The short answer: below 100 responses a month you would pay Typeform $39 a month, or $28 billed yearly, for features Tally gives away: Tally's free plan includes payment, file upload and signature questions that Typeform's free plan keeps for paid accounts, and puts no meter on submissions below the 50,000 a month its fair use policy calls heavy use (checked on 26 October 2026 on the Tally and Typeform pricing pages and Typeform's free plan article). Choose Typeform when you are buying what sits around the form: Growth Flow's enrichment and email and text follow-ups, or Research Flow's AI-moderated interviews. Choose Tally for many forms at volume, without a meter.

Before you switch:
- Add up every form, then price the branding. For example, a newsletter form at 400 sign-ups and a webinar form at 250 make 650 a month, past Typeform Basic's 100 and inside Plus's 1,000. Typeform removes its branding from Plus, so a year costs 12 x $56 = $672 billed yearly; Tally removes its branding on Pro for 12 x $24 = $288, with the volume free either way, using the Typeform and Tally pricing pages.
- Export what you already have. Typeform's free plan article lists downloading results as a spreadsheet on every plan. Take the file before you change anything, so past responses stay yours whichever way you go.
- Test the completion claim. Typeform's homepage says its conversational logic doubles the completion rate against traditional forms. Run the same five-question form in both tools for two weeks, from the same traffic, and compare submissions per visit from your site analytics. That number, not the homepage, decides whether the experience is worth paying for.

What separates them
The meter
Typeform sells responses. Its response limits article applies one monthly total to every form in the account and puts all of them into Private mode at 100%, until the month turns or you upgrade. Tally sells features and keeps volume in a fair use policy: occasional spikes are fine, and only sustained use near 50,000 submissions a month brings an offer of a custom plan. For a team with several busy forms, that difference outweighs the rest.
What the money buys at Typeform
The paid tiers add seats (1, 3 and 5), drop-off analysis on Business and, on Growth Flow, enrichment of 1,500 responses a month, contacts and automations, a Salesforce integration and email and text follow-ups, per the pricing page. Typeform's homepage adds Research Flow, which runs AI-moderated interviews, as a separate product. If those are the job, Tally has no equivalent on its pricing page, and the comparison is over.
Where the data sits
Under Article 28 of the GDPR, a controller may use only processors that provide sufficient guarantees, and the processing has to be governed by a contract or other legal act that binds the processor. Tally's GDPR page treats the form creator as controller and itself as processor, says professional users accept its data processing agreement through its terms, stores form data in Europe, and lists each subprocessor with its country, SendGrid and Stripe in the United States among them for notifications and payments you switch on. Typeform's pricing page lists the choice between a US and an EU data centre as an Enterprise feature. Whether that matters is your data protection officer's call; on Tally the question is answered by default.

Reading responses with an agent
Typeform's MCP server lets you grant Claude or ChatGPT read-only access or permission to make changes, and its examples include summarising the top themes of last month's survey. Grant read-only for this. Ask for the five themes in last month's feedback form, with a count for each. A person then opens ten raw responses under each theme in Typeform and checks they belong there before the summary goes to anyone. Tally's MCP documentation covers the same job with completed submissions filtered by date, and its beta label is a reason for the same check.
Choose Tally if your job is
- Many lead, event and feedback forms where a response meter would bite.
- Taking payments, files or signatures without a paid plan.
- Keeping form data in Europe without an Enterprise contract.
Choose Typeform if your job is
- A form whose experience you have tested and found worth paying for in completions.
- Enriching leads and following up by email or text from the same tool, on Growth Flow.
- Research interviews moderated by AI, through Research Flow.
Free first, and the trial mode default
Both start free, so build the form you need in each. Tally's free plan will let you publish it whole. Typeform's will too, until you add a paid question.
That is the default to watch. A free Typeform account can add the payment, file upload or signature question, but the free plan article puts such a form into trial mode, which prevents publishing or collecting until you upgrade or remove the paid features. The hours spent building the form are what the upgrade sells. Decide which questions you need before you start building, not after.
FAQ
Can both take payments?
Yes, with a difference in plan. Tally lists collecting payments among its free features on its pricing page; Typeform's payment question is listed as paid-only in its free plan article, and its homepage names Stripe and PayPal.
Is Growth Flow just Typeform with more responses?
No. It has the same 10,000 responses a month as Business, at $379 billed monthly or $266 a month billed yearly, and adds enrichment, contacts and automations, multi-language forms and follow-ups by email and text, per the pricing page.
Do Typeform's unused responses roll over?
No. Limits reset each month, apply to monthly and yearly plans alike, and unused responses do not carry over, per the response limits article.
