The short answer: if you want an AI SDR on a fixed monthly plan that finds prospects and writes the first message, Reply.io's Jason starts at $500 a month on annual billing for 1,000 active contacts; Instantly's nearest equivalent, its AI Sales Agent, is billed per lead from a separate credits plan. If your own people write the emails and the job is volume, Instantly's Hypergrowth tier sends 125,000 emails a month for $97, less than two seats on Reply.io's entry tier at 2 x $59 = $118.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
What Reply.io changes for the reader is who does the prospecting. Its homepage puts a database of over a billion contacts, LinkedIn and calling steps and an AI SDR in one account. Instantly is built around the send itself, with its lead database and AI agents on a second subscription, per its pricing file.
Before you compare prices:
- Count people, then emails. For example, 1,000 new people a month on a four-step sequence is 4,000 emails. That is one seat on Reply.io's 1,000-contact Email Volume tier at $59, or Instantly's Growth plan at $47, which holds exactly 1,000 uploaded contacts and 5,000 emails, on the Reply.io and Instantly pricing pages.
- Watch the end of the billing month. Reply.io's limits article counts a contact again when a follow-up lands in the next billing month, so a sequence launched in the last week of a cycle draws on two months of allowance.
- Count the mailboxes you already own. Reply.io's "unlimited" mailboxes on Email Volume follow a fair-use table, 25 per 1,000 active contacts, and Multichannel includes 5 on monthly billing or 10 on annual, with extras at $29 a month each, per the same limits article. Instantly connects any number on every plan.
- Pick the number you will judge it by. For an AI SDR, meetings booked per 1,000 active contacts; for a sending engine, replies per mailbox. Reply.io's owner can export the month's active contacts as a CSV from Plans and Billing to check what was billed.

Where the two models split
People against emails
Reply.io charges for reach: a contact counts once a month however many follow-ups it gets, per its pricing page. Instantly charges for sends and storage. On email alone, Instantly is cheaper at every size worked out here. For example, 10,000 new people a month on four steps is 40,000 emails: $179 on Reply.io's 10,000 tier, or $97 on Instantly's Hypergrowth, which holds 25,000 contacts, per its pricing page. Reply.io's price buys the channels and data beside the email.
Who writes the first email
Jason is Reply.io's answer to a hiring question. On annual billing it starts at $500 a month for 1,000 active contacts and two LinkedIn accounts, and the Growth tier at $1,500 covers 5,000 contacts and ten LinkedIn accounts; monthly billing starts at $800, per the pricing file. Instantly prices its agents per action instead: 5 credits for each lead the AI Sales Agent generates and 5 for each reply the AI Reply Agent drafts.
Prices on 24 October 2026
In USD, checked on 24 October 2026 on the Reply.io pricing page and the Instantly pricing page. Reply.io's Email Volume runs $59, $69, $79 and $99 per user a month for 1,000 to 5,000 active contacts, then $179, $299, $499 and $999 with unlimited users for 10,000 to 100,000; annual billing lowers the first rung to $49. Multichannel is $99 per user, or $89 annually. Instantly's Outreach tiers are $47, $97 and $358, or $37.6, $77.6 and $286.3 billed yearly. A 15% promo code for Multichannel sits on Reply.io's page beside a countdown timer.
Test both on one list, split in two
The free test is enough to decide on its own. Reply.io's trial gives 14 days of Email Volume features, two mailboxes and 300 active contacts; a LinkedIn add-on bought during it is charged only for the days left. Instantly's trial gives 14 days, two accounts, 250 leads and 1,000 emails, no card. Split one list of 250 in half, send the same copy from the same kind of mailbox, and compare replies and bounces. Never load the same people into both.
Letting the agent draft while a person sends
Jason has an Approval mode, set in the sequence under Jason AI, then Settings. Choose All steps, or First steps only, where Jason's opening message waits for review and follow-ups send on their own. Drafts sit on the Pending approvals page, where a person edits, regenerates with a short prompt, or approves singly or in bulk. One trap the article flags: deleting a pending draft also removes that contact from the sequence.
Instantly's equivalent is the reply side. Its AI Reply Agent can run in Human-in-the-Loop mode, where nothing sends until someone approves it, and Autopilot only unlocks from Hypergrowth.
A grid that grades itself
Reply.io's pricing file includes a "Reply vs Instantly" table in which Reply comes out ahead on every row, and Instantly's only ticks are for unlimited mailboxes and for "inflated open rates". Its own limits article puts the "unlimited" mailboxes under a fair-use table and the "unlimited" contact storage at a default of 100,000, with $30 a month for each further 100,000. A comparison written by one of the two vendors grades its own homework; check each row on the other vendor's page.
Choose Reply.io if your job is
- Replacing manual prospecting with an AI SDR that drafts first touches you approve.
- Running email, LinkedIn and calls from one sequence for a team that sells on LinkedIn.
- Running long sequences from one seat, where unlimited follow-ups beat moving up an email tier.
Choose Instantly if your job is
- Sending a large volume of email your team already writes, across many mailboxes.
- Paying for AI by the action, a few credits per draft, instead of a monthly agent plan.
- Keeping the bill flat as headcount grows, since seats are not what it charges for.
The two entries cover each tool on its own: Reply.io and Instantly.
When the real question is a hire
If the decision behind this comparison is whether an AI SDR replaces the junior seller you were about to recruit, that is a question about how the team is built, not about software. Settling it is part of the work of an interim CMO; I sell that work, so weigh the suggestion accordingly.
FAQ
Does Reply.io charge again for follow-ups?
Not within the month. An active contact is a unique person who gets a first-step email, with unlimited follow-ups, per the pricing FAQ. The exception is a follow-up that falls into the next billing month, which counts that person again.
Can Instantly run LinkedIn steps?
No. Its pricing file lists no LinkedIn step. On Reply.io, LinkedIn is a $69 monthly add-on per account on Email Volume, and part of Multichannel.
Is Jason included in the Email Volume plan?
No. Jason is a separate plan, from $500 a month on annual billing or $800 monthly for 1,000 active contacts. Email Volume includes AI reply categorisation, an AI sequence builder and AI reply handling, according to the feature table in the pricing file.
