The short answer: if webinars or sales funnels are how you win customers, GetResponse puts them in one plan: Creator includes webinars for up to 100 attendees, courses and a website builder for $109 a month at 5,000 contacts, against $100 for Mailchimp Standard, whose plan table lists no webinar tool (GetResponse pricing, GetResponse plans, Mailchimp pricing, monthly prices read on 26 October 2026). If your list is under 2,500 and you need several automations but no webinars, Mailchimp Standard costs less than GetResponse's first plan with unlimited workflows.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

GetResponse sells a bundle: email with unlimited sends on every plan, then funnels, ecommerce tools, webinars and courses stacked on the higher tiers. Mailchimp, Intuit's email and SMS platform, sells contact tiers, each with a send allowance, and is strongest where store data feeds automation flows. If you already pay for a webinar tool, the comparison changes the moment you add that invoice to Mailchimp's side.

Before you book either demo:

  1. Find the plan that runs more than one automation. GetResponse Starter allows one custom workflow, so a second one means Marketer. For example, at 2,500 contacts that is $69 for GetResponse Marketer against $60 for Mailchimp Standard; at 10,000 it flips to $114 against $135 (GetResponse pricing, Mailchimp pricing).
  2. Add the tools you already pay for. Put your current webinar and course tools' monthly fees next to Mailchimp's price; GetResponse Creator replaces them only if 100 attendees per webinar and 500 students per course are enough (GetResponse plans, pricing).
  3. Count everyone on the list, not only the active. GetResponse's free account counts unconfirmed and removed contacts toward its 500 limit (free account article); Mailchimp counts unsubscribed contacts unless archived (plans article).
  4. Pick the funnel number. For webinars: registrations, attendees and booked calls per session. Track them for the last three sessions now, so the switch has a baseline.

The two or three things that decide it

Webinars inside the email tool

GetResponse's Creator plan runs webinars for up to 100 attendees and adds a website builder, courses for up to 500 students and premium newsletters (plans article, pricing). Registrants are contacts in the same account that sends the reminders and follow-ups. Mailchimp's plan table has no webinar row, so a webinar programme on Mailchimp means a second tool and an integration between them.

Sends that are not counted

Every GetResponse plan lists unlimited monthly email sends (pricing). Mailchimp caps sends and bills overage beyond the cap (pricing). For a weekly newsletter this rarely matters; for a webinar programme with four reminders per registrant it can.

Where each first plan stops

GetResponse Starter is cheap and narrow: one custom workflow, AI tools limited to 3 uses, no funnels or ecommerce tools (plans article). Mailchimp Essentials is narrow in another way: flows of 4 steps, no custom reports and no generative AI (Mailchimp pricing). Compare second plans, not first ones, if automation is the job.

Monthly bill by list size

Monthly billing in USD, checked on 26 October 2026 on the GetResponse pricing page, whose prices are net of tax, and the Mailchimp pricing page. GetResponse's yearly billing takes 18% off: Starter at 1,000 contacts drops from $19 to $15.58 a month.

List sizeGetResponse StarterGetResponse MarketerGetResponse CreatorMailchimp EssentialsMailchimp Standard
1,000$19$59$69$26.50$45
2,500$29$69$79$45$60
5,000$54$95$109$75$100
10,000$79$114$134$110$135
25,000$174$215$249$270$310
50,000$299$359$414$385$450

Mailchimp prices by band, so the first two Mailchimp rows are the bands that contain 1,000 and 2,500 contacts. GetResponse offers 50% off monthly plans to charities and NGOs, per its pricing page.

The free account, used properly

GetResponse's free account holds 500 contacts, sends 2,500 newsletters a month and opens the premium features, webinars included, for the first 14 days (free account article). That fortnight is enough to run one real webinar for up to 10 people, the free cap, and to build the follow-up workflow. On Mailchimp the free tier stops at 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, and the trial of a paid tier is also 14 days long (plans article).

The two weeks of premium features are there to get your workflows and funnels built in the vendor's tool; the help centre says that after day 14 you lose access to them unless you upgrade. Write each workflow down step by step outside the tool as you build it, so the work survives whichever way you decide.

The AI drafts, a person edits

GetResponse's AI Email Generator writes a whole newsletter from a few answers: you open Email Marketing, choose to create a newsletter with the AI email creator, enter keywords and your business type, pick the email type, tone, layout and colours, and it generates the message (AI generator article). Starter accounts get 3 uses and paid plans above it have no limit. Used for a webinar invitation, the AI drafts; a person replaces any claim it made about the session with the real agenda, date and speaker, then sends a test before scheduling.

Choose GetResponse if

  • Webinars, courses or funnels are part of how you sell, and 100 attendees per session is enough.
  • You send often and do not want a send cap.
  • Your list is 5,000 contacts or more and you need several automations.

Choose Mailchimp if

  • Your list is under 2,500 and you need several automations but no webinars.
  • An online store's orders and carts drive your emails.
  • More than five people need their own logins on one account.

If webinars, email and the sales follow-up each have a different owner and nobody owns the whole, the gap is a person rather than a platform; an interim CMO, which is work I sell, takes that seat for a set term.

FAQ

Does GetResponse have a free plan?

Yes. The free account allows up to 500 contacts and 2,500 newsletters a month with no credit card, plus premium features for the first 14 days.

How many people can join a GetResponse webinar?

Up to 100 attendees on the Creator plan, per the plans article; the free account allows 10, presenters included.

Does Mailchimp offer webinars?

Its pricing page lists no webinar feature on any plan, so a webinar programme there runs through a separate tool connected by integration.
