Keywords Everywhere vs Semrush: Extension or Workspace

The short answer: if the job is seeing search volume, CPC and a trend line beside every Google search while you write, Keywords Everywhere does it for $84 a year on its Bronze plan, with 100,000 credits (pricing). It sits in your browser and stops there: no rank tracking, no site crawl. Once those become the job, Semrush is the workspace built for them, from $139 a month on monthly billing for 5 websites and 500 keywords checked daily (Semrush pricing).
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
One is a layer over pages you already visit. The other is a place you log into, with projects, positions, a crawler and a keyword database you query from inside the app. Paying for both is not waste when each covers a different person's day.
Before you buy either:
- Price a real search. The vendor's own FAQ gives an example: a Google search that shows 8 related, 20 "people also search for" and 25 long-tail keywords costs 1 + 8 + 20 + 25 = 54 credits, per the Keywords Everywhere pricing page. Bronze's 100,000 credits then cover 100,000 / 54 = 1,851 such searches a year, or 5.07 a day.
- Start with the browser you have. Installed without an API key, the extension already shows traffic estimates, Moz link metrics and keyword lists for free, according to its homepage. If that covers your briefs, nothing needs buying today.
- Check your markets. Its FAQ says English is the language it covers extensively, across Global and seven locations: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India. Semrush's homepage claims 142 geo databases. Selling in the Netherlands or Germany changes the answer.
- Decide how you will know it helped. Mark the pages you brief with the new data, and after 30 days compare their Search Console clicks with pages briefed the old way.
What each one is
| Product | Form | How you pay | Rank tracking | Site audit | People |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keywords Everywhere | Extension for Chrome, Firefox and Edge, on 15+ sites | Yearly plans of credits, 1 credit per keyword | Not in the extension; a separate free Website Ranking Checker uses the same key | None | 1, 3, 10 or 20 seats sharing one API key |
| Semrush | Web app with projects | Monthly or annual plan with fixed limits | 500 keywords, checked daily, on SEO and Starter | 100,000 pages a month on SEO | 1 user, $45 for each extra on SEO |
Both connect to AI assistants: Keywords Everywhere through an MCP server on the same credits, Semrush through MCP with 50,000 API units on Starter and Pro+. Both have a no-cost start: the extension's free features need no API key, and Semrush's free plan gives 1 demo project and 10 reports a day. The three differences that matter
Where the work happens
Keywords Everywhere puts figures on Google, YouTube, Amazon, Search Console and other sites while you use them, per its homepage. The research happens in passing, inside someone else's interface. Semrush asks you to come to it: you set up a project, it watches the site and the rankings, and you return to read what changed. If nobody on the team returns, a project-based tool turns into an invoice.
What a lookup costs
The extension charges for each keyword it shows, whether or not that keyword has any volume, and a Search Console page listing 500 keywords spends 500 credits, according to the pricing FAQ. Credits expire a year after purchase. Semrush charges a flat fee and caps the work instead: 3,000 reports a day and 10,000 results per report on the SEO plan, in its plan comparison. Heavy, steady research favours the flat fee; light or occasional research favours the meter.
Positions and pages
The FAQ is plain that the extension does not track your rankings over time, and points to the vendor's separate free Website Ranking Checker, which checks positions daily with the same API key. Nothing in the extension crawls your site. Semrush's SEO plan does both: its plan comparison gives every paid plan a tracked-keyword quota and a monthly crawl.
One step an agent can take
Both vendors document an MCP server. Keywords Everywhere's runs on the same key and the same credits as the extension, for example one credit per keyword returned, per its MCP page. The agent can take a draft brief, pull volumes for the 150 candidate phrases in it, and return them grouped by intent for 150 credits. A person then checks the location setting and picks the target phrase, because a volume from the wrong country looks just as precise as the right one. Semrush's connection is read-only and draws on 50,000 MCP API units that refresh on the renewal date, per its MCP article.
Plans and prices side by side
| Keywords Everywhere plan | Per year | Credits | Semrush plan | Per year, billed annually |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | $84 | 100,000 | SEO | 12 x $117.33 = $1,407.96 |
| Silver | $168 | 400,000 | Starter | 12 x $165.17 = $1,982.04 |
| Gold | $480 | 2 million | Pro+ | 12 x $248.17 = $2,978.04 |
| Platinum | $1,440 | 8 million | Advanced | Quoted on request |
USD, from the Keywords Everywhere pricing page and the Semrush pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026. Keywords Everywhere bills every plan annually and has no monthly option; Semrush also sells monthly, at $139, $199 and $299. At the top of the extension's range, Platinum and the Semrush SEO plan billed annually are $32.04 a year apart, which is the point where the question stops being price and becomes which job you need done.
A trial is built to get you working inside the product. Semrush's subscriptions article says exports are switched off during every trial and return once you pay, so plan a Semrush trial around reading reports, not around building a spreadsheet you expect to keep.
Choose Keywords Everywhere if
- Your job is sizing demand while you write, brief or browse.
- Your markets are mostly English-speaking, and research is light or occasional.
- You want a low yearly cost that several people can share on one key.
Choose Semrush if
- Your job includes tracking positions and auditing the site, not only finding phrases.
- You research markets outside the extension's listed locations.
- You need positions, competitors and audits in one place your team returns to.

FAQ
Is there a monthly Keywords Everywhere plan?
No. Every plan is billed annually and can be cancelled at any time, per the pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026.
What happens when the credits run out?
The extension stops showing volume, CPC and competition, but keeps listing keywords in its Related and "people also search for" widgets, according to the pricing FAQ.
Can Semrush's free plan stand in for the extension?
For occasional checks, it can. The free plan gives 10 reports a day across the main tools with no card, per the Semrush pricing page, which suits looking up a handful of keywords rather than seeing figures on every search.
