The short answer: if the people who have to act on your customer calls are product managers and marketers who believe a clip before a summary, pick tl;dv: its free plan already records video, its data is hosted in the EU, and Pro costs $18 a seat a month billed annually or $29 billed monthly (tl;dv pricing). If the call mainly needs to land as searchable text for the rep and the CRM, pick Fireflies.ai: Pro is $10 a seat billed annually or $18 monthly, and its API is open on the free plan (Fireflies pricing). Both pages checked on 26 October 2026. Choose tl;dv if your job is showing colleagues what a customer said; choose Fireflies.ai if your job is a cheap, complete archive of what every rep heard.

Three numbers to pull before a demo:
- The seat bill at the tier you will end up on. Questions across many meetings at once are capped on tl;dv Free and Pro, at 5 in the plan table on the pricing page and at 10 in the Ask AI article, and the allowance never renews; only Business makes them unlimited. For example, eight reps on annual billing: tl;dv Business is 8 x $29 = $232 a month, Fireflies.ai Business 8 x $19 = $152, and at Pro level the gap is 8 x $18 = $144 against 8 x $10 = $80 (Fireflies pricing).
- The recordings already sitting in Zoom or Drive. Fireflies.ai transcribes uploaded MP3, MP4, WAV and M4A files from its free plan (Fireflies homepage); tl;dv Free allows 5 manual uploads for the life of the account, and Pro removes the cap (free plan article). A back catalogue of webinars tips it one way before any feature does.
- The decision you expect a call to change. Write down one: a roadmap item, a pricing page section, a sales script. After a month, count the decisions that cited a call. If none cited a video moment, the video was not what you were buying.

Where they part ways
Video that persuades, or text that is searched
tl;dv is built around the recording you can point at. A clip of a customer stumbling over your onboarding settles an argument that a written summary only starts. Its free plan records video from the first meeting, with one catch: after 3 days a free recording moves to archived storage, and unarchiving it can take up to an hour and a half (free plan article). Fireflies.ai treats the transcript as the product and adds video from Pro. If nobody outside sales will press play, that is the sensible default.
One allowance, or a credit meter
tl;dv's Business plan advertises "no usage-based AI fees" and unlimited questions across meetings (pricing). Fireflies.ai runs AskFred, AI Skills and Voice Agents on AI credits, a fixed number per seat on each plan (free plan guide). Heavy questioners get a flatter bill from tl;dv Business; a team that reads its own transcripts never touches the meter.
Where an EU customer's voice is stored
tl;dv states that data is hosted and stored in the EU on its pricing page; Fireflies.ai offers storage at a location you choose only through Private Storage on Enterprise, $39 a seat a month and annual only (security page, pricing). Check your customer contracts for a processing location before the first call is recorded.
Seat prices, side by side
US dollars per seat a month, checked on 26 October 2026. tl;dv, from its pricing page: Free at $0, Pro at $18 on annual billing or $29 monthly, Business at $29 or $39, Enterprise quoted. Fireflies.ai, from its pricing page: Free at $0, Pro at $10 annual or $18 monthly, Business at $19 or $29, Enterprise at $39 on annual billing only. The Fireflies.ai seat is cheaper on every paid tier; the tl;dv premium buys the video library and, on Business, unmetered questions.
An agent step: a battlecard from last month's calls
tl;dv's MCP connector, available from Pro with a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan, documents prompts for exactly this, including "Turn all customer objections into a battlecard for the sales team" (tl;dv MCP article). Its guidance says a query returns about 50 meetings, and a meeting is visible only when its organiser is on Pro or above. Ask for objections from the last 30 days with the meeting and timestamp beside each one. A sales lead then opens each recording at that moment and strikes any objection that the customer did not raise in those words, before the card goes out.
On Fireflies.ai, the MCP server's fireflies_search tool takes a small query grammar, such as a keyword, scope:sentences and a date range, and its documentation marks the tool as experimental and still rolling out (MCP tools). The same human check applies, and the notice duties are in the customer calls use case.
Try both for nothing first
A fortnight on the free plans answers most of this. Run tl;dv Free and Fireflies.ai Free on the same customer calls, and set the join rules before switching Auto Join on, since by default Fred joins every meeting with a web-conference link (pre-meeting guide). Then read the decision count from the list above.
Read one panel with care. tl;dv's pricing page carries its own panel on the Fireflies.ai free plan, and its storage line there reads 5 hours a month; Fireflies.ai's own pricing page says 400 minutes per team, and its help guide says per seat. A seller describes a rival in the terms that close its own deal, so take every rival figure from the rival's page.
Which job each one wins
Choose tl;dv if your job is putting customer moments in front of product and marketing as video, you want the data held in the EU, and the team will ask questions across dozens of calls at once on Business.
Choose Fireflies.ai if your job is a searchable record of every rep's calls at the lowest seat price, in more languages, with an API you can build on before paying anything.
