The short answer: for a marketing team of 8 that wants plans, docs and chat in one place, ClickUp's Core plan costs 8 x $9 = $72 a month billed yearly and runs 1,000 automations a month (ClickUp pricing). monday.com's team-size selector steps from 5 seats to 10, so the same 8 people price at 10 Standard seats, $120 a month billed yearly, with 250 automation actions (monday.com pricing). Both read on 26 October 2026. ClickUp wins the one-app job on price. monday.com wins when sales, service or dev will later run on the same platform as marketing.

What decides it:
- Seats as each vendor counts them. ClickUp bills every member of the workspace once it upgrades, per the FAQ on its pricing page. monday.com starts paid plans at 3 users and sells seats in steps of 3, 5, 10, 15 and up. For example, 11 people cost 11 x $9 = $99 a month on ClickUp Core and 15 x $12 = $180 on monday.com Standard, both billed yearly.
- The rules you already run by hand. List every "when this happens, tell that person" step in the current spreadsheet or chat channel, and count how often each fires a month. On monday.com, a rule that notifies a board's subscribers spends one action per person notified (actions article); a team that notifies widely runs through 250 quickly.
- The apps the new tool should replace. ClickUp's plan includes docs, chat and forms; monday.com's includes boards, docs, views and, from Standard, calendar and Gantt. Write down which current subscriptions end if the tool works.
- One number for day 30. Tasks past their due date at month end, set against the month before the switch.
Where each plan runs out
| What runs out | ClickUp Core, $9 a seat | monday.com Standard, $12 a seat | What happens at the cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automations | 1,000 a month | 250 actions a month, plus 250 for integrations | ClickUp pauses automations for the month (limits); monday.com gives a 72-hour grace, then pauses (actions) |
| AI | 1,000 credits per user a month, pooled | 2,000 credits a month for the account | ClickUp sells 10,000 more credits for $10; monday.com lets you add credits (monday pricing) |
| Seats | Every workspace member | 3 minimum, sold in steps | ClickUp bills each member; monday.com bills the step you choose |
| Free plan | Unlimited members, 60 MB, one form | 2 seats, 3 boards, 3 docs | Calendar view is free on ClickUp and starts at Standard on monday.com |
| Safety net before committing | 30-day money-back on the first paid plan (pricing article) | 14-day Pro trial, no card (trial article) |
What separates them
One app, or one platform with several products
ClickUp's homepage sells one workspace for tasks, docs, chat and AI agents, with more than 100 products inside it. monday.com sells boards first: rows of items, columns for owner, status and dates, and views on top, with monday CRM, monday service and monday dev priced on the same pricing page. If the CRM question is live, the HubSpot vs monday.com and Pipedrive vs monday.com comparisons cover it.
Two ways of metering automation
ClickUp counts each action an automation dispatches, successful or not, against the month's allowance, and a skipped action costs nothing (Intro to Automations). monday.com counts actions too, but mapping several columns into a new item or notifying a group spends several per run, and on Standard a heavy month can borrow from the next one (actions article). A team that automates handovers gets four times the room on Core for a lower seat price.
Which price list you will see
ClickUp's pricing page shows one of two price lists on any given visit: Core at $9 and Business at $17 billed yearly, with AI included, or the older Unlimited at $7 and Business at $12, with AI as an add-on. Its pricing article settles which applies: new workspaces start on the new plans, and existing ones keep theirs until ClickUp moves them, with price changes no earlier than January 2027.
Prices, checked on 26 October 2026
ClickUp, per user a month on the new plans: Core $9 billed yearly or $12 monthly, Business $17 or $25, Enterprise on quote, from its pricing page. monday.com, per seat a month: Basic $9 or $12, Standard $12 or $14, Pro $19 or $24, Enterprise on quote, before tax, with the final price set by your billing country (pricing page). Automations and the Calendar view start on monday.com Standard; on ClickUp, 1,000 automations come with Core and a calendar view comes free.
ClickUp's pricing page includes a savings calculator that lists monday.com at $9 a user, which is monday's Basic rate, the plan without the automations and Calendar view that start on Standard at $12 (ClickUp pricing, monday.com pricing). A calculator on a vendor's own page is set up to show the saving; redo it with the monday.com plan you would buy, and the gap is narrower than the preset says.
One agent job: the weekly overdue report
ClickUp's Super Agents article lists a weekly report of overdue tasks for a project as a first job for an agent. Activate the AI ClickApp, describe the agent in plain language, scope it to the campaign Space, and give it a Friday trigger. ClickUp logs every Super Agent action and has them ask a person before critical decisions. The human check: the campaign lead reads the report before it goes to the team channel and corrects any task the agent marked overdue that was rescheduled by agreement. monday.com does the same job with its AI agent builder, a Jobs tab trigger and access limited to the boards you grant (AI agents article); how to use monday.com builds a weekly status agent step by step.
Choose ClickUp if your job is
- Putting requests, plans, docs and team chat in one workspace and retiring two or three other apps.
- Automating handovers heavily on a mid-size budget: 1,000 automations a month on Core at $9 a seat (pricing).
- Starting free with the whole team invited and no card.
Choose monday.com if your job is
- Planning campaigns on visual boards that sales, service or product teams will join on their own monday products.
- Giving clients guest access to a board from Standard, at $12 a seat billed yearly (pricing).
- Building agents that act only inside the boards you grant, with a run log to review.
Entries: ClickUp and monday.com.
Try both free, then look at the handovers
Both can be tested without paying: ClickUp's free plan takes the whole team, and monday.com's 14-day trial needs no card, though its trial article runs it on Pro, with 25,000 actions rather than Standard's 250, so build within Standard's limits if Standard is the budget. Move one live campaign into each. If the same handovers slip in both, the gap sits in how work passes between people rather than in either tool, and a one-week review like the Startup Fixer maps that before another subscription starts.
FAQ
Which ClickUp prices apply to a new account?
The new plans: Core at $9 and Business at $17 per user a month billed yearly. ClickUp's pricing article says new workspaces start on them, while older workspaces keep their plans until ClickUp moves them.
Is monday.com free for a small team?
For up to 2 seats, with 3 boards and 3 docs; AI features start on Basic (pricing). Paid plans start at 3 seats.
Can Claude work in either tool?
Yes. ClickUp runs an MCP server at mcp.clickup.com with setup steps on its developer site, and monday.com's MCP page connects Claude after an admin installs the app, limited to what the account's permissions allow.
