The short answer: if you track thousands of keywords across many client sites and want one yearly bill with no meter on keywords or crawled pages, SEO PowerSuite Professional does that for $349 a year (SEO PowerSuite pricing). The trade is that it runs on your computer, which has to stay on for scheduled checks. If several people need the same data in a browser, with daily rank checks that run whether or not a laptop is open, Semrush's SEO plan at $139 a month on monthly billing is the simpler fit (Semrush pricing).

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

SEO PowerSuite is four desktop applications under one licence: Rank Tracker, WebSite Auditor, SEO SpyGlass and LinkAssistant, for Windows, macOS and Linux, per its homepage. Semrush runs in the browser as a web service and charges for the limits each plan sets. One is software you install and license by the year; the other is a service you log into. That single fact explains most of what follows.

Before you switch:

  1. Compare a year with a year. Professional costs $349 a year and Enterprise $599. The Semrush SEO plan billed annually is 12 x $117.33 = $1,407.96, so even Enterprise is $808.96 a year cheaper, per the SEO PowerSuite and Semrush pricing pages.
  2. Find the machine that will do the checking. Scheduled tasks only run while the app is open, minimised to the tray, on a computer that is not asleep or hibernating, per the Rank Tracker scheduling manual. A laptop that goes home at night will not run a 06:00 check; an office desktop or a cloud machine will.
  3. Count your keywords and pages. From Professional up, SEO PowerSuite tracks unlimited keywords and crawls entire websites. Semrush's SEO plan tracks 500 keywords and crawls 100,000 pages a month, with 20,000 per website, per the two pricing pages (SEO PowerSuite, Semrush).
  4. Check the task log after a month. The scheduler can re-run missed tasks automatically, per the same manual. If you find gaps in a month of daily checks anyway, the desktop setup is not holding, whatever the licence saved.

Where they differ, line by line

Moving from Semrush's SEO plan to SEO PowerSuiteWhat changes
Where the work runsFrom a browser to a desktop app on Windows, macOS or Linux (homepage)
How you payFrom monthly or annual plans to a yearly licence, with 2-year and 3-year terms paid up front (SPS pricing, Semrush pricing)
Tracked keywordsFrom 500 on SEO (1,500 on Pro+) to unlimited on Professional
Site crawlFrom 100,000 pages a month to entire websites on Professional; the free version stops at 500 URLs
CompetitorsTo 5 per project on Professional and 40 on Enterprise (SPS pricing)
Client reportsFrom 3 base reports and a $20-a-month white-label Pro Report to white-label, saved, emailed and scheduled reports on Enterprise
SharingFrom Viewer or Editor access on every Semrush plan to project files you save and store (scheduling manual)

Starting freeFrom a free plan with 10 reports a day to a free version with no time limit

The three differences that matter

Who runs the checks

With SEO PowerSuite, the rank checks and crawls run from your own machine. Its homepage ties the pricing to that, saying a desktop tool does not pay for server storage, and the same design is why the scheduling manual asks you to keep the app running and the PC awake. Semrush is a web service, so its daily tracking does not depend on a computer in your office. For a consultant working from one desk, the desktop model is fine. For a team spread over homes and offices, it is one more thing to look after.

How much the database knows

Semrush's homepage claims 29 billion keywords and 43 trillion backlinks. SEO PowerSuite's pricing page claims 216 million keywords and 6.5 trillion backlinks in its index. Both are vendor claims, counted their own way, but the gap in keyword data is wide. If your work is discovering new keywords in competitive markets, test both on a topic you know before deciding the licence saving is worth it.

Who else sees the work

Semrush shares projects with Viewer or Editor access on every plan, per its plan table, though each extra user who logs in costs $45 a month on SEO. SEO PowerSuite projects are files on your drive or in cloud storage, and client-facing output (white-label templates, PDF saving, emailed and scheduled reports) needs the $599 Enterprise licence, per its pricing page. Its own homepage FAQ warns of a steep learning curve, which matters when a junior inherits the files.

One step an agent can take

Semrush documents monitoring through its read-only MCP connection: an assistant set up in ChatGPT, Claude or Claude Code can watch competitor activity or keyword movements on a schedule and flag shifts, per its MCP article. Applied here, the agent checks your 50 most valuable keywords each morning and writes a short note of anything that dropped more than five places; a person opens the page in question and decides whether it is a real loss or a fluctuation. The SEO PowerSuite pages read for this comparison list no MCP server or agent connection; its automation is scheduled tasks and email alerts, so this step belongs to Semrush.

USD, from the SEO PowerSuite pricing page and the Semrush pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026. Semrush also bills monthly at $139 for SEO and $299 for Pro+.

Use the free versions as the test. SEO PowerSuite's free edition has no time limit and allows one unsaved project, 500 crawled URLs and 1,100 backlinks, per its pricing page; Semrush's free plan needs no card. Crawl your own site in the SEO PowerSuite free edition and look up the same domain in Semrush's free reports on the same day, before paying either.

The multi-year terms deserve a second look. Paying three years of Professional up front costs $717 against 3 x $349 = $1,047 for three single years, per the pricing page. The vendor gets the money now and you carry the risk that your needs change in year two, so take the longer term only after a full year on the shorter one.

Choose SEO PowerSuite if

  • Your job is tracking very large keyword sets across many sites on a fixed yearly budget.
  • One person or a small office does the work from computers that stay on.
  • You are comfortable with desktop software and files rather than a shared browser app.

Choose Semrush if

  • Your job is research in a large keyword and backlink database, not only tracking.
  • Several people in different places need the same live data.
  • You want daily checks that run without a machine of your own switched on.

FAQ

Does SEO PowerSuite need my computer to be on for scheduled checks?

Yes. The software is desktop and cannot start on its own, so it must be left running, minimised to the tray, with the PC kept from sleeping or hibernating, per the Rank Tracker scheduling manual.

Is there a monthly SEO PowerSuite plan?

No. The pricing page offers 1-year, 2-year and 3-year licences, with Professional at $349 a year, per the SEO PowerSuite pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026.

Which licence do agencies need for client reports?

Enterprise, at $599 a year. White-label reports, saving and emailing them as PDF or HTML, and scheduled delivery are listed there and not on Professional, per the pricing page.
