The short answer: if your team's videos are short demos, ads and social clips whose final cut already exists and needs captions and translated subtitles, VEED is the closer fit: Pro is $45 per user a month on monthly billing and translates subtitles into 50+ languages (VEED pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). If the videos are long recordings, webinars, podcasts, interviews, that need cutting before anyone captions them, Descript fits better, because you edit the recording by editing its transcript; Creator is $35 per person a month on monthly billing (Descript pricing).

Check these against your team:
- Four people, priced. For example, four editors on VEED Pro pay 4 x $45 = $180 a month on monthly billing, and an invitation not yet accepted is already a paid seat (seat billing article). Descript Creator stops at three people, so a team of four moves to Business: 4 x $65 = $260 a month on monthly billing (Descript pricing).
- The footage you shipped last quarter. If most of it arrived as a finished cut from a designer or an agency, the job is captions and languages. If most of it was a raw recording someone trimmed, the job is editing.
- One timing to beat. Hours from final cut to captioned, translated files for your last video, measured before either trial.
What each one is for
VEED is a browser editor whose centre is subtitles: generated in the spoken language, styled, translated, burned in or exported, with AI avatars, generation and dubbing added around it (VEED homepage). Descript is an editor whose centre is the transcript: delete a sentence and the video under it goes, then captions, clips and translation follow (Descript).

The deciders
A finished cut, or a raw recording
VEED assumes the edit is mostly done and makes it watchable on mute and in other languages. Descript assumes the edit has not started: its Free plan already includes transcription, text-based editing and dynamic captions (Descript pricing). A 3-minute product demo goes to VEED. A 50-minute customer panel goes to Descript first.
Languages, by plan
On VEED, subtitle translation is a one-time try on Free and Creator, and Pro, Studio and Enterprise translate within their allowance, using AI credits (translation guide). On Descript, dubbing and translation with a proofreading step sit on Business at $65 a month (pricing). For subtitles in five markets, VEED Pro is the cheaper door.
Seats that count before anyone works
VEED multiplies the plan price by every person in the workspace, and charges a prorated amount the day someone is added (seat billing article). Descript sizes its shared pool of media minutes and AI credits by the number of Editor seats, and Viewers cannot use the features that draw on it (usage article). On VEED, invite only the people who edit.
What it costs
On 26 October 2026 VEED's monthly view showed Creator at $25 per user with 500 credits, Pro at $45 with 2,500 and Studio at $79 with 15,000. The yearly view moved: across separate loads the page showed Creator at $10 or $12 a month and Pro at $19 or $22, with different credit allowances beside them (VEED pricing). Descript: Hobbyist $24 or $16 billed annually, Creator $35 or $24, Business $65 or $50 (Descript pricing). Screenshot the VEED offer you are shown before you subscribe.
A corrected transcript into burned-in captions
The two connect. Descript's MCP lets Claude or ChatGPT import a recording, run edits and export the transcript as SRT (Descript MCP). VEED's Subtitles API takes a video URL and an optional srtContent field that skips transcription, applies a style preset and returns an MP4 with the subtitles burned in, as an async job you poll (Subtitles API page). So ask the assistant to export the SRT from the Descript project and send it, with the final video's URL, to VEED's API in the brand's preset. The human check comes first, not last: an editor corrects product names and figures in Descript's transcript before the export, because whatever is in the SRT is burned into every frame.
Paying for the agent's thinking
Descript charges each Underlord request for the model's reasoning as well as the tools it runs, routes requests to models with different prices, and says plainly that two similar requests can cost different amounts (usage article). The vendor is paid for the attempt whether the edit lands or not. Write narrow prompts, name the scene, and read the Usage tab after the first week.
The free round
VEED's free exports carry a watermark that cannot be moved, and translation is a single try (watermark article, translation guide). Descript's Free plan gives 60 media minutes a month (Descript pricing). Subtitle and translate one finished demo in VEED, and cut one raw webinar segment in Descript. Each tool will show you which half of your work it shortens.
Choose by the job
- Choose VEED if your job is captioning, styling and translating short finished videos for social and sales, across a team that shares brand kits.
- Choose Descript if your job is editing long recordings into publishable cuts, with captions and clips made from the edited version.

FAQ
What does VEED charge when someone joins mid-month?
The days left in the cycle. Its own example: on a $30 plan, a collaborator added with 29 of 30 days left costs $29 that day, then the full price per seat from the next billing date (seat billing article).
Which Descript plan dubs video into other languages?
Business, which translates and dubs in 30+ languages with a proofreading step (Descript pricing).
Can VEED's Subtitles API use a transcript I already corrected?
Yes. Pass the SRT in srtContent and the API skips transcription and styles your text (Subtitles API page).
