The short answer: if you sell stickers, posters and T-shirts through Printify, Printful or Etsy and want an assistant to draft the product for you, Playground fits the job from $12 a month billed annually, and even its free plan lists a world-wide, royalty-free licence (Playground pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). If the products must look like one brand across a team, with vector editing, mockups and seats for several editors, Kittl Pro at $14 a month billed annually covers up to 500,000 copies under its commercial licence (Kittl pricing). Choose Playground if your job is idea to listing, fast. Choose Kittl if your job is a brand's product visuals.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Playground now lives at playgroundai.com; the old playground.com address forwards there, and the product is the same AI design studio for logos, stickers, merch and posters. Both tools sit between an image model and a product. They part on rights, on where the work lands, and on how many people touch the brand.

What decides it:

  1. The first sale, priced. For example, a seller who needs commercial rights from the first sticker pays nothing on Playground Free and 12 x $14 = $168 a year on Kittl Pro billed annually, because Kittl's free plan is for personal use only (Kittl pricing FAQ, Playground pricing).
  2. Where your shop and brand already live. If the listings sit in Printify, Printful or Etsy, Playground's connector reaches them (Playground MCP). If the brand lives in a style guide that three people apply, Kittl's paid plans apply it across designs automatically (Kittl pricing).
  3. Sales per design, not designs per month. Tag every listing with the tool that made it and read the orders after 60 days. A tool that makes twice the designs and sells none of them is the expensive one.

Three places they part

Where the licence starts

Playground lists commercial use on all three plans, Free included, and its FAQ says you own the images you create and may use them commercially as long as you follow its terms (pricing). Kittl keeps commercial rights for paying plans: its free card mentions a licence, while its own FAQ and free plan article restrict free designs to personal use, and the restriction is the reading to work from. Ownership is half the question. Playground's terms make assets publicly viewable and remixable by default and give Playground a perpetual licence to use them; check the visibility setting before a design for a client goes in. Keep a rights line for each picture you sell; the graphics use case shows the column.

Where the work lands

Playground's connector links Etsy, Printify, Printful and RankHero, so a chat can end in a draft listing or an unpublished product (Playground MCP). Kittl's connector works inside your Kittl account: it generates images and video, removes backgrounds, upscales or vectorizes, runs workflows and reports the token balance (connector article). The file is the end of Kittl's route; the shop is the end of Playground's.

How many people hold the brand

Kittl prices editors and lets viewers in free, and its paid plans apply your brand across designs and assets (pricing). Playground's terms require a unique account for each person. A solo seller does not feel that rule. A three-person merch team does.

What a year costs

On annual billing Playground Pro is $144 and Pro Plus $432, each charged once for the year (Playground pricing). Kittl's annual totals follow from its per-month rates: 12 x $14 = $168 for Pro and 12 x $39 = $468 for Expert, per editor (Kittl pricing). Month to month, the gap is $4 between the two Pro plans and $4 between Expert and Pro Plus.

One agent step: a tote bag drafted in Printify

Playground documents this sequence on its Printify page. Link Printify in Playground's Connectors, add the server at https://playgroundai.com/mcp in Claude or ChatGPT and sign in. Then ask for the product: "turn this floral design into a tote bag". The assistant searches the Printify catalog, picks a print provider and variants, generates or edits the artwork, uploads it to your media library and creates an unpublished product. Generation draws on your Playground credits (Playground MCP).

Publishing is a separate request, and the check goes in between. A person opens the draft in Printify and confirms three things: the artwork's dimensions fit the selected print area, the variants and colours are the ones you sell, and the title and price are yours. Then they read the artwork itself for misspelt text and for any echo of a known character or logo, which Playground's terms forbid prompting for. Only then does the assistant get the instruction to publish.

The agent's running meter

Kittl's Creative Agent decides how to handle each request as it goes, and its help article says it cannot show the cost of a full request before it runs (Creative Agent article). The default, then, is to spend tokens first and read the balance afterwards, and tokens left at the end of a billing cycle do not carry over (Kittl pricing FAQ). Ask for one option at a time and check the balance between requests.

Test on the free plans first

Run one throwaway product idea through Playground Free, which allows 2 downloads a day (pricing), and the same idea through Kittl Free, which keeps 5 projects and exports at 800px (free plan article). Judge the two results on the screen that matters, the listing thumbnail, before you pay for either.

Choose Kittl if your job is a brand's product visuals made by more than one person: vector logos, labels, mockups and listing sets that must look related.

Choose Playground if your job is turning ideas into print-on-demand products quickly, from a chat that reaches your Printify, Printful or Etsy shop.

FAQ

Does Playground's free plan allow commercial use?

Its pricing page lists a world-wide, royalty-free licence on Free, Pro and Pro Plus, and its FAQ says you own the images you create. The terms add that assets may be public and remixable by default.

Can Kittl publish to my Etsy shop?

Not through its connector. The connector article lists image and video generation, file organisation, background removal, upscaling, vectorizing, workflows and the token balance, and no store publishing.

Does Playground have an API?

On request. Its pricing FAQ says it works with select partners, prioritising those whose users will generate more than 1,000,000 images a month, and Pro Plus lists API access through a request form (Playground pricing).
