The short answer: if a marketing or HR team needs three to five explainer and promo videos a month from ready-made motion templates, Renderforest is the lighter bill: Pro is $39 a month on monthly billing, or $19 a month billed annually after a first-year sale price of $13.3, with HD1080 template export and 2,400 AI credits a month (Renderforest pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). If the explainers need your own animated characters, the kind built limb by limb, Animaker is the specialist, but plan on its Pro tier: commercial rights are listed only from Pro, at $79 a month or $516 a year (Animaker pricing). Choose Renderforest if your job is branded template videos, plus the odd logo or landing page. Choose Animaker if your job is character-led animated explainers.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

What settles it:

  1. Two years, not one. For example, Renderforest Pro billed annually costs 12 x $13.3 = $159.60 in the sale year and 12 x $19 = $228 after it, against $516 a year for Animaker Pro, per the Renderforest and Animaker pricing pages. Price the second year, since that is the one that renews.
  2. The downloads you make. Animaker's plan table lists 10 premium video downloads a month on Starter and 30 on Pro, with extras at $15 or $10 each (Animaker pricing). Count last quarter's finished videos, versions included.
  3. The characters you already have. A mascot or a cast of recurring characters points to Animaker's character builder (Animaker). A logo, colours and product shots point to Renderforest's templates.
  4. The update test. Time how long the last explainer took to change when the product did. The tool that shortens that is worth more than the one that makes the first version faster.

The two or three things that matter

A template you fill, or a character you build

Renderforest's library runs to explainer, whiteboard, mascot and business presentation toolkits made by motion designers, which you customise with text, colours, logo and music (Renderforest). Animaker's pitch is a character builder for brand characters, 1,800+ voices and AI subtitles in 130+ languages (Animaker). Templates are faster when the story fits one. Characters win when the same faces must appear in every training module.

What a month's output costs

Renderforest's plan table lists unlimited projects and duration on every paid plan and sets export quality by tier (Renderforest pricing). Animaker meters finished work: premium downloads per month, generative video seconds per month and AI asset credits (Animaker pricing). A team that exports many short versions for different channels feels Animaker's download count first.

Who may use the video, and how

Animaker's comparison table marks commercial rights for Pro and Enterprise only, and Enterprise adds reselling (Animaker pricing). Renderforest's homepage calls Pro the plan for commercial use and Business the one with a reseller licence, while its llms.txt summary says paid plans include commercial usage rights. Read Lite's terms before using it for client work; an agency belongs on Business either way.

Prices, monthly and annual

Renderforest, monthly billing: Lite $15, Pro $39, Business $59. Billed annually: Lite $9 a month; Pro $13.3 and Business $27.3 a month in the first year under a Halloween sale of 30% off, then $19 and $39 (Renderforest pricing). Animaker: Starter $45 a month or $300 a year; Pro $79 a month or $516 a year; Enterprise quoted (Animaker pricing). Both read on 26 October 2026. Renderforest's FAQ adds that annual plans are paid up front.

A monthly update video, rendered through the API

Renderforest publishes a REST API with Node.js and PHP SDKs, and recommends the SDKs because the API changes often (developer docs). Its method list covers what a scheduled job needs: duplicate a project, update its project data, render it and check the rendering status. A key comes from the dashboard on a plan with API access, test keys are given on request, and rendering needs an active subscription. There is no upload endpoint; images are referenced by URL.

So the job runs like this: once a month, a script or an agent with SDK access duplicates last month's product-update project, writes in the new headline and three feature lines from the release sheet, points the image slots at this month's screenshots, and renders. The human check: the product owner watches the render and approves it before anyone shares the link, because a template will display whatever text it is given. Animaker's AI works inside its app, from a prompt through a conversation to a draft you refine (Animaker); its pages read here document no API.

The plan the cards leave out

Animaker's plan cards begin at Starter, $45 a month, while the FAQ further down names a Basic plan at $15 a month that already removes the watermark (Animaker pricing). The cheapest paid door is described in text rather than shown as a card. Ask for Basic by name if watermark-free personal projects are all you need, and remember that commercial rights still start on Pro.

Free versions, one script

Renderforest has a free plan with watermarked exports at limited resolution, per its llms.txt summary; Animaker's free plan creates and downloads watermarked videos with a limited set of premium assets (Animaker pricing). Write a 45-second explainer script, build it once from a Renderforest explainer toolkit and once in Animaker with a custom character, and show both to two people from the audience it is meant for.

Choose Renderforest if

  • Your job is branded promos, intros and explainers from templates, a few a month.
  • You also need a logo pack, mockups or a simple site and want one subscription.
  • The second-year price matters more than a character cast.

Choose Animaker if

  • Your job is character-led explainers, training or onboarding videos where the same characters recur.
  • Subtitles and voices across many languages matter.
  • You budget for Pro, where commercial rights begin.

The Renderforest entry covers its plans and credits. Animaker has no entry; animaker.com is its own reference.

FAQ

Can I buy a single Renderforest export instead of a plan?

Yes. The pricing page sells one HD1080 video export for $24, a logo pack with SVG files for $29 and a mockup for $5 (Renderforest pricing).

How long can an Animaker video be?

15 minutes on Starter and 30 on Pro; Enterprise lists unlimited length (Animaker pricing).

Does Renderforest's AI use the same credits as templates?

The AI credits pay for generated video and images; the plan table lists template projects as unlimited, with export quality set by plan (Renderforest pricing).
