Typeform vs Google Forms: When a Free Form Is Enough

The short answer: if the form is an internal survey, an event sign-up or a quiz for people who already work in Google, Google Forms does the job with no price of its own and no response cap printed on Google's pages. Typeform is worth $39 a month billed monthly, or $28 billed yearly, for 100 responses when the form faces customers and its design is part of the pitch, or when answers have to be scored and sent to a CRM (checked on 26 October 2026 on the Typeform pricing page and the Google Forms product page). The free tool wins inside the company. The paid one has to earn its place outside it.

Rule of thumb, in three parts:
- Divide the plan by your responses. For example, 300 customer survey responses a month need Typeform Plus, which includes 1,000: $79 / 300 = $0.26 a response on monthly billing, or $56 / 300 = $0.19 billed yearly, from the pricing page. Ask whether a better-looking survey is worth that per answer; sometimes it plainly is.
- Keep the questions you have. Typeform's import guide turns pasted questions into a form with Typeform AI, so an existing Google Form is a starting draft, not a rebuild.
- Split one mailing in two. Send half your list the Google Form and half the Typeform, same questions, same day, and compare responses per 100 people invited. That is the only test of the design that counts for your audience.

What tips it
Who the respondent is
Google Forms suits respondents who are signed in to Google anyway. Its question types article says a file upload question requires a Google Account sign-in, and its publishing article lets you restrict a form to a domain or a group before it goes out. For customers, partners or event guests who arrive from an email or an ad, Typeform takes file uploads on its paid plans and adds brand control: your logo on paid plans, Typeform's branding removed from Plus.
What the form has to do next
A Google Form ends in a summary or a sheet. Typeform scores answers, branches on them and passes URL parameters on every plan, per its free plan article, and its paid integrations write into CRMs; the Typeform how-to routes scored demo requests into HubSpot. If nothing has to happen after submit, that machinery is cost without use.
The notice at the moment of collection
Article 13 of the GDPR requires the controller, at the time personal data are obtained from the person, to give them its identity and contact details, the purposes and legal basis of the processing, the recipients, how long the data will be kept and their rights. A form is where that time is. Typeform's free plan includes Statement and Legal question types, a natural place for the notice and a link to the full privacy statement; in Google Forms, the form description or a question's description field carries it, per the question types article. One detail on Google's side affects the recipients you name: per Google's response destinations article, form collaborators get access to a newly linked response sheet, and later permission changes on the form do not carry over to the sheet.
Prices, side by side
Typeform, in USD on its pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026: Free, 10 responses a month; Basic, $39 monthly or $28 a month yearly, 100 responses and 1 user; Plus, $79 or $56, 1,000 and 3 users; Business, $129 or $91, 10,000 and 5 users.
Google Forms carries no price of its own. On a personal account its responses and uploads share the account's storage, up to 15 GB across Gmail, Drive and Photos per Google One help. For a company domain it sits inside Google Workspace, whose pricing page did not display per-user amounts to the reader used on 26 October 2026; check it in your own browser.
Moving a Google Form across with AI
Typeform's import guide recommends Typeform AI for this: create a new form, paste the questions and answer options, let it build, keep chatting to adjust, and click Apply. The guide's alternative importer box takes up to 6,000 characters. A person then checks the result against the original Google Form line by line: question count, answer options, which questions are required, and any section logic, which you rebuild with Typeform's own logic before the link goes out.
Choose Typeform if your job is
- Customer-facing surveys, applications or lead forms where the form itself represents the brand.
- Scoring answers and sending them to HubSpot, Pipedrive or Salesforce.
- Collecting files or payments from people without asking them to sign in to Google.
Choose Google Forms if your job is
- Internal surveys, quizzes and sign-ups for colleagues who are already signed in to Google.
- Collecting answers into a Google Sheet with no step after submit.
- Large volumes of simple responses, where a monthly response meter would cost real money.
Free first, and where Google's AI sits
Run the split test from the list above on the free plans first: Google Forms costs nothing, and Typeform's free plan covers 10 responses a month, enough for a pilot with colleagues. At any real size, one month of Basic at $39, per the pricing page, is the price of the answer, and you can drop back afterwards.
Notice where each vendor places its AI. Google gives the form builder away with an account and keeps "Help me create a form" for eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plans, per its Gemini article, so the AI button is where the free product points at a paid one. Typeform AI is on its free plan; its meter sits on responses instead.
FAQ
Can I bring an existing Google Form into Typeform?
Yes. Paste its questions into Typeform AI, as the import guide recommends, or use the Google Forms importer that Typeform's integration page describes, which converts a selected Google Form into a new typeform.
When does a Google Form make respondents sign in?
When it contains a file upload question, per Google's question types article, and when its owner restricts access to a domain, a trusted audience or a group before publishing, as the publishing article allows.
Can Google Forms score a quiz?
Yes. The Forms API overview describes quizzes graded against an answer key, with point values and feedback per question.
