The short answer: if the question in your leadership meeting is whether ChatGPT recommends your brand, ChatGPT cannot answer it at scale, and Writesonic can: Starter runs 50 tracked prompts every day across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews for $99 a month, or $79 a month billed annually (Writesonic pricing). If the question is who writes the content, ChatGPT does that from a free plan up, with Plus at $20 a month (ChatGPT pricing). Both checked on 26 October 2026. Choose Writesonic if your job is measuring and closing gaps in AI answers; choose ChatGPT if your job is drafting, research and analysis for the people on your team.

The odd thing about this pair is that one is inside the other. ChatGPT is one of the answer engines Writesonic watches, and Writesonic's data can be read from inside ChatGPT through its app (Writesonic MCP server). Writesonic still writes, 15 to 50 AI articles a month by plan, but its homepage sells it as an AI search growth engine first (Writesonic homepage).
What decides it:
- The cost of one tracked answer. For example, Starter's 50 answers a day over a 30-day month are 50 x 30 = 1,500 answers, so at $99 a month each one costs $99 / 1,500 = $0.066 (Writesonic pricing). Checking the same 50 by hand in ChatGPT is 50 chats a day before you have looked at Gemini.
- The questions you already hear. Sales call notes, support tickets and the queries in Search Console contain the wording buyers use. Fifty of them are Starter's whole allowance; write them down before the trial so you are not tracking the vendor's suggestions.
- One number, read weekly. The share of tracked prompts whose answer names you, per platform, against a four-week baseline. Writesonic's own homepage measures each fix at day 14 and day 28 (homepage).

What sets them apart
Measuring an answer, or giving one
ChatGPT answers the question in front of it and remembers what your settings allow. It does not, on any plan page, report how often it named your brand last week. Writesonic runs your chosen prompts every day and records mentions, citations and sentiment, then ranks fixes in an Action Center that is a trial on Growth and full on Enterprise (Writesonic pricing). Someone who only needs content does not need the tracking. Someone who has been asked about AI visibility cannot get it from the chat window.
An article pipeline, or a conversation
Writesonic's Article Writer runs each article through what it calls 100+ steps across 10 phases, and can write from your own brand brief, product docs and customer research first, with web research filling gaps (AI Article Writer). The plan caps how many: 15 a month on Starter, and only Growth can buy 20 more for $100 (pricing). ChatGPT has no article quota; Plus limits are usage caps that can tighten at busy times (ChatGPT Plus). It also does no SERP research or citation checking unless you prompt for it.
Who gets a login
Writesonic counts users per plan, one on Starter, with extra users at $50 a month on Basic and Growth (pricing). ChatGPT is priced per person from the start, and Business seats are $25 a month billed monthly or $20 billed annually (OpenAI business pricing).

The agent step: ChatGPT reads Writesonic, a person picks the work
Writesonic documents an app in ChatGPT's app directory, backed by its MCP server, for any active paid plan with at least one project of tracked prompts (Writesonic MCP docs). Its tools include finding prompts where competitors appear and your brand does not, and pulling the Action Center's recommendations. The job: on Monday, ask ChatGPT to list the five tracked prompts where rivals appear and your brand is missing, with the third-party pages cited in each answer, then to draft a one-page brief for the most commercial of them.
Two human checks. A marketer reads the five prompts against the real questions from sales and drops any nobody asks. Then the brief's facts are checked against the product before anyone writes a page. The same server can also create and edit tracked prompts from chat; keep that change with a person, since the prompt list is the baseline every later number is compared with.
Free before paid
ChatGPT's free plan and a spreadsheet run the manual version: twenty prompts asked weekly, answers pasted in, brand named or not. Track your brand in AI answers lays out that sheet. Writesonic's 7-day trial needs no card (homepage, pricing FAQ); run your own fifty prompts in it and compare its counts with your sheet for the same week.
Writesonic's pricing page opens on the annual toggle, so the first price a visitor reads is $79 with "Save $240/year" beside it, while month to month is $99. Annual billing means twelve months paid up front, against a refund window of seven days (pricing FAQ). Click Monthly before you start the trial, and commit to the year only after a month of numbers you trust.
The verdict
Choose Writesonic if your job is knowing where AI assistants mention competitors instead of you, and working through content, citation and technical fixes with a measure attached.
Choose ChatGPT if your job is writing, research and analysis for each person on the team, with visibility tracked by hand or not at all.
The Writesonic entry covers its plans, and how to use Writesonic follows one missing prompt to a published fix. ChatGPT has no entry here; its site is chatgpt.com.
