ClickFunnels vs Shopify: One Offer or a Product Catalogue

The short answer: if most of your orders are one product plus an add-on, ClickFunnels is built for that sale; if they are baskets of several products shipped from stock, Shopify is. The card rate will not settle it, because both charge 2.9% + 30¢ online on their entry plans, which cost $97 a month on ClickFunnels Launch and $39 on Shopify Basic (ClickFunnels pricing, ClickFunnels payments guide, Shopify pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). ClickFunnels wins the job of selling one course, coaching programme or digital product with an upsell; Shopify wins the job of running a catalogue with stock, shipping and perhaps a till.

Shopify sells itself as commerce for anywhere a buyer happens to be: an online store, a counter in a shop, social feeds, marketplaces and now AI chats, where shoppers check out inside the conversation, per its homepage. ClickFunnels starts from the other end. It assumes one offer and asks how much each buyer will spend once they have said yes, which is why its homepage files one-click upsells, one-time offers and order form bumps under a single word, UpSell. A store widens the shelf. A funnel deepens the order.
Before you pick a side:
- Price the subscription gap. For example, $97 - $39 = $58 a month on monthly billing, or $81 - $29 = $52 a month billed yearly, from the ClickFunnels and Shopify pricing pages.
- Decide whether your payment processor stays. For example, $20,000 a month of sales through your own Stripe account on Shopify Basic adds a 2% third-party fee, $400, before Stripe's own charge; moving to Shopify Payments removes it, per the Shopify pricing page. ClickFunnels lets you bring an existing Stripe account into Payments AI and adds nothing above the processor rate (payments guide).
- Count what your orders hold. Export the last 90 days of orders and count how many contained more than one product. One product plus an add-on, again and again, points to a funnel. Mixed baskets point to a store.
- Name the number for day 30. Average order value, and the share of buyers who take the add-on. ClickFunnels reports earnings per click and sales per funnel step (funnel analytics); Shopify's plans include 200+ real-time reports (pricing page).
The entry plans, line by line
| Line on the bill | ClickFunnels Launch | Shopify Basic |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly billing | $97 | $39 |
| Yearly billing, per month | $81 | $29 |
| Online card rate | 2.9% + $0.30 through Payments AI | 2.9% + 30¢ through Shopify Payments |
| With a processor of your own | No platform fee added | 2% per order |
| Logins | 2 team members | Extra staff accounts start on Grow |
| Contacts for marketing | 10K, with 50K emails a month | Unlimited contacts |
| Trial | 14 days, and a 30-day money-back window after it | Three free days, then $1 a month for three months |
Read on 26 October 2026 on the ClickFunnels pricing page, the ClickFunnels payments guide and the Shopify pricing page. One step up, Shopify Grow costs $105 a month or $79 billed yearly, lowers the online card rate to 2.7% + 30¢ and the third-party fee to 1%, and adds up to 5 staff accounts.
Three differences that decide it
What one sale looks like
In ClickFunnels the sale is a sequence. The buyer reaches a checkout page, can tick a second product as an order bump, and after paying lands on a one-click upsell page. In Shopify the sale is a basket: unlimited products, inventory across 10 locations on Basic, shipping labels you buy and print, and in-person payments from a phone or card reader, all listed in the plan table on the pricing page. If your average order is a single item, the basket tools sit idle. If it is four items, the upsell sequence has little to work with.
Where buyers find you
Shopify pushes the product out to where people already shop: social, marketplaces, its Shop app and AI chats. It even sells a separate Agentic plan at $0 a month for selling in AI channels, paid for per sale (pricing page). ClickFunnels pulls the buyer in: unlimited visitors and 5 custom domains on Launch, with traffic coming from the ads and emails you send to the funnel (pricing page).
What else comes in the box
ClickFunnels bundles the things an expert sells around an offer: courses, a community, appointments, sales pipelines and an affiliate centre. Shopify bundles the things a retailer runs behind a store: taxes, shipping, point of sale, B2B catalogues and marketplace order imports. Neither bundle is wrong. Each one assumes a different business.
Product copy drafted by Sidekick, approved by a person
Shopify documents the review step itself: Sidekick reads the store's data and shows each proposed change for you to review, applying it only after that. For a catalogue, that suits the slowest job of all, product descriptions.
- Save your house style as a skill, so Sidekick follows the same instructions every time instead of being told again.
- Ask it to draft descriptions for one collection. Longer tasks keep running in the background, and Sidekick notifies you when they are ready.
- The human check: a person reads each proposal against the product facts (materials, sizes, care, any claim about results) and applies only the ones that match.
ClickFunnels' counterpart works at the scale of a whole funnel: Build with AI researches the market, designs the pages and writes the copy. Its help page warns that changes go live immediately, with earlier versions restorable, so let it work on a funnel buyers cannot reach yet.
The free test, and the paid one
The order count from the list above costs nothing, and for most businesses it decides the question on its own. Run the trials only after it.
Then read the trial terms as what they are. Shopify gives three free days and then charges $1 a month for three months, per its pricing page: by the time the full $39 arrives, the catalogue, the theme and the checkout settings already live in Shopify, and moving them is a cost that lands on you rather than on Shopify. Build the store in those months if the count says store. If it says funnel, a 14-day ClickFunnels trial with a test order through the upsell is the cheaper experiment.
ClickFunnels is the fit when your job is
- Selling one course, coaching programme or digital product, and raising revenue per buyer with a bump and an upsell.
- Running the offer, the course delivery and the follow-up emails from one login.
- Keeping your current Stripe account without a platform percentage on top.
Shopify is the fit when your job is
- Selling a catalogue of physical products with stock in more than one place.
- Taking payment online and in person on the same system.
- Listing products where buyers already search, including AI chats.
The ClickFunnels entry and the Shopify entry describe each product; how to use Shopify recovers abandoned checkouts, and how to use ClickFunnels adds a bump and an upsell.
When the count comes back split, a catalogue on one side and a coaching programme on the other, each defended by the person who chose its tool, the trouble sits in the stack rather than in either product. A stack review settles that before two subscriptions run side by side; mine, the one-week Startup Fixer, is sold for exactly that job.
FAQ
Which costs less at $5,000 a month in sales?
Shopify Basic, on the subscription alone. For example, 100 orders worth $5,000 paid through each platform's own payments cost 0.029 x $5,000 + 100 x $0.30 = $175 in card fees on either, so the plan price decides: $39 against $97 on monthly billing (Shopify pricing, ClickFunnels payments guide).
Is Shopify Payments required?
No. Another provider works, with a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, per the pricing page.
Can ClickFunnels run a store?
It sells a Store app and a Smart Checkout, and its MCP server lets an AI assistant manage products, stores and checkout setup. Inventory locations, shipping labels and in-person sales, which Shopify lists on every plan, do not appear on the ClickFunnels pricing page.
