How to Use Frase to Go From One Query to a Reviewed Draft

The short answer: add your site and connect Search Console, check the Brand Hub, run Research on one query with your goal and audience set, pin at least one keyword plus the headings, questions and evidence worth using, generate the brief, approve or reject each fact and source, choose who writes, work the scores to 70 or above, and push the article to your CMS as a draft for a final human read. A research run that fails does not count toward your monthly limit, per the Frase research guide.

The work that matters happens before the draft. A brief built on pinned evidence and approved sources produces an article you can stand behind; a draft generated from a bare keyword produces one you have to fact-check line by line. Frase is set up to make the first route the default. For what the plans include and cost, see the Frase glossary entry.
What decides the quality:
- The allowance. Starter's 10 articles a month at $49 month to month works out at $49 ÷ 10 = $4.90 an article, on the pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026. Spend them on queries you would have written anyway.
- Your own evidence. Pin the figures and claims you already trust, from your product pages, reports or customer data, so the brief carries them instead of whatever the ranking pages say.
- A score is not a result. Frase's scoring guide rates drafts 0 to 100; whether the page earns clicks shows up later in Search Console.
What you need first
- A Frase trial or plan; the 7-day trial needs no credit card.
- Owner-level access to your Search Console property if you connect a client's site, per the data guide.
- One query that matters to the business, and the audience and goal for the piece.
- A CMS connection, or FraseCMS, which is included on every plan.
Step 1: Connect your site and data
Click the site selector, choose Add Site and let Frase crawl it. Then go to Settings, Integrations, and connect Google Search Console, which powers Content Opportunities, SEO Analytics and Content Guard, per the data guide. Connect your CMS from the same screen.
Step 2: Check the Brand Hub
Review the brand voice, competitors and business details Frase compiled from the crawl. The content workflow guide warns that if the Primary Offering or Business Type is missing, the article is written without describing your business. Topics on the never-write-about list under Brand Voice, Terms are refused by research, per the research guide.
Step 3: Run the research
Go to Plan & Create, Research, and click New Research. Enter the topic, query or working title, check the content language and target market, and open Audience, goal & brand guidance to set the goal, the audience and the Brand Hub voice. Click Run research. Each run counts toward the monthly research limit, per the research guide.
Step 4: Pin what goes into the brief
Scan the sections: Keywords, What ranks & headings, Opportunities, Questions, Evidence & insights, Competitors and Topic directions. Pin at least one keyword, because unpinned suggestions are left out of the brief. Pin the headings, questions and evidence worth keeping; the guide says competitor headings are used as inspiration, not copied. The Sources link shows every page the research analysed.
Step 5: Generate the brief and approve the facts
A complete brief holds a section-by-section outline, target keywords, evidence mapped to sections and a do's and don'ts guide. In the Facts panel, approve or reject each fact, then reject any source you do not want cited, per the content workflow guide. Rejected facts and sources stay out of the draft.
Step 6: Decide who writes
In the Article Outline section, click Assign and choose Frase writes, I write, or a mix, which Frase marks as Split work. My recommendation: for a piece that carries your name or numbers, write the opening and the argument yourself and assign the reference sections to Frase.
Step 7: Work the checklist and scores
Open the Checklist tab for topic coverage, structure, authority signals and meta tags, then the Score tab for EEAT, GEO and SEO. The guide says to aim for 70 or above and work on whichever score lags furthest. Keywords only count as whole words, per the scoring guide.
Step 8: Publish as a draft
Click Publish to CMS, choose the destination, and push the article as a draft rather than a live post, per the publishing guide. The last read happens in your CMS, next to your other pages.
One step for an AI assistant
Frase's MCP connects from the Claude directory, or from Claude Code with your API key, per the MCP guide. Ask it to research your keyword and create a brief. The guide says Claude asks permission the first time it uses each Frase tool and checks with you before publishing or making changes.
Hold that line. Let the assistant run research and the brief, then open the brief in Frase and approve the facts yourself before anything is drafted, and keep publishing as a manual click.
What the docs and Google warn about
- Empty research. A section only appears if the research found something; Review setup adjusts the topic, per the research guide.
- Thin brand context. Missing business details produce generic copy.
- Keywords inside longer words. They earn no SEO credit.
- Unchecked AI copy. Google's generative AI guidance says to fact-check and review all AI-generated content before publishing, and its spam policies treat many AI pages without added value as scaled content abuse.
An article allowance is a meter, and a tool sold by the article benefits when you use all of it. Nothing obliges you to: spend it on the queries that matter and review each piece.
FAQ
Does a failed research run count against my limit?
No. Each run counts, but a run that fails does not, per the research guide.
What score should a draft reach before publishing?
The guide suggests 70 or above on each, working on the lowest first, and calls 70 to 85 or more a solid SEO score, per the scoring guide.
Can I import an existing brief instead of researching?
Yes. Choose New Content, then Import Brief, from a PDF, Google Docs or a URL, per the content workflow guide.
