GemPages vs Shogun: Page Count or Test Depth

The short answer: for a Shopify store under $20,000 of monthly revenue, with 20 published pages and one split test running, the two cost the same, $78 a month; past 25 pages Shogun's price jumps to $199 for the builder alone, while GemPages stays at $29 for unlimited pages (GemPages pricing, GemX pricing, Shogun pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). So a Shopify store that publishes a page per campaign belongs on GemPages. Shogun earns its price elsewhere: on BigCommerce, where its $39 Build plan already includes A/B testing for up to 2,000 monthly tracked users, and for teams that want checkout tests and an AI connector on the testing side.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Three checks first:

  1. Find the page where the price steps. For example, Shogun's Build plan publishes 25 pages for $39, and the 26th page needs Grow at $199 (Shogun pricing). GemPages has no such step between Build and Optimize: both publish without a cap (GemPages pricing). Count your live pages and the ones planned for the next sale.
  2. Look at what you test today. If the answer is nothing, neither testing bill is due yet. If it is your existing product template, Shogun's testing app can test the theme you already run; GemPages tests through GemX, a separate app (GemX article).
  3. Write down the decision rule before the first test. Orders per visitor on the tested page, the minimum run, and who calls it. Without that, a testing app produces charts, not decisions.

The two apps, line by line

From the GemPages pricing page, GemX pricing, the GemPages MCP page, and Shogun's page builder and A/B testing pricing.

What separates them

Page count against testing depth

GemPages sells features by tier and leaves page count open. Shogun sells page count by tier, 25 or unlimited, and sells testing depth in a second app: Pro at $39 runs three active tests of pages, split URLs, templates and themes; Advanced at $119 adds product detail tests, audiences and the MCP connection; Unlimited at $499 adds price tests and checkout block tests (Shogun A/B pricing).

Where price testing sits

This line is easy to miss. GemX's pricing page lists testing prices, without Shopify Plus, among the features every GemX plan includes, and its plans start at $49 a month for stores under $20,000 of monthly revenue (GemX pricing). Shogun keeps price tests for its $499 Unlimited testing plan. If price is the question you most want answered, GemX reaches it on the cheaper bill.

BigCommerce

GemPages builds for Shopify. Shogun also builds for BigCommerce, and there the builder price includes testing and personalization: 2,000 monthly tracked users on Build at $39, 10,000 on Grow and 50,000 on Advanced (Shogun pricing, BigCommerce tab). A tracked user is each unique shopper who visits a page with an active test or personalised experience in a month, per the same page's FAQ.

US dollars on monthly billing, from the GemPages, GemX and Shogun pricing pages; GemX figures are for the $0 to $20,000 monthly revenue band. Shogun's page builder saves 20% on annual billing. GemPages no longer sells yearly plans to new customers and carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.

An AI step before the page exists: research from your reviews

GemPages MCP has three jobs, and the first is content research: it analyses product information, customer reviews, competitor positioning, objections and buyer language to suggest content directions (MCP introduction). In Claude Desktop, add a custom connector named GemCommerce MCP with the address https://mcp.gemcommerce.com, then confirm it with the one-time code from GemPages Preferences, MCP (MCP page). Ask it for the five objections in your top product's reviews and the exact phrases buyers use.

The human check is a person holding the output against the source. Every objection the agent lists should trace to real reviews, and any phrase that is going to become a headline should be one a customer wrote, not one the model smoothed. The research is a brief for the copywriter, not copy. Access is rolling out from a waitlist.

Test for free first

Build the page twice: once on GemPages' free plan, which publishes one page with no card, and once in Shogun's Draft Mode, which publishes none but lets you try the editor and templates (Shogun pricing). Publish the GemPages version, point one ad at it, and compare orders per visitor with your current page in Shopify's reports. Shogun's A/B Testing app then gives you a 14-day trial if you want the comparison run as a proper split.

GemPages' pricing page currently carries a banner taking 20% off the first three months (GemPages pricing); the figure to budget against is the list price on the plan card, because that is what month four costs.

Choose GemPages if your job is

  • Publishing a new landing page, advertorial or listicle for most campaigns.
  • Testing prices on a Shopify store without paying for a top-tier testing plan.
  • Bringing HTML or AI-drafted pages into an editor your team already uses.

Choose Shogun if your job is

  • Running a BigCommerce store, where testing comes with the builder.
  • Testing checkout blocks, product details and audiences on Shopify.
  • Letting Claude or ChatGPT set up and report on tests through Shogun's MCP.

FAQ

Can Shogun's testing app test pages built in GemPages?

Its Pro plan lists split URL testing (Shogun A/B pricing), which pairs two existing pages and redirects traffic from the original to the variant (test types article), so a page from any builder can be one side of the test. GemX can also test a Shopify page against a page from another builder (GemX pricing).

What is Shogun's Draft Mode?

A free page builder plan that creates drafts and publishes no pages (Shogun pricing). It is for trying the editor, not for running a store.

Do I pay GemPages a commission?

Only on post-purchase upsell revenue on Optimize; the free and Build plans cap upsell revenue at $100 a month, and Enterprise at $199 charges no commission (GemPages pricing).
