Livestorm vs Zoom: Attendee Credits Against Attendee Slots

The short answer: both vendors now sell webinars by the attendee, and at 1,000 attendees a year Zoom prints the lower number: a Webinars Plus pay-per-attendee pack of 1,000 slots costs $1,500 for 12 months, against $2,900 or €2,400 for Livestorm's 1,000 credits (Zoom events pricing, Livestorm plans). Zoom's pack also needs a Zoom Workplace Pro seat for the host, $14.16 a month billed annually (Zoom Workplace pricing). Livestorm earns its premium for a European team that runs frequent sessions with colleagues in the room, wants attendees to join from a browser in their own language, and wants an assistant to run events through its MCP server (Livestorm pricing). Before you size a pack:
- Price the same year on both. For example, 1,000 attendee-sessions: Zoom is $1,500 for the Webinars Plus pack plus $14.16 x 12 = $169.92 for the host's seat, $1,669.92 in all; Livestorm is $2,900 (Zoom events pricing, Zoom Workplace pricing, Livestorm plans). The gap is $1,230.08 a year, and the rest of this page is about whether Livestorm's terms are worth it.
- List what your Zoom contract already covers. If the company runs on Zoom Workplace, the host seat is paid already. Zoom's FAQ adds that annual Webinars Plus and Events plans include a standard Zoom Webinars licence, while pay-per-attendee packs do not (Zoom events pricing).
- Count last year's attendees the way each vendor will. Livestorm counts each person once per session, and someone who joins live and later watches that session's replay is still one credit (Livestorm plans). Write down how many of last year's attendees were colleagues: that number matters below.
Pack sizes, printed prices
| Attendee-sessions a year | Livestorm Pro | Zoom Webinars Plus, pay per attendee | Zoom Events, pay per attendee |
|---|---|---|---|
| 400 | €1,000 or $1,200 | Smallest pack is 600 | Smallest pack is 600 |
| 600 | 1,000 pack needed | $1,002 | $1,200 |
| 1,000 | €2,400 or $2,900 | $1,500 | $1,850 |
| 3,000 | 4,000 pack needed, €8,000 or $9,600 | $4,200 | $5,250 |
| 5,000 | Enterprise, quoted | $6,500 | $8,250 |
| Also needed | Nothing | Zoom Workplace Pro for the host | Zoom Workplace Pro for the host |

What separates them
Who uses up a slot
Livestorm states plainly that workspace members never consume credits, whether they host, rehearse or sit in on a session (Livestorm plans). For a team that brings sales and product colleagues into every customer webinar, that is real money. Zoom's FAQ describes a pack as attendee slots used across all events within 12 months of purchase, so a 1,000-slot pack covers one event of 1,000 or ten of 100, with an extra charge for each attendee beyond the pack (Zoom events pricing).
Browser and language, or size and length
Livestorm runs in the browser with nothing to install, translates the registration page, emails and room into 24 languages, and describes itself on its homepage as EU-hosted and ISO 27001 certified; choosing the video hosting region is a paid add-on (Livestorm pricing, Livestorm homepage). Zoom works at a scale Livestorm does not sell on Pro: sessions up to 30 hours, up to 100,000 attendees and up to 1,000 video panelists, against Livestorm Pro's 4 hours and 3,000 live attendees per event (Zoom events pricing, Livestorm pricing).
What happens on the last credit
On Livestorm Pro, alerts arrive as the quota nears, and once it is used up new attendees cannot join until you move to a higher tier; unused credits do not carry into the next year (Livestorm plans). Zoom's FAQ instead adds an extra charge for each attendee over the pack (Zoom events pricing). One stops the room; the other sends a bill.
Read the rival's answer about the rival
Livestorm's pricing FAQ asks how it differs from Zoom's pay-per-attendee model and answers that it is similar, "but with one key difference: Zoom charges for your team members, while Livestorm does not" (Livestorm pricing). Zoom's own FAQ describes its slots without saying either way whether a colleague in the room uses one (Zoom events pricing). A seller's account of a competitor is written to close its own deal, so put the team-member question to Zoom in writing and price your colleagues into its pack until Zoom answers.
One agent step: size next year's pack from last year's sessions
Livestorm's MCP server, available on every plan including Free, lets an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT list events and sessions and read attendance in plain language, with the same permissions as the user who connects it (Livestorm MCP). Ask it for every session of the past twelve months with its attendee count, the replay-only viewers on a separate line, and a total. The human check: compare that total with the usage counter under Account Settings, then Billing (Livestorm plans), and size the pack on the counter if the two disagree.
Doing the same count on Zoom takes two passes: its API returns webinar participant reports for the last 6 months only, and needs a Pro plan with the webinar add-on and the report:read:admin scope (Zoom API reference).
Which job each one wins
Choose Livestorm if your job is a steady European programme of webinars, demos and customer training where colleagues join freely, attendees join from a browser in their own language, and an assistant helps run the events.
Choose Zoom if your job is long or very large broadcasts inside a company that already pays for Zoom Workplace, bought as attendee slots at the lower printed price.
Running the first Livestorm webinar end to end is in how to run a Livestorm webinar that feeds HubSpot, with background in the Livestorm entry. Turning either tool's recordings into short clips is the webinar clips use case.
FAQ
Does a replay viewer use a Livestorm credit?
Yes, if they did not attend live: replay and on-demand viewing count like live attendance. Someone who attends live and then rewatches the same session is counted once (Livestorm plans).
How long do Zoom's attendee slots last?
Twelve months from the date of purchase, usable across all your events, per the Zoom events pricing FAQ.
Is there a free way to compare them?
Yes. Livestorm's free plan gives 30 attendee credits a year with 30-minute events, and Zoom Workplace Basic runs free 40-minute meetings for a rehearsal with colleagues (Livestorm plans, Zoom Workplace pricing).
