Flodesk vs Kit: Designed Emails and Checkout, or Sequences

The short answer: if your brand sells a course, a template pack or a membership from a sales page and wants every email to look designed, Flodesk bundles the checkout, sales pages and abandoned cart emails into its Everything plan, $54 a month for 1,000 subscribers on monthly billing (Flodesk pricing). If your business runs on sequences, tags and connected apps, and you want an AI assistant working in the account, Kit is built for that, with its MCP server on the paid Creator and Creator Pro plans (Kit MCP docs).

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Kit's pricing page and help centre returned a security check on 26 October 2026 instead of their content, so no Kit price appears below. Kit's developer documentation loaded normally and is the source for what Kit does here.

Before you choose on looks:

  1. Price the jump to checkout. At 2,500 subscribers on monthly billing, Flodesk Pro costs $39 and Everything $87, so the checkout, sales pages and payment plans cost $48 a month, or $576 a year (Flodesk pricing). Compare that with what your current checkout tool and its fees cost you now.
  2. List the sequences and tags you already run. Export them from your current tool. Kit is organised around sequences, each a set of automated emails with its own schedule, and broadcasts targeted by tag or segment (sequences reference). On Flodesk, Lite carries one workflow as a limited-time bonus and Pro unlocks unlimited workflows.
  3. Choose the figure the change should move. Sales page visitors who buy, if checkout is the reason; click rate on your launch emails, if design is. Note the current number before you rebuild.

Where the choice is made

A free plan for building, not sending

Flodesk's free plan includes forms, landing pages, designer templates and segmentation, and marks email sending as not included (Flodesk pricing). It is a place to grow a list before the first paid month, not a way to run a newsletter. Plan the first paid tier into the budget from the day you launch the form.

Design is Flodesk's product

Flodesk's homepage is about the editor: custom fonts uploaded into the editor, your brand palette inside it, layouts that need no outside design software, and polls embedded in emails to segment readers by response (Flodesk). Kit's documentation points the other way, toward structure: sequences with send days and hours, tag and segment targeting, and broadcasts that can also be published to the web (broadcast reference).

Selling inside the tool, or alongside it

Everything turns Flodesk into the shop: unlimited integrated checkouts, sales pages and funnels, subscriptions and payment plans, and abandoned cart automations (pricing). Kit's purchases API records orders from your e-commerce platform against the buyer's subscriber record, so a store elsewhere can feed Kit's targeting (purchases reference). One model keeps everything in one bill; the other keeps your store where it is.

For Kit, open its pricing page, enter the same list size and note which plan includes the sequences and the MCP access you need.

Letting an agent maintain the sequences

Kit's MCP server maps every endpoint of its v4 API to a tool an assistant can call, after the creator signs in through OAuth (Kit MCP). A practical job: ask the assistant to list your sequences, read the emails in the launch sequence in order, and draft a new third email that answers the most common objection, using the documented sequence email tools. Reading runs without prompts; anything that sends or deletes needs your explicit confirmation in supporting clients, according to the same page. The person who owns the launch reads the new email in place, checks its delay against the others, and only then switches it on.

Flodesk's pages list Zapier on the homepage and an API row in the plan comparison, and no AI connector (Flodesk, pricing).

The free steps

Start with what costs nothing. Build the sign-up form and landing page on Flodesk's free plan and see whether the editor matches your brand. Read Kit's developer docs on sequences and the MCP server, then its pricing page, to see whether the plan with MCP fits your budget. Only then pay for a month of the one that won.

Two lines on Flodesk's plan cards read "limited time bonus": one workflow on Lite and one checkout on Pro. A bonus with a time limit is there to make the lower plan feel complete. Decide on what each plan lists without it, because the bonus may not be there at renewal.

Choose Flodesk if your job is

  • Sending emails where the design carries the brand.
  • Selling courses, products or memberships from sales pages with built-in checkout.
  • Recovering abandoned carts without a separate store tool.

Choose Kit if your job is

  • Running several automated sequences targeted by tags and segments.
  • Connecting creator apps from the Kit App Store, or orders from your own store.
  • Handing routine account work to an AI assistant, with sends gated by confirmation.
