Keywords Everywhere vs Ahrefs: Browser Metrics or a Research Index

The short answer: you are right to suspect these are not substitutes. Keywords Everywhere puts Google Keyword Planner volumes on pages you already browse, from $7 a month billed as $84 a year (Keywords Everywhere pricing). Ahrefs is a research index built on its own crawler, with a $29 Starter plan and a $129 Lite plan on monthly billing (Ahrefs pricing). Pick Keywords Everywhere when the question is how many people search for something. Pick Ahrefs when it is who ranks for it, and on the strength of which links.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
The gap in price is a gap in scope. One answers a question at the moment you have it, inside Google or YouTube. The other answers questions you go looking for, about competitors, links and whole domains.
Before you switch:
- Run the three-person sum. For example, Keywords Everywhere's Silver plan gives 3 seats for $168 a year. Ahrefs Lite reaches three people only with two paid add-on logins: $129 + 2 x $40 = $209 a month, so 12 x $209 = $2,508 over a year of monthly billing, using the add-on user price on the Ahrefs pricing page.
- Use the free tiers you can open today. Ahrefs Free shows the keywords and backlinks of a site you verify, and Keywords Everywhere's free features include traffic estimates and Moz link metrics with no API key, per its homepage.
- Count last month's questions. List what you needed to know in the past four weeks. If every item was a volume, a CPC or a trend, the cheap tool covers it. If several were about competitors' links or traffic, it does not.
Decision points
| Decision point | Keywords Everywhere | Ahrefs |
|---|---|---|
| Where you see the data | Inline on Google, YouTube, Amazon, Search Console and 15+ other sites (homepage) | Inside the Ahrefs app: Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit, Rank Tracker (pricing) |
| Where volumes come from | The same data Google Keyword Planner provides (FAQ) | Its own keyword database; the homepage claims 41.9 billion keywords tracked (homepage) |
| Backlinks | Top 1,000 to 10,000 per website by plan; Moz link metrics free | Site Explorer on an index the homepage puts at 170 trillion pages |
| Rank tracking | Absent from the extension; a free stand-alone checker covers positions | 750, 2,000 or 5,000 keywords on Lite, Standard, Advanced, updated weekly |
| People | 1, 3, 10 or 20 seats | One user per plan; extras at $40 (Lite, 2 at most), $60 (Standard, 5) or $80 (Advanced, 10) a month |
| Billing | Annual only, credits expire after a year | Monthly; annual through support; Starter renews monthly only |
| MCP for AI assistants | Yes, on the same credits (MCP page) | Lite and above (SEO MCP) |
| Free tier | Free features without an API key | Ahrefs Free for verified sites |
What decides it
Data at the moment of search, or data you go and get
Keywords Everywhere works while you browse. Search Google and the volume, CPC and trend sit under the search box; open Search Console and they appear beside your queries, per its FAQ. Ahrefs makes you go to it, and repays the trip with depth: a domain's full keyword set, its pages ranked by traffic, its referring domains over time.
Two different meters
Both meter usage, in different units. Keywords Everywhere sells credits by the year, one per keyword shown, expiring a year after purchase. Ahrefs Lite gives each user 1,000 credits a month for reports, with Standard and above unlimited per user, and Starter gives 200 credits a month, per the pricing page and the Starter plan post. Starter's 200 credits suit someone checking a few domains a month, not someone mapping a market.
Links and competitors
Keywords Everywhere does show backlinks, up to the top 1,000 per website on Bronze and 10,000 on Platinum, per its pricing page. Ahrefs is built on that data at scale: link intersect, content gaps, broken backlinks from Standard, and history going back 6 months on Lite and 5 years on Advanced, per its pricing page. If links are part of your plan, this line decides it.
Both free tiers, before either bill
Open both free tiers in the same week. Verify your site in Ahrefs Free to see which keywords it ranks for and who links to it. Install Keywords Everywhere and use its free widgets for keyword ideas. If that combination answers the routine questions, the paid decision shrinks to one missing number rather than a whole tool.

Figures in USD, read on 24 October 2026 from the Keywords Everywhere pricing page, the Ahrefs pricing page and the Starter plan post. Above Gold sits Platinum: $1,440 a year for 20 seats.
Read Ahrefs' FAQ on automatic charges before you invite anyone. It says additional users are charged automatically on a pay-as-you-go basis if not prepaid, and that enabling pay-as-you-go credits means automatic charges once you pass the plan's limits (pricing FAQ). Usage billing is built to keep work flowing past the plan, which is the vendor's interest. Keep it switched off unless someone has decided the overage is worth it.
An agent step Ahrefs documents
Ahrefs' SEO MCP page connects live Ahrefs data to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Copilot Studio on Lite and above. One of its example prompts takes a list of 10 sites in your niche and asks which grew organic search traffic over the past 6 months, in order. The assistant returns the ranking; a person then opens the top three movers in Site Explorer and checks which pages drove the growth before the finding goes into a plan. A chart of a rival's traffic is an estimate, and a plan built on it deserves one human look.

- Checking volume, CPC and trend in the moment, inside Google, YouTube or Amazon.

- Feeding keyword metrics to an AI assistant on credits you already hold.
Choose Ahrefs if your job is

- Auditing your own site and tracking a few thousand keywords weekly.
- Researching new markets from a single index.

FAQ
Are Keywords Everywhere's volumes the same as Ahrefs'?
Not necessarily. Keywords Everywhere says it uses the same search volume data Google Keyword Planner provides, per its FAQ; Ahrefs uses its own database. Check five keywords you know well against your Search Console impressions and trust whichever tracks them more closely.
Can I use Ahrefs without paying?
Yes, within limits. Ahrefs Free needs no card and lets you use a reduced Site Explorer and Site Audit on sites you verify, plus a free version of AI Content Helper. Keywords Explorer and Rank Tracker start on paid plans.
Does Keywords Everywhere have an Ahrefs-style API?
It has a REST API and an MCP server on the same credits as the extension, per its MCP page. Ahrefs offers API and MCP access from Lite, with rows per request set by plan on its pricing page.
