free, capped at 10 cards per gamma (access and pricing), which is enough to build and test the n8n workflow on one client. Decktopus's first deck is free, without export and with a watermark (free trial article), which is enough to judge a draft.

  • Choose Decktopus if your job is building and rehearsing your own pitches and talks, one deck at a time.
  • Choose Gamma if your job is recurring decks for many clients or segments, produced by a workflow or an agent and checked by a person.

When the hard part turns out to be the run itself, deciding which row counts as final, who signs off and where the link goes, the agentic marketing work I sell is built for setting that up. The Decktopus entry covers its plans.

FAQ

Can Zapier edit a gamma after creating it?

No. Gamma's connectors article says Zapier and Make can create but not edit; n8n has Edit and Get Edit Status operations (connectors article).

Does Decktopus have an API?

Its documented route for agents is a remote MCP server for Claude and other MCP clients (MCP guide). No REST API was documented on the pages read on 26 October 2026.

Which Gamma plan includes API access?

The developer documentation says API keys are available on all plans, including Free, with plan limits on cards per gamma and on analytics (access and pricing). The help centre's plan list still names API access under Pro (plans article), so confirm in your account settings.
