The short answer: for up to 2,500 static images a month, Placid's $39 Pro plan covers what Bannerbear sells on its $149 Scale plan, because Bannerbear's $49 Automate plan stops at 1,000 credits (Placid pricing, Bannerbear pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Bannerbear earns the difference on video and chained media work: subtitles, voiceovers and joins in one workflow, called from code or from an agent through a server you can scope to a few tools. Choose Placid if your job is template images and PDFs at the lowest cost per render. Choose Bannerbear if your job is multi-step video and image pipelines.

Both fill a branded template with data and return a finished file, through an API, no-code integrations or an AI assistant. The differences are in the small print of a credit, in how you test, and in what happens at the end of the month.
Price the month, then the edge cases:
- Your volume, in credits. For example, 2,000 product images a month in one format at normal scale use 2,000 credits on either tool: Bannerbear's Scale plan at $149 (10,000 credits) or Placid's Pro plan at $39 (2,500 credits), per the Bannerbear and Placid pricing pages.
- The sheet or system you already feed. Placid puts API access and its no-code integrations on every plan, with Airtable, Make, n8n, Zapier, Webflow, WordPress, Ghost and an MCP server in the list (Placid pricing); Bannerbear lists 50+ app integrations, Forms and Workflows from Automate up (Bannerbear pricing). Start from the source your content team updates today.
- Credits per finished asset, from the logs. After the first real batch, divide credits used by assets published. Bannerbear keeps a per-request log showing what each call cost (pricing FAQ); Placid emails you at 80% of the month's credits.

The rules behind a credit
| Rule | Bannerbear | Placid |
|---|---|---|
| One image | 1 credit per format, multiplied by the scale | 1 credit |
| AI on an image | +1 credit per layer that uses detection, background removal or AI backgrounds | Not listed on the pricing page |
| Video | 2 credits per second; 60fps doubles it | 10 credits per 10 seconds, up to full HD |
| Building a PDF is a 1-credit tool | 2 credits per page | |
| Testing | 30 trial credits, no card | Unlimited watermarked previews, free trial without a card |
| Unused credits | No rollover described | Roll over, up to twice the monthly allowance |
| Out of credits | Request refused with the credits needed | No overage fees; generation stops except previews |

Where they part
The arithmetic of a single render
Placid's rule fits on one line: an image is a credit. Bannerbear multiplies by format and by scale, so a request for JPG plus PNG at double scale costs four credits, and it adds a credit for each AI layer in use (pricing FAQ). That is fair pricing for heavier work, but it means the template's settings, not the request count, decide the bill.
How you test
Placid treats testing as free: in test mode, previews come back watermarked and cost no credits (Placid pricing). Bannerbear bills each render at creation, which means a later failure still counts, and its trial gives 30 credits and room for three image templates (pricing FAQ). Placid suits teams that iterate on a template in production; Bannerbear suits teams that test with a small sample, then run.
Video and chains
Bannerbear's workflows chain renders and video tools, such as resize, intro animation and burned-in subtitles, into one call, priced as the sum of their steps (pricing FAQ). Placid generates video from its templates at up to full HD. If the job is "make a captioned clip from this podcast episode, then a square cut for Instagram", Bannerbear is built for it.
Prices, monthly billing
Bannerbear: $49 buys Automate's 1,000 API and 200 AI credits a month, $149 buys Scale's 10,000 and 600, and $299 buys Enterprise's 50,000 and 1,250 (Bannerbear pricing). Placid: Basic $19 for 500 credits, Pro $39 for 2,500, Business $89 for 25,000, VIP $249 for 100,000, every plan with API access and the no-code integrations (Placid pricing). Both checked on 26 October 2026.
One agent step: certificates from a chat, inside guardrails
Placid's MCP setup is built around limits you set before the agent arrives (Placid MCP guide). Create a project with the MCP integration and a certificate template whose layer names say what they hold: student name, course title, date. Tag the templates the agent may use with #mcp and give it access to that tag only. Restrict its permissions to PDFs. In the usage instructions, write that it must ask when information is missing and never make it up. Then connect Claude to the project's MCP URL with your API key, and ask for this month's certificates from the attendance list.
A person checks the first five certificates before the agent generates the rest: every name spelled as on the registration form, the right course, the right date. Placid's MCP introduction states that outputs stay template-driven and the MCP does not invent visuals. Bannerbear's route is its hosted server: pick the smallest endpoint that covers the job, such as the 8-tool workflows profile rather than all 63 tools, and narrow it further with a scoped API key (Bannerbear MCP article).
The layer that bills every time
Bannerbear charges AI features per layer per request, so a template built with a background-removal layer adds a credit to every render that supplies an image to it, including product photos already shot on white (pricing FAQ). For example, 2,000 renders through that template cost 2,000 x 2 = 4,000 credits instead of 2,000. Keep two templates, one with the layer and one without, and route clean photos to the second.
Free on both, first
Neither asks for a card to start. Build the same template in both, a product card with name, price and photo, and run ten rows from your real sheet: as watermarked previews in Placid, and with Bannerbear's 30 trial credits (Bannerbear pricing). Compare the files and the minutes spent, then price your real volume in the table above.
Choose Bannerbear if your job is chained video and image workflows, called from code or an agent, where per-format and per-second pricing buys more processing.
Choose Placid if your job is high volumes of template images and PDFs on a tight budget, with free previews while you test and rollover for uneven months.
When the hard part is not the renderer but who marks a row ready, who checks the previews and where the files land, the agentic marketing work I sell is about designing that run. The Bannerbear entry covers its plans, and how to use Bannerbear renders a catalogue from a sheet.
FAQ
Do unused credits carry over?
On Placid, yes: leftover credits roll over, up to twice the monthly allowance (Placid pricing). Bannerbear's pricing FAQ describes credits as a monthly allowance and does not describe a rollover.
What does video cost on each?
Bannerbear charges 2 credits per second of animation, rounded up, doubled at 60fps, plus 1 to 4 credits per video tool (Bannerbear pricing). Placid charges 10 credits for every 10 seconds of video (Placid pricing).
Does Placid's agent connection need OAuth?
No. Its setup guide connects a client to the project's own MCP URL with your Placid API key as a bearer token (Placid MCP guide). Bannerbear's hosted server signs in with OAuth instead.
