Jotform vs Docusign: Forms That End in a Signature

The short answer: when the signature is the last step of a form your marketing team already runs, such as a creator application or a sponsor sign-up, Jotform is the cheaper fit: Bronze gives one user 25 forms and 100 signed documents a month for $39 billed monthly, or $34 a month billed yearly, while Docusign only adds web forms on Business Pro, at $45 per user a month on a 12-month commitment with 100 envelopes per user per year (both checked on 26 October 2026 on the Jotform pricing page and Docusign's eSignature plans). Choose Docusign when the agreement is the job rather than the form: legal owns the template, many people across the company send contracts, or an EU contract needs a qualified electronic signature, which Docusign sells as an add-on.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Three numbers before either trial:

  1. Signatures a year, priced both ways. For example, a team signing 30 creator contracts a month sends 30 x 12 = 360 envelopes a year. One Docusign Business Pro seat includes 100, so 360 - 100 = 260 would be billed pay-as-you-go, at a per-envelope rate the plans page does not print. On Jotform Bronze, 30 a month sits inside the 100 signed documents the pricing page allows, with 70 to spare.
  2. The PDF you already send. Both tools start from it. Jotform Sign turns an existing PDF into a signable document, per the Jotform Sign page, and Docusign's Web Forms page says its Iris AI converts PDFs and templates into web forms.
  3. Days from submission to signature. Take last month's figure from your inbox before you switch anything. That is the number the new setup has to beat, whichever vendor runs it.

The two products meet in the middle from opposite ends. Jotform is a form builder whose submissions can flow into an approval and a signed document. Docusign is a signing platform that offers forms on its upper plans. Where your process starts decides most of this.

The differences that decide it

Which end of the process you own

Marketing teams usually own the form and borrow the contract. Jotform fits that shape: the application, a yes or no from the marketing lead and the signature request live on one account, and Jotform Workflows routes a submission through approvals before anything is signed. Docusign fits the opposite shape, where legal or sales own a library of agreements and a form is the way to pre-fill one; its Web Forms page says form data flows straight into the agreement because the forms are built into eSignature.

What gets counted, and when

Jotform resets a monthly allowance of signed documents. Docusign's annual plans hand each user 100 envelopes for the year, and its FAQ on the plans page says monthly plans carry up to 10 per user per month instead. A seasonal campaign that sends 80 contracts in October fits a Jotform Bronze month; on one Docusign annual seat it uses 80 of the year's 100 in four weeks.

Signature level on EU contracts

Docusign's QES page describes it as a registered Qualified Trust Service Provider and sells qualified signatures as an add-on, with identity proofing before the certificate is issued. Jotform's Sign page explains what a qualified signature is, and its plan page lists no qualified option. If your lawyer says a contract needs that level, that contract goes to Docusign. The three eIDAS levels are set out with the law in the SignWell vs Docusign comparison.

Prices side by side

Checked on 26 October 2026 on the Jotform pricing page and Docusign's eSignature plans, in USD. Jotform's yearly column is the monthly rate when billed for a year; Docusign's figures are its "Annual, billed monthly" option, a 12-month commitment paid in instalments.

Metered extras sit on top: SMS delivery from $0.36 each and identity verification from $2.40 per attempt, for Standard and Business Pro, per the Docusign plans page.

One signing step done from a chat

Jotform Sign is listed in ChatGPT and Claude, and the Jotform Sign page says the Claude version prepares the document you describe, routes it to stakeholders and chases signatures. Start it from the approved PDF, not from a prompt: ask for a signing request for this month's three approved creators, creator first and you second. A person opens the draft in Jotform Sign, checks the fields against the approved contract and the signers against the approval list, and only then lets it route. The agent saves clicks; it decides nothing anyone signs.

Free first, and the meter behind the price

The free test is Jotform's Starter plan: build the real form, attach the real PDF, and run your next ten contracts through it, which is the monthly allowance on the pricing page. If the flow holds, Bronze is the only upgrade the volume above needs. On Docusign, the FAQ on the plans page lets a new subscriber cancel within 30 days without penalty, so a paid month can serve as the trial if you diarise the date.

Then watch the meter. Docusign counts an envelope the moment it is sent, whether or not anyone signs it, and charges the ones beyond the allowance at a per-envelope rate the plan page does not show, so every corrected resend and every contract a creator lets lapse is paid for by the sender. Track voided envelopes for a month before you size the seat count.

Choose Jotform if your job is

  • Turning applications, registrations or sign-ups into signed agreements, with an approval in between.
  • Signing up to 100 documents a month from one account without per-seat pricing.
  • Collecting a payment in the same form as the signature.

Choose Docusign if your job is

  • Sending contracts that legal or sales own, from several people, with templates shared across a team.
  • Signing EU agreements at the qualified level through a trust service provider.
  • Pre-filling agreements from a web form inside an organisation already standardised on Docusign.

FAQ

Do the people signing need a Docusign account?

No. The FAQ on Docusign's plans page says recipients review the document, adopt a signature and complete signing without an account, from an email sent by dse@docusign.net.

Can Jotform hold the contract until someone approves the application?

Yes. A workflow can place an approval before the Sign Document step, so the contract goes out only after a yes; Jotform Workflows describes approvals and conditions, and the Jotform how-to builds that exact flow.

Does a voided Docusign envelope still count?

Yes. Docusign's FAQ states that an envelope counts toward the allowance once it is sent, whether or not it is signed or completed, per the plans page.
