The short answer: if you run newsletters and campaigns for a European business, send up to 20,000 emails a month and want a free start and hosting kept in one EU country, Acumbamail fits: Basic is €24 a month billed annually, or €31 month to month, before tax, and its free plan sends 2,000 emails a month to up to 250 subscribers (Acumbamail pricing). If you sell software on trials and the emails that earn money are the ones a billing event sets off, a trial ending or a card failing, Encharge is built for that: Growth is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for 2,000 subscribers, with Stripe triggers included (Encharge pricing). Prices checked on 26 October 2026.

Three questions to settle at your desk:
- Convert both prices to your month. Encharge charges by subscribers and allows ten times that number in sends on Growth; Acumbamail charges by emails sent (Encharge pricing, Acumbamail pricing). For example, 2,000 people mailed eight times a month is 2,000 x 8 = 16,000 emails: inside Acumbamail Basic's 20,000 at €24 billed annually, and inside Encharge Growth's 20,000 sends at $79 billed yearly. Same volume, different currencies, and Acumbamail adds tax at checkout.
- Look at the billing system you already run. Encharge reads 12 Stripe events directly (Stripe triggers). Acumbamail's Stripe page routes Stripe through Zapier, with "add new Stripe customers as subscribers" as the starting flow. One reacts to billing changes; the other copies customers into a list.
- Write down the number that will judge the switch. For lifecycle email, trial-to-paid rate and recovered failed payments, read in Stripe. For campaigns, clicks per send. Take last quarter's figure first.
The same questions, two answers
| Question | Encharge | Acumbamail |
|---|---|---|
| What sets the price? | Subscribers, from a 2,000 tier (pricing) | Emails a month, from 20,000 on paid plans (pricing) |
| Is there a free plan? | A 14-day trial, no free plan listed | Yes: 2,000 emails a month, up to 250 subscribers |
| Currency and tax | US dollars | Euros, shown without tax |
| What can start an automation? | Product events, page visits, form fills, 12 Stripe triggers, plus Chargebee, Paddle and Recurly | Automations on preset triggers or subscriber behaviour (email marketing page) |
| Other channels | Facebook Ads audiences, Slack alerts | SMS, landing pages, surveys (homepage) |
| Where data is hosted | AWS in Ireland; Twilio SendGrid in the US sends for some accounts (GDPR portal) | All infrastructure in Spain, no international transfers (infrastructure page) |
| Minimum term | Monthly or yearly plans | None; leave or change plan at any time |

What separates them
A trigger versus a list
Encharge is built around what a user just did. Its Stripe triggers cover a trial starting, a trial ending a set number of days ahead, a conversion, an expiry, a past-due payment, a cancellation and a plan expanding or contracting (Stripe triggers). Acumbamail is built around what you want to send: newsletters, RSS campaigns, A/B tests, autoresponders and SMTP for transactional mail (email marketing page). Neither is the lesser tool. They answer different questions, and a SaaS team that tries to run dunning emails through a newsletter tool ends up building in Zapier what Encharge ships as a ready trigger.
Where the personal data sits
When personal data leaves the European Economic Area, the GDPR requires safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to travel with it (European Commission). Acumbamail states that all its infrastructure is hosted in Spain, so there are no international transfers (infrastructure page). Encharge hosts app data in an AWS data centre in Ireland, but lists Twilio SendGrid, whose infrastructure is in the US, as an optional subprocessor that sends email for some accounts, and asks customers who need the whole account kept in the EU to contact it (GDPR portal). If your data protection officer signs off vendors, that sentence is the one to send them.
Prices for three common setups, checked on 26 October 2026
| Your situation | Encharge | Acumbamail |
|---|---|---|
| Under 250 subscribers, under 2,000 emails a month | Growth, $79 yearly or $99 monthly | Free plan, €0 |
| 2,000 subscribers, 16,000 emails a month | Growth, $79 yearly or $99 monthly | Basic, €24 annual or €31 monthly |
| 10,000 subscribers, 80,000 emails a month | Growth, $199 yearly or $249 monthly | Basic at 100,000 emails, €99 annual or €124 monthly |
Sources: the Encharge pricing page and the Acumbamail pricing page. Encharge's Premium plan, needed for event-based segments, the Ingest API and the HubSpot or Salesforce sync, is $129 a month billed yearly at 2,000 subscribers. Acumbamail's Pro plan at 20,000 emails is €69 billed annually and adds list cleaning, automatic resend and Facebook audiences. Acumbamail's annual payment is 20% below the monthly fee, per its pricing FAQ.
One AI step: the trial-ending email
Encharge's Magic Writer sits at the top right of both email builders; you pick a use case, describe the email, set the tone and product name, and it returns drafts to copy in, with no cap on the number of ideas (Magic Writer guide). Use it on the email behind the Trial Ends trigger, three days before the end date. Ask for a plain-text email that names the one feature the user has not tried. Then a person rewrites the draft against the product's real limits and adds the Check Condition step the Stripe article calls for, so customers who already paid do not get it. The AI Autocomplete for rewriting sentences works only in the Simple Email Builder and needs a selection of 30 to 300 characters, per the same guide.
Acumbamail's pricing, integrations and API pages, read on 26 October 2026, document no AI writing or agent feature, so this step has no Acumbamail half (integrations, API documentation).
Free first
Open an Acumbamail free account and send your real newsletter for a month: 2,000 emails, no card and no minimum term (Acumbamail FAQs, pricing). If the job is campaigns, that month may settle it at no cost. If the job is trials, use Encharge's 14-day trial to connect Stripe and build only the Trial Ends flow, then compare the trial-to-paid rate for that fortnight's cohort with the one before.
Acumbamail's pricing page opens with the annual switch already on, so the €24 Basic price a visitor sees first is the price of paying for a year at once; month to month, the same plan is €31 (Acumbamail pricing). Read the figure under the switch you will use.
Choose Encharge if your job is
- Turning trials into paying accounts with emails that react to Stripe, Chargebee, Paddle or Recurly events.
- Sending onboarding emails based on what people do inside your app.
- Syncing marketing activity two ways with HubSpot or Salesforce, on Premium.
Choose Acumbamail if your job is
- Sending newsletters, RSS campaigns and promotions by volume, priced in euros.
- Adding SMS and landing pages to the same account.
- Keeping all hosting inside Spain for a simpler data protection review.
