The short answer: every agency says it will improve results. Few arrive having looked at the prospect's own ads. Bring one scored ad to the first call instead of a capabilities deck, and use AdAlign to score it. Its free audit returns the overall score with no account, and a free account adds the four-dimension breakdown and 5 audits a month (free audit FAQ), which is five prospects a month at no cost. The sequence: find the prospect's live ad in a public ad library, ask permission to score it, run the audit, send a short note with the weakest dimension, then connect their account read-only on the call so the score turns into a spend figure.

Disclosure: I earn a commission if you buy AdAlign through a link on this page, and this page recommends it. Every claim about AdAlign links to AdAlign's own pages.

A score with one specific mismatch in it is a better opening than any case study slide. It is about their money, not your past.

Before you pick a prospect, three things:

  1. The free allowance, as pitches. Five audits a month is five prospects at one ad each, or four prospects and one re-check after a fix. For example, an agency booking three first calls a week books 3 x 52 / 12 = 13 a month. It outgrows the free account in the second week, and should score only the calls it most wants to win.
  2. The sources you already have. The Meta Ad Library holds every active ad running across Meta's apps, and anyone can search it (About the Meta Ad Library). Google's Ads Transparency Center lets you search an advertiser by name or website and see the ads it has served on Search, Display and YouTube (Google ads transparency). Your phone does the rest.
  3. The measure for the method. Mark each pitch in your CRM as audited or not, and compare first-call-to-proposal rates after a quarter. If the audited calls convert no better, the audit is a ritual. Drop it.

Before the call

  1. Find one live ad with a clear offer. Search the brand in the Ad Library or the Transparency Center and pick an ad that names a price, discount or product. Offers are where pages most often fail to follow through.
  2. Ask before you score it. AdAlign's agencies page suggests running the free audit on a prospect's live ad and its page before the first call (agencies). Its terms of service, last updated 28 October 2024, ask users to submit only ads and landing pages they have the right to analyse (terms). Both pages were read on 27 October 2026. Settle it with one line in your outreach: "May I score one of your live ads against its landing page before the call?" A yes is consent, and a warmer call.
  3. Run the audit. Paste the landing page URL, then upload the ad screenshot or paste the ad's URL (free audit). AdAlign captures the page as a visitor sees it above the fold, and returns a score in about 60 seconds for an image ad. Video takes longer, because key frames and audio are processed first.
  4. Send a note, not a report. Three sentences: the score, the weakest dimension, and the one change you would make first. "Your ad promises free returns; the page mentions them once, in the footer" is specific. "Your funnel has friction" is not.
  5. Check it yourself on a phone. Open the ad and the page on a phone before you hit send. If you cannot see the mismatch the tool named, leave it out of the note.

On the call

The free audit has no idea what the ad spends. The money appears only when the account is connected. AdAlign's agency page builds the pitch around that moment: connect the prospect's account read-only on the call, and show spend at risk per landing page (agencies).

The connection is an OAuth sign-in to Meta or Google Ads, with a login that can see the account. AdAlign reads ads, creatives, destination URLs and spend, and never edits a campaign (how it works). Either the prospect authorises the connection during the call, or they give you read-only access beforehand. In Google Ads, the Read-only level can view campaigns and run performance reports but cannot edit them (access levels). On Meta, the owner shares the ad account with your business portfolio through Partners in Business Suite. To do that they need full control of their portfolio, and your portfolio ID (partner access). Send those two links with the calendar invite.

Then walk the ranked list: the page costing the most, its weakest dimension, and the fix. Stop after three pages. The rest is the proposal.

If the prospect does not sign, disconnect the account the same week. AdAlign bands agencies on the spend of the accounts they connect (pricing), so a prospect who said no should not sit in your band. Its privacy policy says synced Google Ads data is purged within 30 days of disconnecting (privacy policy).

Tell the prospect, in the same breath, what the connection stores. AdAlign's FAQ says ad content and landing page data are kept, anonymised, to build industry benchmarks, and are not shared with third parties (FAQ). EU marketing leads ask. The ones who do not ask still notice whether you told them.

After the call

AdAlign's suggestion is to make the consolidated landing-page report your first deliverable (agencies). It lists every ad pointing at a page with its share of spend and score, so the prospect's web team can act on it whether or not they sign with you. That is the point. A deliverable they can use without you is the strongest argument that they should not have to.

What the free tier is designed to collect

The overall score is free to anyone. The breakdown you need to write a specific note sits behind a free account, so AdAlign gets a sign-up before you get the detail that makes the pitch work. For a working scorer, that is a fair exchange. Just know what you are standing in: the top of AdAlign's own sales funnel, built the same way you are building yours.

Free first, then the agency plan

Everything before the call is free: the ad libraries, the audit, your phone. The Ad Roast adds a shareable version of the critique, if a prospect wants something to forward internally.

The connected part is paid. AdAlign, which pays me a commission, prices agencies on the combined spend of every client account connected. The Growth band runs from €590 a month for up to €75,000 of monthly spend in total, after a €1,500 paid 30-day pilot that is credited to the first invoices (pricing, checked on 27 October 2026). Score the first prospect in the free audit, and book the demo when you want to see the on-call connection run on an account of your own. The product is summarised in the AdAlign entry. The reporting routine that follows a win is in how to report ad and landing page alignment to clients.

FAQ

What if the prospect's ad scores well?

Say so. A 9 out of 10 tells you the landing pages are not where their money leaks, and saying that on the call buys more trust than a stretched finding. Score a second ad, or pitch on something else.

Can I audit a prospect that advertises on TikTok or LinkedIn?

Yes, one ad at a time. The free audit accepts Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn and Reddit ads (free audit). The on-call connection covers Meta and Google Ads only. The others are scored by upload (pricing).

Should the prospect connect to my workspace or book AdAlign's own demo?

Your workspace, if you want the pitch to be yours. AdAlign's demo connects one account read-only and walks through its spend at risk with AdAlign's team (demo). That is useful for evaluating the tool. It also puts another party on your sales call.
