Decktopus vs Canva: A Pitch Coach or the Design Tool You Own

The short answer: a founder who makes three pitch decks a quarter and a dozen social posts a week already owns the right design tool: Canva Pro is US$18 a month for one person on monthly billing, and Guided Presentations turn a prompt into an editable deck (Canva pricing, Canva presentations, checked on 26 October 2026). Decktopus earns a place beside it for the part Canva does not script, the rehearsal: its Loop coach comes with Pro at $9.99 a month billed yearly (Decktopus pricing). Choose Decktopus if your job is pitching and being ready for the hard questions. Choose Canva if your job is designing everything, the deck included.

Three numbers to write down first:
- What both together cost. For example, Decktopus Pro on yearly billing ($119.88) plus Canva Pro on yearly billing (US$144) comes to $263.88 a year, using the Decktopus and Canva pricing pages. Against that, Decktopus charges 5 credits per generated slide (credits article), so a 12-slide pitch costs 60 credits and Pro's 750 a month cover 12 of them.
- The brand you have already set up. Canva keeps it in Brand Kits: one with 3 colours on Free, 5 on Pro (Canva pricing). Decktopus pulls your visual identity from your website URL, and its FAQ lists the shared Brand Kit as a Business feature (Decktopus pricing).
- A readiness number before the meeting. Loop scores each rehearsal from 0 to 100 and keeps every attempt (Loop guide). Note the last score before each pitch and whether the meeting led to a next step; after five pitches you will know whether the score means anything for you.

What separates them
A topic in, or a template in
Decktopus writes structure, words and design from a topic or an uploaded file, and says on its pricing page that it uses no templates. Canva starts you from one of its templates or from Guided Presentations and leaves the layout to you. If you enjoy shaping slides, Canva's way costs nothing extra. If the blank page is the bottleneck, Decktopus removes it.
The hour before the meeting
Canva's presentation tools stop at delivery aids: recording, presenter notes on a phone, polls and quizzes (presentations page). Decktopus spends its effort on preparation, with a coach that asks the questions your audience will ask. For a fundraising round or a large client pitch, that hour can matter more than the slides.
Prices, checked on 26 October 2026
Decktopus Pro costs $24.99 billed monthly, $19.99 a month billed every three months or $9.99 a month billed yearly ($119.88); Business costs $44.99, $39.99 or $19.99 a month per seat on the same terms (Decktopus pricing). Canva Pro costs US$18 a month or US$144 a year for one person, and Business US$25 a month or US$250 a year per person, before tax (Canva pricing).
Rehearsing a pitch with Loop's agents
Decktopus documents Loop as four AI agents in a row, each handling one stage of preparation (Loop guide). The first, Emily, interviews you about the situation, audience, goals, format and place, reads the deck you attach, and can run web research on the people you will meet. Marcus turns that into a storytelling framework, a timed narrative and speaking notes you can download as a text file. Red Team plays your stakeholders as avatars and asks the awkward questions, with a coach suggesting better answers. Stage listens to the rehearsal, tracks words per minute and filler words, and returns the 0 to 100 Readiness Score.
Two human checks belong in that sequence. After Emily's research, verify anything she found about a named person against their own company page or profile, and keep personal details out of the deck. After Marcus's notes, read every figure in the script against your source: a confident speaker repeating a wrong number is worse than a nervous one with the right one. If the deck itself makes claims about results, run the review in Draft a Sales Deck With AI, Then Source Every Number.
The slider on the pricing page
Decktopus's plan estimator opens at 6 presentations a month of about 10 slides each and, at that setting, says you need about 900 AI credits and points to Business (pricing page). At the credits article's own rate of 5 credits a slide, those 60 slides cost 60 x 5 = 300 credits, which Pro's 750 cover with room to spare (credits article). The gap is AI edits, which cost 5 credits each as well. Move the slider to your own month, and count your edits, before you trust the recommendation.
Free first
Run the same pitch brief through both free routes: Canva Free with Guided Presentations, and Decktopus's free first deck, which cannot be exported and carries a watermark (free trial article). Compare the drafts on the slides you would keep unchanged. Then pay for Decktopus only if you will use Loop before real meetings; the slides alone your Canva account already covers.
- Choose Decktopus if your job is pitching to investors or clients, with a generated first draft and a coach that rehearses you against your audience.
- Choose Canva if your job is all of your brand's design, with decks made from templates in the tool your team already uses.
The Decktopus entry has the full plan details; for a deck tool that works from locked templates instead, see Decktopus vs Beautiful.ai.
FAQ
Does Canva coach your delivery?
Not on the pages read. Canva's presentations page lists recording yourself and your screen, presenter notes on your phone, offline presenting, and polls and quizzes (presentations page); no rehearsal scoring is described.
Can Decktopus use the brand I set up in Canva?
Not directly. Decktopus reads your visual identity from your website URL (pricing page), so the brand comes across if your website already carries it.
Is Loop on every Decktopus plan?
The pricing page lists Loop as included on Pro and above (pricing page), so budget for Pro if rehearsal is the reason you are buying.
