NeuronWriter vs Surfer: Price per Analysis or Team Workflow

The short answer: under 30 articles a month with one or two writers, you are buying analyses, not a platform, and NeuronWriter's Gold plan gives 75 a month with unlimited team members for $69 on monthly billing (NeuronWriter pricing). Surfer's Standard plan costs $119 for 30 documents and 3 seats (Surfer pricing). Surfer earns the difference when a larger team wants daily tracking of AI answers and a shared workflow in one place.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
The two do the same core thing. Each reads the pages that rank for your keyword, pulls out the terms and questions they share, and grades your draft against them. NEURONwriter, as the vendor styles it, sells that at a lower price per analysis. Surfer sells a team product around it.
Red flags before you buy:
- The headline plan is missing what you need. For example, NeuronWriter's $23 Bronze plan gives 25 analyses a month, but its plan page lists Search Console and WordPress integrations, team members and plagiarism checks as not available; they start on Gold at $69. Compare Gold with Surfer, not Bronze.
- You already have the drafts somewhere. If your writers work in Google Docs or WordPress, check which plan connects to it. NeuronWriter covers Google Docs, WordPress and Shopify through its Chrome extension on every plan and adds direct integrations from Gold, per its pricing page; Surfer adds WordPress and Google Docs from Standard, per its pricing page.
- Unused analyses are lost. NeuronWriter's limit resets each month and does not roll over, per its query FAQ. Size the tier to a normal month, because a quiet month's surplus does not carry forward to a busy one.
Start with a spreadsheet
Before either trial, write three numbers down: articles published per month over the last quarter, the people who touch a draft, and the CMS they publish to. Those three pick the tier on both price lists. Then run NeuronWriter's trial first, since it asks for no card, per its homepage. Surfer's trial needs billing details and converts after 7 days unless cancelled.
Point by point
| Point of comparison | NeuronWriter | Surfer |
|---|---|---|
| Analyses or documents a month | 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 by plan (pricing) | 10 on Discovery, 30 on Standard and Pro, unlimited within fair use on Peace of Mind (pricing) |
| People | Unlimited team members from Gold | Seats capped per plan, from 1 on Discovery to 10 on Peace of Mind |
| What the analysis reads | Top 30 competitor articles for NLP terms (NLP terms FAQ) | Pages ranking for up to 20 keywords per editor (editor guide) |
| How the draft is graded | Term usage ranges, colour coded from unused to overused | A 0 to 100 Content Score with an SEO part and an AI Search part |
| AI answer tracking | 5 to 20 AI-monitored questions by plan; an add-on from $9 a month | Standard: 25 prompts, refreshed weekly. Pro and Peace of Mind: 50 and 100, refreshed daily |
| Integrations | Search Console, WordPress, Shopify from Gold | WordPress, Google Docs from Standard; Contentful on Pro; Zapier on Peace of Mind |
| Agent access | API and MCP from Gold | MCP on Pro, Peace of Mind and AI Search Analytics |
| Trial and refund | 7 days on Gold terms, no card; refund on a first plan within 30 days | Pro for 7 days, then the chosen plan unless cancelled (trial article) |
Three differences worth paying for, or not
What one analysis costs
For example, Gold works out at $69 / 75 = $0.92 per analysis and Surfer Standard at $119 / 30 = $3.97 per document, both on monthly billing from the NeuronWriter and Surfer pricing pages. If the job is grading drafts and nothing else, that gap is the decision. A freelancer optimising 40 client articles a month fits Gold with room left, and the same volume on Surfer needs Peace of Mind at $359.
Seats against unlimited members
Surfer counts seats: 1 on Discovery, 3 on Standard, 5 on Pro and 10 on Peace of Mind, per its pricing page. NeuronWriter lists unlimited team members from Gold upward. For an agency that invites clients to review drafts, that difference grows with every client, though Surfer lists external collaboration links on every plan for sharing drafts outside the team.
Monitoring AI answers
Both now watch how AI answers mention a brand. NeuronWriter's AI-monitored questions run from 5 on Bronze to 20 on Diamond, with an add-on that raises the count and covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, from $9 a month on its pricing page. Surfer's Pro plan tracks 50 prompts daily across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI features, and reports mention gaps and sentiment, per its pricing page. If AI visibility is a reporting line for your board, Surfer's version is the fuller one.
The price list as read on 24 October 2026
| Tier | Billed monthly | Billed yearly | Analyses or documents a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| NeuronWriter Bronze | $23 | $230 a year | 25 |
| NeuronWriter Silver | $45 | $450 a year | 50 |
| NeuronWriter Gold | $69 | $690 a year | 75 |
| NeuronWriter Platinum | $93 | $930 a year | 100 |
| NeuronWriter Diamond | $117 | $1,170 a year | 150 |
| Surfer Discovery | $59 | $49 a month | 10 |
| Surfer Standard | $119 | $99 a month | 30 |
| Surfer Pro | $219 | $182 a month | 30 |
USD, from the NeuronWriter pricing page and the Surfer pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026. NeuronWriter shows yearly billing as a total for the year, and Surfer as a monthly figure billed yearly, so convert one before you compare.
NeuronWriter's trial runs on Gold terms, according to the FAQ on its pricing page. So the week you test is the week you see integrations and team features that the $23 Bronze plan does not include. That is how a trial is set up: to show the tier above the one you came for. Decide the tier from your article count, not from the trial.
An agent step NeuronWriter documents
NeuronWriter runs an MCP server that Claude and other MCP clients connect to with a sign-in, from Profile, MCP Server. Its MCP FAQ lists a tool that scores HTML content against a query's recommendations without saving a revision, and says creating a new analysis uses one analysis from the monthly limit while reading recommendations does not. A job that fits: the assistant takes a finished draft, scores it against the analysis and returns the terms and questions it misses. The writer then decides which of those belong in the piece, because a term list is evidence of what competitors wrote, not an instruction.
Choose NeuronWriter if your job is
- Optimising a steady volume of articles on a tight budget, solo or in a small agency.
- Inviting clients and freelancers into drafts without paying per head.
- Using your own OpenAI key for generation, which Gold and above allow.
Choose Surfer if your job is
- Running a content team with defined seats, version history and an activity log.
- Reporting on AI answer visibility alongside the writing work.
- Connecting the editor to Contentful or Zapier on the higher plans.

FAQ
Do unused NeuronWriter analyses carry over?
No. The query FAQ says the limit renews monthly and does not roll over to the next month.
Can a team share one NeuronWriter account?
From Gold. Bronze and Silver list read-only sharing; Gold and above add unlimited team members and content sharing with create and edit rights, per the Gold plan page.
Is there a cheaper Surfer plan for one writer?
Discovery, at $59 a month on monthly billing or $49 a month billed yearly, with 10 documents and 1 seat, per the Surfer pricing page.
