Upfluence vs GRIN: Fixed Fee or a Fee on Every Deposit

The short answer: if you put $8,000 a month into paying creators, GRIN's Starter plan costs $200 plus a 10% fee on wallet deposits, $1,000 a month on top of the $8,000 itself, or $12,000 a year, billed month to month and with prices on the page (GRIN pricing). Upfluence charges a fixed platform fee that takes no percentage of sales, quoted after a call, on a 12-month minimum (Upfluence pricing FAQ). Both read on 26 October 2026. So the decision is one sum: GRIN's yearly cost at your creator budget against Upfluence's annual quote, and then the job each wins, GRIN for an AI agent that runs gifting and outreach for a small team, Upfluence for recruiting creators from your own customers and paying them worldwide.

Work out three things first:
- Which GRIN plan your budget lands on. Each tier adds a monthly price and lowers the fee on deposits: Free $0 and 20%, Starter $200 and 10%, Growth $500 and 7%, Scale $1,500 and 5% (GRIN pricing). For example, Free and Starter cost the same at $2,000 deposited a month, since 20% of $2,000 = $200 + 10% of $2,000; Starter and Growth meet at $10,000, where $200 + $1,000 = $500 + $700; Growth and Scale meet at $50,000, where $500 + $3,500 = $1,500 + $2,500. Below $2,000 Free is cheapest, then Starter to $10,000, Growth to $50,000, and Scale above.
- Your creator spend and stores from last year. Total paid to creators in fees and commissions is the deposit figure GRIN's fee runs on; gifting-only campaigns need no deposit. Note where orders came from: GRIN connects Shopify in one click or a custom store through its API; Upfluence's codes work in Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce and Amazon stores (GRIN pricing, Upfluence homepage).
- The sales figure you will trust. Both platforms report code and link sales per creator. Decide now that you will also check total new-customer orders over the same weeks, for the reason in the last section.

What separates them
A fee that follows your budget, or one that does not
GRIN's cost rises with every dollar you set aside for creators, and the tiers bring the rate down as the budget grows. Upfluence's argument runs the other way: the fee is fixed, so the more your creators sell, the less you pay in proportion (Upfluence pricing FAQ). For example, at $25,000 a month in deposits, GRIN Growth costs $500 + 7% of $25,000 = $2,250 a month, $27,000 a year. That is the number to hold up against Upfluence's annual quote.
An agent that runs the programme
GRIN puts Gia on every plan, the free one included. You describe the outcome, Gia prepares a plan of matched creators, a programme and drafted outreach, and you choose which steps need your approval (Gia page). Upfluence's Jaice builds the campaign and writes the emails, and its MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT search and check creators once beta access is granted (Jaice article, MCP article). A two-person team that wants the legwork done leans to GRIN.
Getting in and getting out
GRIN's self-serve plans bill monthly with a card or ACH on file, and reaching a limit prompts an upgrade rather than an overage charge (GRIN pricing). Upfluence's minimum contract is twelve months, with a dedicated account manager for the term (Upfluence pricing FAQ).
GRIN's plans, and the Upfluence gap
Monthly, in US dollars, checked on 26 October 2026 on the GRIN pricing page:
| GRIN plan | Per month | Fee on deposits | Gifts | Creator search a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 20% | 10 in total | 1,200 |
| Starter | $200 | 10% | 100 | 12,000 |
| Growth | $500 | 7% | 300 | 36,000 |
| Scale | $1,500 | 5% | 1,000 | 120,000 |
GRIN counts search in result pages and assumes about 12 creators a page. Paid partnership and affiliate campaigns need at least $250 in the wallet; gifting alone needs none. Upfluence publishes no figure on its pricing page: it sells Find Creators, Scale Programs and Auto-pilot modules and quotes them on a first call.
One AI step: a gifting campaign drafted by Gia
Ask Gia in plain language, for example for 30 skincare creators under 100K followers to invite to a spring gifting programme. Gia finds the matches, builds the programme and drafts the outreach, then stops on a plan for you to approve or edit (GRIN pricing). The person's job for the first campaign: set the controls so every outreach message needs approval, open each matched profile, cut anyone whose audience is wrong for you, and read the drafts before they go. Gia can be asked the same from Slack or from your own AI tools through MCP (Gia page). Once a month of drafts has needed no rewriting, loosen the approvals.
The ad label on creator posts and what GDPR allows you to keep about creators are covered in the creator vetting use case.
Choose Upfluence if your job is
- Recruiting creators from your own customers and Klaviyo list, across several store platforms.
- Paying a large roster worldwide, with identity checks and tax forms.
- Spending enough on creators that a percentage fee would outgrow a fixed one.
Choose GRIN if your job is
- Running gifting, affiliate and paid programmes with a small team and an AI agent doing the legwork.
- Seeing the price before a sales call, and paying month to month.
- Starting free, with two live campaigns and ten gifts, before a budget is approved.
Upfluence has an entry on this site; GRIN does not, so check its own pricing page.
Check the sales before you scale either
The free check needs no platform. Take last quarter's code and link orders per creator, and set them beside your total new-customer orders for the same weeks. For example, if new customers using creator codes rose by 300 in a month while total new customers rose by 120, and nothing else changed, at least 300 - 120 = 180 of the code users would have arrived anyway and picked the code up on the way. Both platforms report the orders that carried a code or link, and that count is not the same as the orders a creator caused.
GRIN's fee is taken when you fund the wallet, not when a creator delivers, and its pricing page says it is not refunded if you later withdraw unspent money (GRIN pricing), so a budget parked for a campaign that never runs has already paid GRIN its share. Fund the wallet campaign by campaign rather than for the quarter.
If that comparison of code orders against total new customers becomes a monthly job across every creator, a causal attribution tool such as Causality Engine runs it continuously (disclosure: I founded it).
FAQ
Does GRIN take a cut of creator earnings?
No. GRIN says it takes nothing from what creators earn; its fee is added on top of the deposits you make (GRIN pricing).
Is Upfluence cheaper than GRIN?
It depends on your creator budget, and only Upfluence's quote can settle it. Work out GRIN's yearly cost at your deposit level with the break-evens above, then ask Upfluence for the 12-month total of the modules you need (Upfluence pricing FAQ).
What happens when GRIN's Starter trial ends?
Billing starts automatically at $200 a month unless you switch to Free or another plan first, and deposits made during the trial carry Starter's 10% fee (GRIN pricing).
