The short answer: if most of your conversations happen on calls at a laptop, Notta covers them without buying anything physical: its desktop app records without a bot on every plan, and Pro costs $8.17 a month billed annually, $97.99 a year, or $13.49 monthly (Notta pricing, Notta Desktop). If they happen at trade fairs, client workshops and on the phone away from a desk, you are buying a recorder either way, and the choice is Notta Memo at $149 against Plaud's four devices from $159 to $189, each with 300 free transcription minutes a month (Notta Memo, Plaud device comparison, Plaud plans). All checked on 26 October 2026.

Before buying hardware:

  1. A first year, device and plan together. For example, one event marketer who needs more than 300 minutes a month: Notta Memo plus Notta Pro is $149 + $97.99 = $246.99 for 1,800 minutes a month; Plaud Note plus Plaud Pro on annual billing is $159 + 12 x $8.33 = $258.96 for 1,200 minutes a month (Notta pricing, Plaud plans).
  2. The phone already in your pocket. Notta's mobile app records and transcribes live on every plan (Notta pricing), so run one real meeting with the phone in the middle of the table before ordering a device. If the transcript holds up, the hardware only has to win the rooms where a phone on the table is awkward.
  3. Your month, sorted by place. Count last month's conversations at a screen, on the phone and face to face away from a desk. If the third group is a handful, a recorder solves a small part of the problem.

What decides it

Software first, or a device first

Notta started as software and launched its recorder on 16 June 2025: its web, mobile and desktop apps work on every plan without one, and the Memo feeds recordings into the same workspace (Notta Memo). Plaud describes its AI as the intelligence behind every Plaud device, and its bot-free laptop app, Plaud Desktop, as free with every Plaud device (Plaud Intelligence); its help centre adds that Plaud Desktop needs a Starter membership, which needs a bound device to activate (binding article). More on living with that binding is in Granola vs Plaud. For this choice, it means Notta's whole workflow can be tried on a phone and a laptop before any purchase, and Plaud's laptop app cannot.

Languages, and two in one conversation

Plaud transcribes 112+ languages on every plan (Plaud plans). Notta transcribes 58 and adds bilingual transcription across 23 language pairs, plus translation of finished transcripts on paid plans (Notta Desktop, Notta pricing). For a single uncommon language, Plaud's list is longer. For a client meeting that switches between Dutch and English, Notta's bilingual mode is the documented answer.

Where unlimited starts

Plaud's Unlimited plan, transcription up to 24 hours a day, costs $20.00 a month billed annually or $29.99 monthly for one person (Plaud plans). Notta's unlimited transcription comes with Business at $16.67 a seat billed annually or $27.99 monthly, which also adds team workspaces, CRM sync and Zapier (Notta pricing). Seat for seat, Notta's unlimited tier costs less, though Notta's import article caps each file at 5 hours, or 3 hours with speaker recognition (import article).

Plans and prices

US dollars, checked on 26 October 2026. Notta, from its pricing page: Free with 120 minutes and a 3-minute cap per conversation; Pro $8.17 a month billed annually or $13.49 monthly; Business $16.67 a seat or $27.99; Enterprise from 51 seats; Notta Memo $149 with a Starter plan of 300 minutes a month included. Plaud, from its plan page: Starter free with 300 minutes a month; Pro $8.33 billed annually or $17.99 monthly for 1,200 minutes; Unlimited $20.00 or $29.99; Team $20 a user a month for the first year under a launch offer, then $25, billed annually.

The weekly digest, with a person reading it

Plaud's MCP server, marked Preview on its plan page, connects recordings to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients, and ships with skills, including plaud-digest for a weekly report and plaud-followup for follow-up emails from action items (Plaud MCP). Its list_files tool filters recordings by a keyword in the recording name and by date. On Friday, ask for every recording from Monday to Friday and a one-page digest of decisions and promises, each with its recording name. A person reads every line against the transcript before the digest goes to the team, because a promise heard wrong is a promise someone will try to keep. Through Claude Web or ChatGPT Web, Plaud notes that recording data passes through its MCP server hosted in the US, processed in transit and not stored.

Notta's equivalent is its CLI, which can sit in your own scripts and run on a scheduler you control, retrieving transcripts or exports each week; Notta says plainly that the CLI provides commands, not a scheduler (Notta MCP and CLI).

The date on Plaud's team price

Plaud's Team plan shows $20 a user a month with an asterisk: the launch offer applies for the first year if bought before 30 November 2026, then $25 (Plaud plans). That is 35 days after this page was checked, shorter than a proper pilot with four people and four devices, so the offer rewards signing before the pilot ends. Budget the team at $25 a user from the start, and treat the $5 as a discount you may or may not get.

Do the free test first: a week of Notta's 7-day Business trial on your phone and laptop shows whether you need hardware at all, at no cost (Notta pricing).

The job each one wins

Choose Notta if your job is calls and meetings at a laptop, in several languages, with the option of the $149 Memo later for the conversations that happen elsewhere.

Choose Plaud if your job is a day of face-to-face conversations and phone calls away from a desk, where a longer microphone range, 64 GB of storage and 112+ languages matter more than the software around them.

FAQ

Can Notta Memo record phone calls?

Yes. In Call Recording mode it captures calls by detecting the phone's vibrations, attached to the back of the phone in its MagSafe-compatible case (Notta Memo).

Do I need a paid plan with either recorder?

Which one transcribes more languages?

Plaud lists 112+; Notta lists 58, with bilingual transcription for 23 language pairs (Plaud plans, Notta Desktop).
