The short answer: if your shows and interviews are already recorded in Riverside, try its Magic Clips before buying anything: they come with Pro, $24 a month billed yearly, and Riverside's pricing FAQ says Magic Clips use no AI credits (Riverside pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). OpusClip earns a second subscription when recordings arrive from several places, Zoom webinars, StreamYard lives, YouTube uploads, and clipping is a weekly job of its own: Pro is $29 a month on monthly billing, or $174 a year, for 300 credits a month at 1 credit per source minute (OpusClip pricing, credits article). Choose Riverside if your job is recording a show and publishing it with its clips. Choose OpusClip if your job is clipping whatever was recorded, wherever.

Before a clip tool joins the stack:
- The cost of the extra tool. For example, four 40-minute episodes a month are 4 x 40 = 160 OpusClip credits, past Starter's 150, so the realistic plan is Pro at $29 a month, $348 over twelve monthly payments, on top of Riverside (OpusClip pricing). That is the bar OpusClip's clips have to clear against the Magic Clips you already pay for.
- Where each recording starts. Riverside records up to 4K video and 48kHz audio with separate tracks per guest (Riverside pricing). OpusClip records nothing; its Pro plan imports from Riverside itself, plus Zoom, Loom, LinkedIn, Dropbox and others (plans article).
- Who edits the full episode. Riverside includes unlimited text-based editing on Pro. OpusClip's editor works on the clips, not the long version.
- A shared scoreboard. For one episode, run both clippers, post three clips from each over two weeks, and compare views to the end on the same channel.
Step by step through one episode
| Step | OpusClip | Riverside |
|---|---|---|
| Recording | Not offered; imports recordings | 4K video, 48kHz audio, separate local tracks |
| Editing the full episode | Not its job | Unlimited text-based editing on Pro |

| Captions | Animated captions in 20+ languages | Customisable captions |
| Getting clips out | Auto post on Starter; scheduler on Pro | Publish to YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Instagram, LinkedIn; scheduling on Grow |
| Hosting the show | Not offered | Podcast hosting and analytics on Pro |
| Automation | Zapier on Pro; MCP server | Riverside MCP on Grow |
| Starting cost-free | Free plan, 60 credits, watermark | 14-day trial on paid plans |

What decides it
The recording itself
Riverside's case starts before any clip exists: studio-quality capture, a teleprompter for the host and in-person multicam on Pro (Riverside pricing). A clip is only as good as its source audio, and OpusClip can only work with what another tool captured. If the recordings are Zoom calls with laptop microphones, the studio question matters more than the clipper.
How the moments are picked
OpusClip scores each clip for virality and, on Pro, lets you search by topic or prompt for a specific moment (OpusClip pricing). Riverside's Magic Clips pick highlights and let you save a preset for ratio, layout, branding and length, then adjust length or choose a focus speaker (Magic Clips page). A team that wants to steer the selection by topic gets more levers from OpusClip.
Recordings from elsewhere
OpusClip's Pro import list runs from YouTube and Google Drive to Zoom links, StreamYard, Twitch and Apple Podcasts (plans article). Riverside can take an upload, but its value is in what it recorded itself. A marketing team with webinars on one platform and a podcast on another clips both in one place with OpusClip.
What each costs
OpusClip on 26 October 2026: Free with 60 credits a month; Starter $15 a month, monthly only, 150 credits; Pro $29 a month or $174 billed yearly, 300 credits a month per pack (OpusClip pricing). Riverside's plan cards read Pro $35 a month or $24 billed yearly, Grow $45 or $34 and Webinar $99 or $79, while its FAQ gives Pro as $29 a month before the annual saving (Riverside pricing). Budget Riverside at the card's figure until the checkout says otherwise; the full gap is covered in Descript vs Riverside.
Drive in, clips out, through Zapier
OpusClip documents a Zapier route that starts from a Google Drive folder (Drive zaps article). The import Zap uses Google Drive's "New File in Folder" trigger and OpusClip's "Clip Your Video" action, so every recording dropped into the folder becomes a clipping project. The export Zap starts on OpusClip's "New Project Completed", loops over the clip files and uploads each one to a second Drive folder. Through Zapier, files must be MP4, MKV or WEBM and no larger than 953 MB.
The human check sits between the two folders: a person watches each clip in the output folder, deletes the ones that cut a sentence off or misstate the guest, and moves the rest to a folder the scheduler reads. Nothing in this loop posts on its own. Riverside's own agent route is its MCP on Grow, used for an episode's asset pack in Descript vs Riverside.
The cap on the automation
OpusClip's Zapier article caps projects created through Zapier on Pro at 300 credits a month, about 5 hours of video, and sends anyone who wants more to sales (Zapier article). The automation is being used to sell the tier above Pro. Size the Zap to the plan you have, and keep manual uploads for the busy month.
The free test
OpusClip's Free plan gives 60 credits a month, watermarked clips and no editing (OpusClip pricing); Riverside's paid plans each start with a 14-day trial (Riverside pricing). Record one episode during Riverside's trial, let Magic Clips cut it, then put the same file through OpusClip Free. If Magic Clips gives you three clips you would post, the second tool can wait.
Choose by the job
- Choose Riverside if your job is a recorded show or interview series where capture quality, editing, hosting and clips belong in one place.
- Choose OpusClip if your job is clipping recordings from several platforms every week, with topic prompts, scoring and scheduling to nine networks.
OpusClip's entry is here. Riverside has no entry; riverside.com is the reference.
Wiring more sources into that Drive loop, a webinar platform's recordings, Riverside exports and an approval step in Slack, is a build of its own rather than a setting; I sell that as agentic marketing work, scoped before anything is automated.
FAQ
Does OpusClip import Riverside recordings?
Yes, on Pro, which lists Riverside among its import sources alongside Loom, LinkedIn, Dropbox and others (plans article).
Do Riverside's AI credits run out?
Pro starts with 2,000 AI credits for translation, AI B-roll and animated clips, and more can be bought; Magic Clips, Magic Audio and the AI Co-Creator use none (Riverside pricing).
How long does OpusClip keep monthly credits?
60 days, so a month's unused credits carry into the next; yearly credits are granted up front and last 12 months (credits article).
