The short answer: count your WordPress sites. For one, Elementor's Advanced Solo plan costs $84 a year against $89 for Divi; for three, Elementor costs $108 and Divi still $89; for 25, Elementor's Expert plan costs $204 while Divi's $89 licence covers unlimited sites (Elegant Themes pricing, Elementor pricing file, checked on 26 October 2026). Choose Divi if your job is building and looking after many sites, or paying once, $249 for lifetime access. Choose Elementor if your job is one or a few marketing sites where the plugin's free core, its form and popup builders and the One bundle of cookie consent and accessibility fixes do the work.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Divi is a theme with its own builder, sold as a membership that also includes the Extra theme and the Bloom and Monarch plugins, and its design system runs on class-based presets and global variables (Elegant Themes pricing). Elementor is a builder plugin first, with a free core Editor that shows more than 10 million active installations on WordPress.org (plugin listing); paid plans add Pro widgets, popups and forms per site, or a monthly credit pool for AI and site services on One (pricing file). The first sells a toolkit for every site you will build. The second rents features for the sites you have.

Before you buy a licence:

  1. Divide by the sites. For example, 12 client sites on Divi cost $89 / 12 = $7.42 per site a year; on Elementor they need Expert, $204 / 12 = $17 per site (Elegant Themes pricing, Elementor pricing file).
  2. Price five years of one site. For example, Divi Lifetime is $249 once, while five years of Elementor's Advanced Solo at today's $84 are 5 x $84 = $420; Elementor's pricing file states no renewal rate for its Pro plans, so that sum assumes today's price holds.
  3. Start from the builder you already pay for. A Divi 4 site moves to Divi 5 with the Migrator on Divi's own update path, and Divi 4 keeps support for at least 12 months after Divi 5's release on 26 February 2026, per the migration guide. An Elementor Pro plan can upgrade to One with the unused term credited, but cancelling first forfeits that credit, per the pricing file.
  4. Time the upkeep. Log the hours a month spent on plugin and theme updates. Divi Dash and One's site management dashboard both aim at them; the log shows whether either did.

What separates them once the sites are live

What a lapsed licence leaves behind. Divi's FAQ says that if you cancel, you lose new versions, updates and support after the term, and may keep using the themes you have already downloaded forever (pricing FAQ). Elementor's renewal article says Pro features stop immediately when a subscription expires, and the not-renewing article warns of limited access to existing Pro features and of compatibility problems when the free plugin updates without Pro (renewal, not renewing). For a client who may stop paying you, Divi's terms are the gentler ones.

What the bundle carries. Elementor One, $180 for the first year and $228 after, adds cookie consent with consent records, accessibility fixes, image optimisation and transactional email, paid from 25,000 credits a month that do not roll over (pricing file). Divi Pro, $277 a year, bundles AI, layout storage in the cloud, faster support and 4 team members (Elegant Themes pricing). One runs the site. The other speeds up whoever builds it.

Whose price list to read. Divi's pricing page compares itself with an Elementor plan for 1,000 sites at $399 a year; Elementor's help centre lists that plan, Legacy Expert, as discontinued on 9 March 2021 (not renewing). Use the current figures below.

A mock-up turned into a layout by Divi's agent

The Divi AI Agent builds a Divi 5 layout from a text brief, a screenshot or a reference URL, and it needs a Divi AI subscription. Each Divi AI membership includes $5 of agent spend a month, after which Elegant Themes passes on model prices with a small markup.

  1. Export the approved mock-up as an image, final copy included.
  2. Open the page in the Divi builder, put the agent in Ask mode and ask which sections and modules it would use. Ask mode changes nothing.
  3. Switch to Build mode, attach the image and ask for the layout using the site's existing presets.
  4. The human check: the designer lays the result next to the mock-up on desktop and phone and fixes what drifted. The agent confirms before deleting or unpublishing anything, and its checkpoints revert the build to an earlier state, per the agent page. A person publishes.

Elementor's route is AI in One, at 1 to 40 credits an action, or Angie, a separate agent plugin with a free plan that takes a description, a screenshot or a URL and, in its Super Admin Mode, confirms a plan before it acts (pricing file, Angie page).

Test on the free core first

Elementor's core Editor costs nothing, so build your most demanding template with it on a staging copy first (plugin listing). If the free widgets carry it, the paid question shrinks to forms, popups and the theme builder. Divi has no free tier, so its 30-day refund is the trial: build the same template inside it.

Note the order of the cards on Elegant Themes' join page. The yearly tab opens with Divi Pro, $277 and badged SAVE 69%, placed before the $89 card that already licenses the builder on unlimited sites, so the first price a buyer meets carries $188 a year of AI, cloud storage and VIP support that a one-designer shop may never open (Elegant Themes pricing). Start on the $89 card; Divi's FAQ says you can add services later.

Choose Divi if your job is

  • Building and maintaining many client sites under one licence.
  • Paying once for a builder you expect to use for years.
  • Finished sites that keep working when a client stops paying for updates.

Choose Elementor if your job is

  • A single marketing site, where Advanced Solo costs $5 less than Divi's licence (pricing file).
  • Popups and forms that keep their submissions in WordPress.
  • Buying cookie consent, accessibility fixes and image optimisation in the same subscription as the builder.

The products in depth: the Divi entry and the Elementor entry; how to use Divi moves a site to Divi 5, and how to use Elementor sends form leads into a CRM.

FAQ

Is Divi always cheaper than Elementor?

No. For a single site, Elementor's Advanced Solo at $84 a year is $5 below Divi's $89, and Essential at $60 is lower still if you need neither popups nor stored form submissions (Elementor pricing file, Elegant Themes pricing). From the second site on, Divi's flat licence costs less.

Do I need Elementor to use Angie?

No. Elementor says Angie works on any WordPress site, with or without its Editor, though logging in requires an Elementor account (Angie page).

Does either include hosting?

Neither membership does. Elegant Themes sells Divi Hosting with Divi preinstalled, and Elementor sells Elementor Host separately from One, which runs on any compatible WordPress host (Elegant Themes FAQ, pricing file).
