ExactMetrics vs MonsterInsights: One Owner, Two Top Tiers

The short answer: consider ExactMetrics if you are an agency putting GA4 on client WordPress sites, because its Agency licence covers 25 sites for $399.50 in the first year and $799.00 at each renewal; consider MonsterInsights if you run your own site or store and want surveys and heatmaps beside the reports, which its Elite licence adds on 5 sites for $299.50, then $599.00 (checked on 26 October 2026 on the ExactMetrics and MonsterInsights pricing pages). Below those top tiers the choice barely matters: both sites name MonsterInsights, LLC in their footers, the same general manager signs both guarantees, Plus and Pro cost the same on both, and their feature lists differ by a line.

This pairing is not one people search for. It is here because each plugin's closest documented alternative is the other one.

Who should look at which:

  1. Agencies with more than five client sites. For example, 12 sites on MonsterInsights Pro take three five-site licences: 3 x $199.50 = $598.50 in the first year and 3 x $399.00 = $1,197.00 a year after. One ExactMetrics Agency licence covers all 12 for $399.50, then $799.00, using the ExactMetrics and MonsterInsights pricing pages.
  2. Sites that already run one of them. Stay put. Both FAQs (ExactMetrics, MonsterInsights) say a second Google Analytics plugin interferes with tracking and skews the data, so this is a choice of one, and the reports you have now come from the same GA4 property either way.
  3. Anyone switching. The measure is one tag in the page source and an unbroken line in GA4's daily users across the switch week. Anything else means a tag was left behind or doubled.

Same and different, line by line

What separates them

The top of the range

The eCommerce and form conversion reports and the PPC tracking integrations sit on Pro in both ranges, at the same price. The ranges split above Pro. MonsterInsights spends the third tier on the visitor's voice: UserFeedback Elite brings no-code heatmaps, NPS reporting, comment boxes and surveys, per its pricing page. ExactMetrics spends it on site count: 25 sites with site management on Agency, and a 100-site option at $699.50 for the first year, per its pricing page.

Who owns them

Both footers read MonsterInsights, LLC, and ExactMetrics' terms of service say that its site is owned and operated by MonsterInsights, LLC. Both pricing pages close with a guarantee signed by Zach Kwarta, as general manager of each. Awesome Motive, the WordPress plugin company, says on its about page that it is behind MonsterInsights; its homepage brand list did not include ExactMetrics when read on 26 October 2026, so the tie between the two is documented through MonsterInsights, LLC, not through Awesome Motive's own list.

Reach and history

MonsterInsights lists 2+ million active installations on wordpress.org against 200,000+ for ExactMetrics, and ExactMetrics' upgrade guide still covers upgrading from Google Analytics Dashboard for WP, the name its wordpress.org address carries. The install count measures reach, not a different product.

Renewals, on both cards

Both pricing pages carry the same footnote: special introductory pricing, with every renewal at full price, and both FAQs say the licence renews automatically each year at the current renewal price. Over three years, Pro costs $199.50 + $399.00 + $399.00 = $997.50 on either site, worked from the ExactMetrics and MonsterInsights cards checked on 26 October 2026. Budget from that figure, not from the first one.

The AI assistant does not decide it

AI Chat and AI Charlie answer plain-English questions from your connected GA4 data, with the same monthly credits per tier and the same pause when credits run out until the next calendar month or a top-up, per the ExactMetrics and MonsterInsights guides. Use it for the switch, if you make one. The day before, ask the assistant for last week's top landing pages and save the answer; a week after, ask again. A person then checks the page source for a single tag and compares the two answers with GA4's own landing page report before anyone reads a change in traffic into them.

Try both free, then buy one

The Lite plugins are free on wordpress.org and connect to GA4 the same way. Install the one whose top tier you are more likely to need, never both at once, and run it for a month. If you never miss a Pro report, Lite plus GA4 is the whole answer.

Running two brands from one price list means a buyer comparing them is comparing one company's two shop fronts: whichever wins, the first-year fee and every renewal go to MonsterInsights, LLC. That is fine to know, and it is why the only real question is which top tier you will grow into.

Choose ExactMetrics if

  • You manage GA4 for more than five WordPress sites, and one 25-site or 100-site licence replaces several Pro licences.
  • You want site management for those client sites, which the Agency card lists and the Elite card does not.

Choose MonsterInsights if

  • You run one business on up to five sites and want heatmaps, NPS and surveys from UserFeedback Elite.
  • You value the larger install base and the custom dashboards its Plus card lists.

FAQ

Is ExactMetrics part of Awesome Motive?

What the pages state is narrower. ExactMetrics' footer and terms name MonsterInsights, LLC, and Awesome Motive's about page names MonsterInsights among its products; ExactMetrics is not on Awesome Motive's homepage brand list.

Will switching from one to the other lose my data?

No, if GA4 stays connected. ExactMetrics' upgrade guide explains that historical data is stored in your Google Analytics property, not in the plugin, so the history stays where it was when the plugin changes.

Can I run both to compare them?

No. Both FAQs advise removing any other Google Analytics plugin first, because two plugins interfere with tracking and skew the data, per the MonsterInsights FAQ.
