Plus AI vs Canva: Slides in PowerPoint or a Canva Design

The short answer: if your decks must leave as PowerPoint or Google Slides files built on the company's own template, Plus AI puts the AI inside those apps, from $10 a user per month on annual billing, or $15 month to month (Plus AI pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Canva builds decks as Canva designs that export to PowerPoint, PDF, video or a website, which suits a team whose slides sit next to its social posts and ads, from US$144 a year for one person on Pro (Canva pricing, Canva presentations). Choose Plus AI if your job is decks that live in the slide software your company already runs. Choose Canva if your job is decks as one format in a brand's wider design work.

The two answer different questions. Plus AI asks how to add AI to the slide app you cannot leave. Canva asks why you would leave the design tool you already use to make a deck.
What to count first:
- The people the bill covers. For example, a sales team of six on Plus AI Basic pays 6 x $10 x 12 = $720 a year on annual billing, and Plus upgrades the whole organisation rather than single users (billing guide). The same six on Canva Business pay 6 x US$250 = US$1,500, since Canva Pro is for one person only (Canva pricing).
- The template you already own. Plus AI's Team plan saves your logo, colours and fonts, and its pricing FAQ puts generation from your organisation's real slide masters on Enterprise (Plus AI pricing). In Canva the brand lives in Brand Kits: one on Free, five on Pro, a hundred with approvals on Business.
- The designer's pass. For a month, mark every generated deck that needed a designer before it went out. If most did, the AI saved typing, not design time, and the cheaper option wins.

What splits them
Your file, or a new canvas
Plus AI writes into the presentation you already have open: insert a slide, rewrite text, remix a layout, or generate a deck from a prompt in Google Slides or PowerPoint, under one subscription for both apps (pricing FAQ). Nothing has to be imported or exported for IT, legal or a client who insists on .pptx. Canva works the other way round: the deck is made in Canva and leaves as a file when someone needs one. A team that presents from Canva never feels that step. A team whose finance director edits the numbers in PowerPoint feels it every quarter.
Metered per person, or by multiples
Plus AI's credits belong to each user, are not shared across the organisation, and a typical agent task uses 40 to 170 of them (billing guide). Canva sells AI as a pooled allowance per plan, described as multiples of the free tier, with an AI Pass add-on on top (Canva pricing). Plus AI's meter can be budgeted per person in credits; Canva's is stated in multiples of the free tier, which you translate into uses yourself.
What the deck carries besides slides
Canva exports a deck as a video slideshow or a Canva website as well as a PowerPoint file (presentations page). Plus AI's output is a presentation and nothing else. If the same story has to become a LinkedIn carousel and a landing page, Canva covers the next three jobs too.
The prices, plan by plan
Plus AI, per user: Basic $120 a year on annual billing or $15 a month; Pro $240 a year or $25 a month; Team $360 a year or $40 a month; Max $2,400 a year or $240 a month (Plus AI pricing). Canva bills a single Pro user US$144 for the year, or US$18 a month, and each Business seat US$250 for the year, or US$25 a month, before tax (Canva pricing). Checked on 26 October 2026.
One automated step: a deck requested in Slack
Plus AI documents a Zapier route that needs no code (Zapier guide). Connect Plus AI in Zapier with an API key from the add-in. The trigger is a Slack mention containing "Make a presentation". The Plus AI action Create Presentation takes the message as its prompt; a two-minute Delay by Zapier step follows; Get Presentation fetches the result; and a final Slack step posts the PPTX file URL back to the channel.
Put the human check between that link and the customer. The account owner opens the file in PowerPoint, applies the company template if the Zap did not, and reads every price, date and client name against the deal record before anything is sent. Point the Zap at a private channel, since the file link lands wherever the reply goes. For Canva's MCP server at work on campaign assets, see AdCreative.ai vs Canva.
The plan you pick for the trial
Plus AI's trial gives 1,000 credits whichever plan you choose, and when the seven days end your card is charged for that plan automatically, with no refunds on subscription payments (pricing FAQ, billing guide). Selecting Max for the trial buys nothing extra during the test and sets up a $240 monthly charge the moment it ends. Start the trial on Basic or Pro, the plan you would keep, and diarise day six.
Free first
Plus AI has no free plan: the billing guide says a paid plan is required. Canva's free plan is the free test here. Build next week's sales deck in Canva Free from a prompt, export it to PowerPoint, and open the file where your team edits decks. If the export survives your template and your finance director, Canva is enough. If it does not, start the Plus AI trial with the same brief.
Choose Plus AI if your job is decks that must stay native PowerPoint or Google Slides files, built by people who will not leave those apps.
Choose Canva if your job is decks that sit beside social posts, ads and one-pagers in one brand system, presented from Canva or exported when someone asks.
Plus AI's credits, plans and agent are covered in the Plus AI entry, and how to use Plus AI works through a pitch deck in PowerPoint.
FAQ
Is there a free version of Plus AI?
No. Its billing guide says you need a paid plan; new customers get a 7-day trial with 1,000 credits and a card on file, and earlier customers get no second trial.
Can a Canva deck be edited in PowerPoint afterwards?
Yes. Canva's presentations page lists PowerPoint among the export formats, with PDF, video slideshow and Canva website.
Can I buy Plus AI for one person in a larger organisation?
Not inside the same organisation: the billing guide says the whole organisation is upgraded and individual users cannot be, with each added user billed pro rata straight away.
