The short answer: if your work is interviews and recordings made elsewhere, often needing a second language, Notta fits: it imports files of up to 5 hours and translates transcripts from Pro, which costs $97.99 for a year, shown as $8.17 a month, or $13.49 paid monthly (Notta pricing, import article). If your work is a sales or success team's live calls, kept and searchable for everyone, Fireflies.ai fits, at $10 a seat a month on Pro billed annually or $18 monthly (Fireflies pricing). Both checked on 26 October 2026.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

What Notta changes is where the work starts. A research interview recorded on a phone, a Zoom file from an agency, a podcast episode: Notta takes wav, mp3, m4a, mp4, mov, webm and a dozen other formats, up to 1 GB for audio and 10 GB for video (import article). Then it translates the transcript into 40+ languages and shows original and translation side by side (translation article). The job Notta wins: the researcher, consultant or content lead who turns conversations in several languages into one document.

Fireflies.ai starts at the calendar. Its bot, Fred, joins the team's Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls, and the transcripts, summaries, topic trackers and AI Skills build into one workspace that everyone can search (homepage). It also takes MP3, MP4, WAV and M4A uploads. The job Fireflies wins is the sales floor: many people, many calls, one shared record.

Work it out on one sheet:

  1. Minutes, counting translation twice. For example, 12 interviews of 50 minutes a month, each translated: 12 x 50 = 600 minutes to transcribe, and Notta charges a translation at the original audio length again, so 600 x 2 = 1,200 of Pro's 1,800 monthly minutes (usage rules, pricing). Fireflies lists transcription as unlimited on Pro and meters storage instead, 8,000 minutes a seat (Fireflies pricing).
  2. The files you already hold. Count last quarter's recordings and their sizes. Notta Pro imports 100 files a month, each also using its length in minutes (import article). Through the Fireflies API, audio files go up to 200 MB on every plan and video up to 1.5 GB on paid plans (API limits).
  3. The test of a good transcript. Pick five quotes you would use and check each against the recording at its timestamp. Count the misses per tool; that number decides more than either feature list.

What decides it

One person's files or a team's calls

Notta's Free and Pro plans are one seat each (pricing); collaboration starts on Business. Fireflies is priced per teammate from the start and lets anyone open a recap link free (pricing FAQ). If one researcher does the work, Notta's single seat is the cheaper fit. If six reps feed one library, Fireflies is.

The second language

Fireflies transcribes more languages. Notta does more with them afterwards: translated transcripts on Pro, viewed as original, translation or both side by side (translation article). Correct the original before translating, because the translated text cannot be edited, and a retranslation uses minutes again.

What the free plan can test

Notta Free accepts 50 uploads a month but only the first 3 minutes of each are accessible, which shows the interface, never a full interview (import article); the 7-day Business trial is the real test (pricing). Fireflies Free transcribes whole meetings, three before Auto Join is switched on and unlimited after (free plan article).

Prices, side by side

In US dollars a month, checked on 26 October 2026. Notta (pricing): Free $0; Pro $8.17 billed annually or $13.49 monthly; Business $16.67 per seat billed annually or $27.99 monthly; Enterprise quoted from 51 seats. Fireflies.ai (pricing): a $0 Free tier, then Pro at $10 a seat with annual billing against $18 with monthly, Business at $19 against $29, and an annual-only Enterprise seat at $39.

Translation is Notta's headline, and its add-ons are where it gets paid for beyond the plan. Every plan includes two monolingual real-time translations and four bilingual transcription sessions a month; past that, Monolingual Translation costs $10 a month and Bilingual Transcription and Translation $15 a month on monthly billing, or $6 and $9 billed annually (pricing). Count the multilingual meetings in a normal month before the plan, not after.

One agent step: let the assistant upload the files

Notta documents an MCP server and CLI that can take a local audio or video file, upload it to Notta in the language you choose, check when transcription is complete and retrieve the text; for MCP, the file must sit in a folder you allowed during setup (Notta MCP). After a round of interviews, point the assistant at that folder and ask it to transcribe each file in its spoken language and return the transcripts. A person then checks the language setting and the speaker labels on every transcript before translation runs, because a German interview transcribed as English wastes the minutes twice.

On Fireflies, the equivalent is the API's upload mutation, which pulls a file from a URL and calls a webhook when the transcript is ready (upload documentation).

Interviewees and call participants should know they are being recorded either way. How to tell them, and what changes when a transcript turns into content, is in the customer calls use case.

The use case each wins

Choose Notta if your job is interviews, research or recordings from elsewhere, with transcripts you need in a second language.

Choose Fireflies.ai if the work is many people's live customer calls, searchable by everyone, with skills and trackers running across them.

FAQ

Is Notta's free plan enough for one interview?

No. Each conversation or imported file is accessible for its first 3 minutes on Free (import article); use the 7-day Business trial for a full interview.

Can Fireflies.ai transcribe a recording I already have?

Yes. The app accepts MP3, MP4, WAV and M4A (homepage), and the API accepts audio up to 200 MB from a URL (API limits).

Does translation in Notta use my minutes?

Yes. Translation and re-transcription each draw transcription time equal to the original audio length (usage rules). For example, a 45-minute interview translated into English draws 45 x 2 = 90 minutes.
