Ranktracker vs Ahrefs: Daily Positions or Weekly Depth

The short answer: if positions move daily and someone needs to know before the weekly report, during a launch, a migration or in local search, Ranktracker's Launch plan checks 500 keywords a day down to position 100 for $39 a month on monthly billing, with unlimited users (Ranktracker pricing, checked on 24 October 2026). Ahrefs refreshes its Rank Tracker weekly on every plan, from 750 keywords on the $129 Lite plan (Ahrefs pricing). It is the pick when rankings are one input among links, audits and competitor research, not the whole job.

Three numbers to pull from your own data:
- Your real keyword count, multiplied out. Ranktracker counts every keyword in every engine and location: its usage article turns 2 keywords in 2 engines and 4 locations into 16. For example, 150 keywords on Google and Bing in two cities is 150 x 2 x 2 = 600, past Launch's 500 daily checks but well inside its 3,500 weekly ones.
- The positions Google already gives you. The Search Console performance report shows average position by query and page for free. Export the 50 queries that bring clicks; that list is your tracking set.
- How often anyone reads the report. A monthly board pack does not need daily checks. A product launch, a site migration or a shop whose rankings swing by day does.
- The agreement test after two weeks. Search Console averages every impression, a tracker records one check from one place, so the two will differ (Search Console help). What should match is the direction of travel. If it does not, question the tracker.

How they split
How often a position is checked
This is the line that decides most cases. Ahrefs' Rank Tracker page lists weekly updates and weekly or monthly competitor alerts, and its pricing table shows weekly on Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise alike. Ranktracker lets you trade frequency for volume: on Launch, 500 keywords daily or 15,000 monthly, per its pricing page. If a ranking drop on Tuesday has to be explained by Wednesday, weekly data arrives too late.
Who can log in
Ranktracker lists unlimited users and unlimited projects on every plan, plus a shareable tracking link for clients, per its pricing page. Ahrefs Lite includes one user and sells up to two more at $40 a month each (pricing). For example, an agency of four people on Ahrefs needs Standard, at $249 plus three extra users at $60, which is $429 a month.
What else comes in the box
Both bundle more than tracking, and neither sells its tracker alone. Ranktracker's plans include a Keyword Finder on a database of over 3.5 billion keywords, a backlink checker on 2.6 trillion links and a web audit (pricing). Ahrefs' plans add the deeper research layer: Site Explorer on an index of 170 trillion pages (homepage), Keywords Explorer and a Site Audit that executes JavaScript. A team already paying for research elsewhere gets more from Ranktracker's daily data; a team that wants one research platform gets more from Ahrefs.
The free baseline first
Before either trial, Search Console is the tracker you already have. Its performance report gives average position by query, page, country and device for your own site at no cost (Search Console help). If what you need is a trend line for your own pages, that may be enough. Ranktracker's 7-day trial asks for no payment details and simply expires, per its pricing FAQ, and Ahrefs Free shows the keywords a verified site ranks for. Use both on the 50 queries you exported.

Monthly billing in USD, from the Ranktracker pricing page, the Ahrefs pricing page and the Starter plan post. At 2,000 keywords, daily checks cost $149 and weekly ones $249. Ahrefs' annual billing brings Lite to $108 a month.
About the sale banner
Ranktracker's pricing page opened with a sale named after a Google spam update: 30% off annual plans, a countdown of under three hours, and a warning that recent SERP changes leave many trackers with incomplete data, so a keyword at position 35 can show as not found (pricing). The same FAQ says no refunds are offered during the promotion. An industry problem framed beside a timer is there to close the annual sale before the trial is over. The claim about other trackers is the vendor's own; use the 7-day trial to check your 50 keywords, then decide on the annual price, whatever the clock shows.
Asking the tracker what dropped
Ranktracker documents a hosted MCP server for Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other clients, connected by an administrator with OAuth, on plans with API access (MCP documentation). It exposes 14 tools: 13 read-only, plus one that re-runs an existing report. Tools that would spend credits, such as adding keywords or refreshing rankings, are deliberately not exposed. One step of a Monday routine: the assistant answers "which of my tracked keywords dropped the most this week?" from the daily ranking history. A person then opens the captured results page for the three biggest drops before anything goes into the client update, because a drop can be a SERP feature that moved in, not a page that fell.
Ahrefs offers the same kind of access on Lite and above through its MCP server, drawing on monthly API units.
Choose Ranktracker if your job is
- Daily positions for launches, migrations or local search.
- Tracking for a team or clients, with unlimited users and share links.
- Rank tracking as the main purchase, with lighter research tools thrown in.
Choose Ahrefs if your job is
- Rankings read alongside links, audits and competitor research in one place.
- Weekly reporting, where daily movement is noise.
- Starting from keywords a site already ranks for, with history imported from Site Explorer.

FAQ
Does Ahrefs offer daily rank tracking?
Not on its published plans. The pricing table lists weekly updates for Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise, and the Rank Tracker page says the same.
Can I buy only Ranktracker's rank tracker?
No. The pricing FAQ says every plan includes all its tools and none is sold separately.
Is there a refund on the annual sale price?
No. The pricing FAQ says refunds are not offered during the current promotion, which is why the 7-day trial exists, checked on 24 October 2026.
