The short answer: once your list passes a few thousand subscribers, Moosend costs less for the same job: 5,000 subscribers on its Pro plan is $48 a month on monthly billing with no send cap, against $100 for Mailchimp Standard at 2,501 to 5,000 contacts (Moosend pricing, Mailchimp pricing, checked on 24 October 2026). Under 250 contacts the answer flips, because Mailchimp's free plan costs nothing and Moosend has no free plan once its 30-day trial ends.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

The two products do much the same work: campaigns, a drag and drop editor, automation, forms and landing pages. What Moosend changes is the meter. It charges by subscribers and lets you send as often as you like, and its pricing FAQ says the same address on several lists is billed once. Mailchimp charges by contact tier and gives each plan a monthly send allowance.

Before you move a list:

  1. Work out the yearly gap. For example, at 5,000 subscribers Moosend Pro billed annually is $38 a month, or $456 a year, and Mailchimp Standard is $100 a month, or $1,200 a year, so the gap is $1,200 - $456 = $744 (Moosend pricing, Mailchimp pricing).
  2. Count sends from the calendar you already keep. Subscribers times campaigns a month: 5,000 x 6 = 30,000, which fits inside the 50,000 that Mailchimp Essentials allows at 10 times a 5,000 tier. The send cap decides little for a weekly sender; it decides a lot for a daily one.
  3. Export before you start any trial. Mailchimp exports subscribed, non-subscribed, unsubscribed and cleaned contacts as CSV files (export guide). Keep the unsubscribed and cleaned files, so nobody who left is mailed again from the new tool.
  4. Choose the number you will read on day 30. Send your next two campaigns to a 1,000-person slice from Moosend, which its trial allows with unlimited sends, and to everyone else from Mailchimp. Compare click rates for the same content.

What separates them

A cap that bites only daily senders

Mailchimp's monthly allowance is 10 times your contact tier on Essentials and 12 times on Standard, per its plans article. For example, a 5,000-contact list mailed every weekday is 5,000 x 22 = 110,000 sends, well past the 60,000 that Standard allows at that tier. Moosend's Pro plan lists unlimited campaigns and sends at every list size on its pricing page. If you send four times a month, neither number touches you and the decision is price and features.

What happens on day 31

Moosend's pricing FAQ offers a 30-day trial with no card, then a choice: upgrade to a plan or buy email credits, with your data kept either way. There is no free tier to fall back to. Mailchimp keeps a free plan for up to 250 contacts and 500 sends a month, and its paid-plan trial lasts 14 days and asks for valid payment details at enrolment, per the trial terms on its pricing page. For a side project that stays small, that difference outweighs every other row in the table.

AI that works from where you are

Mailchimp can generate the emails of a pre-built automation flow from your brand kit, but its help article limits that feature to Standard or higher, to accounts whose primary mailing address is in the United States, and calls it a beta. A company registered in Utrecht does not get it. Moosend's AI writer, also in beta, drafts subject lines, preview text and body copy inside the campaign wizard, and its guide names no country restriction.

A subject line from the AI writer, approved by you

In Moosend's campaign wizard, the AI writer guide has you open the AI editor beside the subject line, type a few words such as "New arrivals", pick a purpose such as Product promotion and click Generate. You can regenerate until a line fits, then click Insert. That Insert click is the human check: the person who owns the campaign reads the line against the offer and the preview text, and rejects anything the email does not deliver. The same writer can shorten, lengthen or change the tone of body copy, so give it a draft rather than a blank page.

A no-card trial is built to get your list and your automations inside Moosend before day 31, when the only ways forward are a plan or credits. Keep the Mailchimp account and its exports until the second Moosend invoice has been paid without surprises.

What you would pay

USD, checked on 24 October 2026 on the Moosend pricing page and the Mailchimp pricing page. Mailchimp's tiers are ranges, so the closest range is shown.

List sizeMoosend Pro, monthlyMoosend Pro, annual, per monthMailchimp Essentials, monthlyMailchimp Standard, monthly
500$9$7$13$20
1,000$16$13$26.50 (501 to 1,500)$45 (501 to 1,500)
5,000$48$38$75 (2,501 to 5,000)$100 (2,501 to 5,000)
10,000$88$70$110 (5,001 to 10,000)$135 (5,001 to 10,000)

Moosend takes 15% off for biannual billing and 20% for annual, and gives nonprofits 25% on top of the annual discount. Mailchimp shows 15% off for 12 months from the 5,001 to 10,000 tier, which puts Standard at $114.75 until month 13 brings back $135 (Mailchimp pricing).

Choose Moosend if your job is

  • Mailing a list of a few thousand or more, often, without counting sends.
  • Paying less per subscriber, with five team members on the standard plan.
  • Writing subject lines with AI from an account outside the United States.

Choose Mailchimp if your job is

  • Running a small list of up to 250 contacts at no cost, indefinitely.
  • Connecting other tools through the 300+ integrations its pricing page lists on every paid plan.
  • Keeping three to five people in the account on the lower tiers, with automation flows from Standard up.

FAQ

Does Moosend have a free plan?

No. It has a 30-day trial without a card, then a paid plan or pay-as-you-go email credits, which its pricing FAQ says never expire, so occasional senders are not tied to a subscription.

Who owns Moosend now?

The footer of its pricing page says "Moosend is now a Constant Contact company", and the homepage promotes Constant Contact's SMS and event tools. Moosend's own plans and prices are still sold on that page.

Can Mailchimp's AI build my flows from Europe?

Not the flow-email generator. The help article requires a primary mailing address in the United States and a Standard plan or higher. Other generative AI features are listed on Standard and Premium on the pricing page, for certain users in select countries and in English only.
