The short answer: nothing is spent yet, so this is the cheapest moment to find out that the ad and the page disagree. If you are about to put budget behind one ad, AdAlign's free audit is all you need. It gives one overall score with no sign-up at all. A free account adds the four-part breakdown and its fixes on up to 5 audits a month, no card, per the audit page. The steps: choose the ad carrying the most budget, copy its exact destination URL and capture the creative as people see it. Run the audit with the right platform selected. Read the lowest of the four sub-scores, change that one thing, and score the pair again.

Disclosure: I earn a commission if you buy AdAlign through a link on this page, and this page recommends it. Every claim about AdAlign links to AdAlign's own pages.

Before you upload anything:

  1. What free buys. Five scored pairs a month on a free account, per the audit page. For example, a launch of 12 new ads gets 5 checked this month. Rank the 12 by planned budget and audit the top 5. The other 7 wait, or get the by-hand check below.
  2. What you already have. The ad sits in Ads Manager or Google Ads. A live Meta ad also appears in the Meta Ad Library, which holds every active ad and which anyone can search.
  3. What you will compare. One row in a sheet per pair, with the four sub-scores filled in before the fix and after it. How it works puts strong alignment above 7, and starts counting spend at risk below 5.

The connected product is covered in the AdAlign glossary entry. This page stays with the part that costs nothing.

Three free tools and what each takes

ToolYou give itYou get backSign-up
Free auditThe landing page URL, then an ad image, a video URL or the platform's ad link, for Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn or RedditOverall score; with an account, four sub-scores, an element-by-element comparison and prioritised fixesNone for the overall score, a free account for the rest
Ad RoastAn ad URL or a link to a screenshot, plus the landing page URLA shareable report with specific fixesListed as free; no account mentioned
Meta Ad AnalyzerThe same two inputs, set up for Facebook and Instagram feed, Stories and ReelsAlignment scores and recommendationsNone for the first analysis

All three were read on 27 October 2026. Pick the audit for any platform. Pick the Roast when the result has to reach a colleague as a link, and the analyzer when the ad is a Meta placement.

Step 1: Choose the pair with the most money on it

One ad, one page. If the campaign has a hero ad and five small tests, the tests are tempting and the hero is where the money is. Start with the hero. A mismatch on the ad taking most of the budget costs most, and that is the order AdAlign's own audit guide uses when it ranks flagged pairs by spend.

Step 2: Copy the destination exactly

The audit form wants the exact link from the ad. Not your homepage. On Meta, export the ads from Ads Manager and read the Link column, one of the ad-level export columns. On Google, the landing pages page lists the pages your ads sent traffic to, with a View expanded landing pages option under each. If a page shows up there that you never chose, audit that one as well.

You did not pick it. It took the clicks anyway.

Step 3: Capture the ad the way it ran

Take a screenshot of the whole ad, text included, as PNG, JPG, GIF or WebP. AdAlign's own pages disagree on the upload limit. The form on the home page says up to 5MB, and the FAQ says 10MB for manual uploads (both read on 27 October 2026). Stay under 5MB and the disagreement stops mattering. For video, paste the URL instead. AdAlign extracts key frames and transcribes the spoken audio, which takes longer than an image.

Step 4: Run it with the platform set

Paste the page first, then the ad, then choose the platform. The weights follow the platform: Google leans on message match, TikTok on tone, and Meta and LinkedIn balance visual and message, per the audit FAQ. Pick the wrong one and you get a careful score for a platform you are not running on. An image ad takes about 60 seconds end to end.

Step 5: Read it from the weakest dimension up

Ignore the headline number for a minute. The useful line is the lowest sub-score, and the element comparison beneath it: the ad's value, the page's value, and whether they match. The audit page ranks the fixes by conversion impact. Brief the first one.

Step 6: Change one thing and score the pair again

Make the single change the weakest dimension asks for. Usually that is a page headline, or an offer moved above the fold. Then run the same ad and page again. The second run uses another of your five, and the sheet now shows whether that one change moved that one sub-score.

The by-hand check for the ads that wait

For the ads without a free slot this month, AdAlign's audit guide describes the manual version. Open the ad and the page on a phone, and mark each dimension pass or flag with a one-line note.

  • Visual: the page shows the product and the look of the ad.
  • Message: it repeats the headline, the offer and the call to action.
  • Above the fold: the promise is visible before you scroll.
  • Tone: it sounds like the ad.

A flag on either of the middle two earns that ad one of next month's free audits.

The same scorer, called by a script

The developers page says a request sent without an API key runs anonymously, at 1 evaluation per IP address a month. One. That is enough for a script or an agent to score one pre-launch pair and drop the result into a ticket:

curl -X POST https://app.adalign.io/api/analyze-ad \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"adData": {"imageUrl": "https://example.com/ad.png", "platform": "meta"},
       "landingPageData": {"url": "https://example.com/landing"}}'

The human check stays the same as in the browser. A person reads the reasoning for each sub-score before anyone edits a page or an ad. The script reports. It never changes anything.

Where the free audit stops

It scores one pair at a time and sees no spend, so it cannot tell you which of your pages costs most. Nor does it come back tomorrow to check whether the page changed. Who on your team would notice if it had?

AdAlign's terms ask you to submit only ads and pages you have the right to analyse. On data, the audit FAQ says the page URL is kept with your evaluation history and nothing is shared with third parties. The main FAQ says ad content is stored and used, anonymised, for industry benchmarks.

The free tier is real, and it is useful. It is also cut exactly where a sales funnel would cut it. The overall score costs nothing. The breakdown that says what to change costs an email address. And the pricing FAQ sends every paid account through a call, so the free audit is also how AdAlign meets its buyers.

After the free score

For a single launch, five free audits a month and the by-hand rerun are enough on their own. Run the free audit on your top ad today. The case for paying starts when more pairs need checking than five a month allow, or when the pages change after launch. Then AdAlign, which pays me a commission, scores every live Meta and Google ad against its page in a 30-day paid pilot, booked from the demo page. How to use AdAlign covers that connected route.

FAQ

Do I need an account?

Not for the overall score. The breakdown, the element comparison and the fixes need a free account, which includes 5 audits a month with history, per the audit page.

How long does one audit take?

About a minute for an image ad, says the audit FAQ. Video takes longer, because the frames are extracted and the audio transcribed before scoring.

Can I audit a TikTok, LinkedIn or Reddit ad?

Yes. The free audit accepts Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn and Reddit ads, each with its own weighting.
